Make A Statement With Architectural Heels

imageMove over, “it” bag. For the past couple of seasons, it’s been about the “it” shoes– who could forget the crazy caged booties at YSL, or the futuristic lucite heels at Gianfranco Ferre? All over the Spring/Summer ’09 runways it was the outrageous heels that stole the show. Shoes with unique and artistic shaped heels are a great way to try out a more fashion-forward look. While you may not be ready to rock the futuristic, exaggerated shoulders of the Balenciaga and Balmain collections, you can absolutely try an out there shoe. Look for platforms, block heels, cone heels, and beyond- there was no stopping the designers’ creativity this season! Update your wedge look with a cut-out like the “Ashley” wedge from Kors by Michael Kors. For a platform look, try a circular heel instead of a traditional stacked heel, like Pour La Victoire’s “Felicia” sandal. And don’t think this look only works with large clunky shoes. Ladylike shoes get the “look at me” treatment too! Metallic heels are perfect for evening, like Oscar de la Renta’s cut away cone heels and Proenza Schouler’s silver cut-out heel sandals. Next time you’re putting together an outfit, start with a statement shoe and build from there. Check out the slideshow for some shoe inspiration.

Karmaloop Welcomes Melody Ehsani’s Fresh New Shoes!

One of my favorite designers, Melody Ehsani, has just dropped her latest shoe collection, now available at Karmaloop.com. The LA based designer has a knack for designing and creating eye-catching footwear. Web-exclusive to her own site and Karmaloop.com, Ehsani’s collection offers a fantastic line of shoes, featuring bold, flashy pieces that have caught the attention of many celebrities. Ehsani has just recently collaborated with fellow designer Richie Rich on a new collection, and has also partnered up with singer Keri Hilson, producing her merchandise for her tour with Lil Wayne. The designer has a strong belief in her inner power as woman, which has allowed her to challenge the status quo and conventional norms. Through her line, she pushes other daring women to overcome barriers and shed any weight of uncertainty about themselves. The Melody Ehsani customer believes in self-expression, independence, and women loving fashion for themselves because of the way it makes them feel. The collection yields nothing short of quality high-fashion products that are stunning, comfortable and affordable. Peep the ‘Love Stinks’ heel and the ‘Javier’ heel and join Ehsani in her fight to upset the equilibrium!

Bring Out Your Wild Side With Help From Stylehive’s Stylescopes!

In preparation for spring, we were all about the festive egg-dye pastels and quintessential floral prints, but now that the Easter bunny has come and gone, we at Stylehive are looking for fashion inspiration from some much more stylish critters. Animal print may scare off some traditionally demure girls who have always written off zebra, leopard, giraffe, and boa as patterns suited only for the tacky and fashionably loud and best left on the African Savannah, but the celestial spirits are here to prove that wild prints can be both sophisticated and sexy! For example, Virgos can look forward to brightening things up in an eye-popping orange leopard tank, while Aries girls will keep it subtle and classy in a printed party dress! Whether you’re destined to sport stripes, spots, or scales, you’re bound to look hot while walking on the wild side this week! Check out the slideshow to see what kind of animal print best suits your sign!

Lacoste Gives Us A Lesson In Crocodile Mythology

I remember my very first Lacoste experience. I wore one of their polos to my first day of kindergarten (yes, I was way ahead of my time). I was so proud of the shirt that I went up to my teacher and said with boyish excitement, “Look! I have a crocodile on my shirt!” Fast forward to today and I still get excited when I don one of their polos. I go up to total strangers on the street and say with boyish excitement, “Look! I have a crocodile on my shirt!” In any matter, the crocodile has become synonymous with the savvy sportswear brand since Rene Lacoste started it over 75 years ago. To celebrate Lacoste’s chic crocodile, they have created a collection of shoes that cleverly incorporates mythologies associated with crocodiles all around the world. The Ogata India is inspired by Hindu temple motifs and tells the ancient myth of the Hindu philosopher Shankara and his relationship with the Mugger Crocodile. The Tennis Polynesia uses rich brown tones of the New Guinea Crocodile and wood carvings of the Nuga, a half man half crocodile that is associated with the creation of the world. The urban legend of monstrous crocodiles in the sewers of New York City are showcased in the street-chic Revan 3 NYC, and the Rene Lacoste Japan (my personal favorite) tells the story of a blind men who was left to drown by his cruel sons via a gorgeous crocodile skin print upper inspired from traditional Japanese silk kimono. The other styles in the limited collection are created from crocodile mythologies from South Africa, Egypt, West Africa and Brazil. See some pics of the collection in the slideshow, then read more about these crocodile myths at www.lacostecrocmyths.com.

