Spend Less When You Shop These Investment-Worthy Pieces!

imageIf you’re a shopaholic and your new year’s resolution is to start saving money then this article is for you. I’ve done a lot of posts on investment worthy pieces like trench coats, peacoats, and other basics. For the most part I follow my own advice, but I’ve had my share of stumbles too. I keep buying the same $20 jeans I only sorta kinda like to wear. So instead of spending $100 on 5 pairs of jeans I don’t really love, I should have gone for one pair that I love. It’s just not necessary for me to have a pair of jeans for every day of the week. I swear by the Real Straight jeans in the dark wash from Gap, and they’re less than $70 but fit like a $200 pair. I’m also guilty of buying drugstore tights that run after every use so I guess I could have just spent all that money on a pair of Wolfords. At first it may not seem like you’re saving money, but buying something once does save you time and money in the long run. And yes, sometimes having less is more! Take a look at my slideshow to see more investment-worthy pieces and also keep your other new year’s resolution of paring down your closet. (And don’t forget to donate the clothes you decide not to keep!)

The H&M Garden Collection Is Completely Adorable, All Sustainable, And Well Under $60!

imageGardens aren’t really my thing, but H&M’s soon-to-be released “Garden” collection is definitely something I can wrap my head around, and the result will be much prettier than the potted orchid currently wilting on my dining table. Typical floral prints and pastel hues just never looked so good! Floaty linen and cotton adds a seventies sensibility to the collection, which is crafted from organic and recyclable materials. It’s all so playfully romantic, from rosette-adorned tops to swingy chiffon dresses, with easy-fitting tees and light-wash boyfriend jeans added to the mix. The looks exemplify the essence and simplicity of spring, as breezy silhouettes like these need not much more than a pair of tan leather shoes and a tote to take you through your day. Perhaps best of all, the collection is priced to match my sad post-holiday bank account- the items top out at $60, with most falling in the $15 – $30 range. Check out the slideshow to see my picks!

Stay On Schedule In 2010 With These Unique Wall Calendars!

imageIn case you haven’t already snagged a 50% off 2010 “Cute ‘n Cuddly Puppies” or “Twilight” calendar (or even if you have — toss it!), I suggest starting off the new year on a design-savvy note and opting for a wall calendar that’s both unique and complementary to your home. After all, with all the electronic and PDA-powered personal calendars out there, regular ol’ wall hangers are really just for show nowadays… so you might as well choose one that makes a statement! If you’re looking for one that’s simple-chic (and can even take you through the years to come!), this perpetual calendar designed by Massimo Vignelli is clean yet still stylish. Or if you’re hoping for something a little quirkier, this 2010 Bubble Wrap calendar is a clever way to keep track of the passing days. Browse the slideshow for more unique wall calendars to add some 2010 flavor to your home!

Shoe Of The Week: Omelle Suede ‘Fiori’ Heel

imageOmelle is known for their fashion-forward yet completely on trend shoes (remember our Omelle giveaway?) These ‘Fiori’ heels are no exception! Sleek and sophisticated with their suede fabrication and smooth front, these heels add edge to basic outfits. Versatile enough with just the right amount of modern style, these heels are a must for any shoe lover. While Omelle shoes tend to lean a little towards the pricier end of the spectrum, their timelessness and wearability make them a smart fashion investment. Another reason to love them? They’re edgy without being studded, bedazzled, or zippered in any way. How refreshing is that?

Price: $373.00

Hot In The Hive: Luxeed Rainbow LED Keyboard

imageIf you have a tendency to spill coffee or soda on your computer keyboard (RIP to my first college laptop), then make sure you steer clear of this rainbow light-up version from Luxeed, because it’s much too pretty to ruin! USB-powered and illuminated by 430 LEDs, this keyboard can be customized to change color, flash in patterns, or light up at each press of an individual key. It comes in white, which has a flashier, more transparent look, and black, which is slightly more subtle yet just as stylish with its opaque keys and rainbow lettering. At $139.99-149.99, it’s quite a costly aesthetic investment if you’re not already in the market for a separate add-on keyboard, but I have to say I’m tempted regardless! Of course, first I’d have to kick the habit of drinking coffee while composing e-mails…

Price: $139.99 for black, $149.99 for white

The Must-Have Book For Any Fashion Buff – Louis Vuitton: Art, Fashion and Architecture

imageThe latest must-have item for any fashion fan is Louis Vuitton: Art, Fashion and Architecture, a 400 page artistic journey through the collaborations of this iconic luxury house. From designers and architects, to photographers and artists, Louis Vuitton can claim one of the richest and most varied associations within the world of art — and this book pays testament to them all. David LaChapelle, Annie Leibovitz, Takashi Murakami, Vanessa Beecroft and Richard Prince are just a few who have shined their light upon the living legend and unlike many books of this variety, Louis Vuitton: Art, Fashion and Architecture is not a culmination of advertisements previously tried, tested (and most likely, loved by us all) it is an in depth look at what big brands can do when they invest in talent. Critical essays accompany jaw-dropping artwork, so it’s up to you whether you choose to browse or bury yourself amongst its many pages. Produced by legendary publisher Rizzoli, Louis Vuitton: Art, Fashion and Architecture will not disappoint intellectuals or page turners alike. If Santa gave you gift vouchers, now’s the time to use them.

Get A Fresh-Faced Start To The Year And Banish Those Bad Beauty Habits!

imageIt’s always fun to get dolled up and put on your sexiest dress, spikiest heels and perfectly painted face for a fun night out with friends and many of us have been doing plenty of that with the recent holiday season just ending. But after a night of dancing, drinking and running all around town with your besties, we too often get home and fall directly into bed, forgoing the much needed shower, or at least washing-of-the-face. With all the products and tools that help enhance a woman’s natural beauty – hair styling pomades and sprays, hot curlers or heated ceramic straighteners, line-erasing concealers and powders, cream shadows and glowing blushes – we sometimes forget that they also clog pores or dry out hair if we don’t cleanse and hydrate! So while turning in for the night without a cleansing ritual is a Beauty 101 no-no, it happens to the best of us, but don’t let it become a habit. Scared that it might already happen a little more than it should? No worries! Check out the slideshow for beauty products that will protect your skin and leave you refreshed and ready to take on the year!