Our Favorite Chunky Heels For Spring

Forget diamonds, shoes are definitely a girl’s best friend. But sometimes shoes can suddenly become a frenemy, especially those darned stilettos. My feet have had enough of those spindly heels getting caught in sidewalk cracks or making my feet hurt after a few hours of wearing them. So I’ve dug up some of my favorite shoes from last fall, the chunky heel. If the stiletto is the popular girl, then the chunky heel is the indie princess. This shoe definitely has that ’70s vibe but none of the feathered hair! While you may only think of heavy pumps when it comes to big heels, there are a ton of options for spring and summer. Take a look at the chunky platform banded sandals from Banana Republic or the cutest peep-toe shoes from Victoria’s Secret. These shoes can make your outfit look bottom heavy so it’s best to wear them with your fluttery spring dresses and skirts. Take a look at the slideshow for some of my favorite chunky heeled shoes!

Get That Mary-Kate Tough-Chic Look With LD Tuttle Shoes

Like funky footwear? Then its time to discover LD Tuttle shoes. Tastemakers like Natalia Vodianova and Mary-Kate Olsen have already been seen sporting the avant-garde shoes all over town. Designed by Tiffany Tuttle out of her Los Angeles studio, the line has been a fashion favorite for a few seasons now, and Tuttle’s designed shoes for RVCA by Erin Wasson and VPL by Victoria Bartlett. The Ivy League-schooled designer decided to pursue fashion and went back to school for a graduate degree from FIT. Working for Givenchy in Paris and then for Rebecca Taylor, she realized her love of shoes and jetted off to Milan to learn the craft. As a former ballet dancer, she understands and has studied the shape of the leg and arch of the foot that helps her create the most flattering shoe possible. Now she turns out shoes that have a raw yet refined tough girl edge. The spring collection will meld perfectly with the season’s tough-chic fashions, or punk up even the most prim of dresses. I’m just dying to get my hands on the ‘spectre’ open toe boot. Check out the slideshow to see which LD Tuttle shoes are your favorites!

Dress Yourself Up In Stylish Sneakers!

As we enter the spring and summer seasons, more and more men are storing their boots and looking for something that is more comfortable. Enter the fail-safe sneaker. I am not talking about workout sneakers; I am talking about bonafide luxe sneakers that can go well with a pair of khaki shorts just as they do with a soft-shouldered jacket. The trick when picking a pair of fashion kicks is to make them as simple as possible. They should be plain with a little bit of zest. Gucci and Prada always have sneakers that can be dressed up or down, but if you€™re looking for something with a little bit more edge, opt for a pair of Marc Jacobs silver shoes or some patent leather low-tops by Yohji Yamamoto. Here are some sneakers for spring and summer for you to chew on (not literally).

Relive The Good Old Days With Some Updated Keds Sneakers!

As a nostalgic ’80s and ’90s baby, I’ve always looked back at wearing

Mixing Hip And Retro With Stud Embellished Staples!

Lately, I’ve been noticing a particular trend going around today: studs. Whether they are on bags, shoes, apparel or accessories, studs are a timeless accent that can be worn on virtually anything. Studs are chic, retro and bad-ass. Even if you’re not into the whole punk rock scene, you can be reassured that studs have become a very popular staple in the fashion world. Following this trend, I have found some of my favorite studded products on Karmaloop.com. Perfect on shoes, studs add that extra detail that make your feet look hip and fly. Keep it simple and dainty with The Hayley Stud Flat in Pewter by Jeffrey Campbell, a buttery leather ballet flat with studded bow detail on toe. For a chic, feminine look, try The Iman Shoe in Gray Suede by Shoes for Lovely People, a suede studded strappy sandal. If you’re going for a sexier style, check out The Mel Shoe by Jeffrey Campbell, a strappy leather platform heel with silver metal stud details on criss-cross straps. If you want to expand your stud collection, adorn yourself with all the studs you can imagine! Check out the slideshow for more of my top studded finds!
