James Perse and Repetto are both at the top of their respective games, so a collaboration between the two basically has to result in something wonderful. It’s kind of like when Brad and Angelina have babies, if you think about it. Anyway, these James Perse x Repetto ballet flats represent exactly what we love about each brand: the minimalist, California-chic sensibility of James Perse and the classic, legendary style of Repetto. The canvas ballet slippers are available in three neutral tones that will suit any spring ensemble, including a breezy denim color that was made to be worn with tanned legs and floaty dresses. True to Repetto’s roots, they’re handmade in France, and are available exclusively at JamesPerse.com and select JP boutiques. Price: $250 |
The last time I even thought about clogs, I was 8 years old and only thought they were cool because they were Dutch and made clacking sounds when I walked, meaning they sounded like the high heels I wasn’t yet allowed to wear (which obviously made them even cooler). Fast forward to now, where Chanel‘s reinterpretation of the classic shoe has catapulted it into chic must-have territory thanks to pearly white leather, round studs, and of course, a platform heel. But seeing as a four-figure price tag is too much for what is really a case of sartorial nostalgia exacerbated by a chronic addiction to platforms, I set out to find a suitable doppelganger. Jeffrey Campbell’s “Charli” clogs ($178) are pretty close and even feature a convertible buckle strap so you can wear them as slingbacks. I can see them paired with floaty lace dresses and light wash denim jackets… how would you wear them? Photos: PR Photos, Free People |
For his fifth collection of menswear, rising fashion designer Richard Chai paired his deconstructed classic looks with Timberland‘s similarly futuristic take on traditional boots earlier today in a runway presentation.
The move comes a few seasons into Timberland’s bid for a corner of the fashion market with the “Boot Company” line touting their heritage, using higher-end materials and construction techniques, and recently collaborating with Opening Ceremony on a collection.
Chai, a former Marc Jacobs design director and 2008 CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund award finalist, chose Timberland’s Wodehouse Cap Toe Oxford and Tackhead Winter 8” Boot as well as the Colrain Reissue 8” Boot, mixing high and low cuts to match the layered ensembles.

Christian Louboutin’s mesh “Madame” tall boots make me think twice about how much I really need a pair of Louboutins in my closet, which, to be honest, never happens. The shape of the shaft and the height of the heel are more than ok, but the see through material renders them a little cheap — like they’re really made for “Madames” prowling the streets, if you will. And they’re mesh and see through. How functional of a pair of boots can they be if they don’t offer any kind of coverage? Plus, with such a hefty price tag, one has to wonder, what exactly are they made of? At over $1300 per pair, I’m expecting to see “unicorn” or “phoenix” listed on the label under materials. I could be totally wrong though, and perhaps with the right outfit and accessories, these boots have some serious style potential. What do you think? Take the poll and let us know if they’re super hot, or sooo not. And if you do love them, please let us know how you’d wear them in the comments section below! |
Despite seeing them everywhere you step (on the street and on the likes of Taylor Swift and Emma Watson, just to call out a couple), you may still not be convinced that the whole menswear-inspired shoe trend is really suited for your girlie-girl style. Even when paired with patterned tights or a floral dress, sometimes loafers and oxfords still simply exude a “butler” or “businessman” vibe, no matter what department they’re populating nowadays. However, I’m thoroughly convinced that these Tod’s flats will have you seeing them in a whole new light. This particular pair is not blatantly menswear in appearance — the signature laces have been transformed into an ultra-feminine bow detail and the wingtip pattern is replaced with a contrasting trim that echoes inspiration taken from their masculine counterpart instead of replicating it. And with your perfectly pedicured toes peeking from the peeptoe, there will be no mistaking your shoes for boyish brogues. Now if only we could find a similar pair that a girlie-girl on a budget can appreciate! What: Tod’s Olli Ti Lacceto Flats |
Whenever I see a pair of Christian Louboutin shoes, I get a little short of breath. When I saw his latest creation, the Bianca Slingback Platform Pumps, I nearly fell off my chair. These multi-color, patent-leather heels are beyond words. They are glossy perfection. I wouldn’t expect anything less from a red-soled shoe; this pair is a necessity for any closet. Whether you don these heavenly creations on vacation in St. Barths or add a little color to an all-black ensemble at home, you will definitely get your money’s worth in wear time. And when the weather gets warmer, these shoes will also be perfect for spring into summer. Wherever you go, no matter what outfit you wear, the compliments will follow in these platforms’ steps! I’m still trying to decide if I think these Priscilla Sandals are super chic or straight-up scary. Let’s just say I’m really intrigued. But whether you love them or hate them, either way they made you do a double-take, right? They look like a fascinating breed of part peacock, part snake, part zebra (ZOMG striped platform!), a little Rihanna, something gold and purple… and some triceratops perhaps? Okay, I’m probably way off, but whatever the origin, the result is some no-joke fierceness. So if you decide that these are, in fact, a pair of platform heels you’d love to be caught dead wearing, make sure you’re prepared to do some serious strutting. Omelle is known for their fashion-forward yet completely on trend shoes (remember our Omelle giveaway?) These ‘Fiori’ heels are no exception! Sleek and sophisticated with their suede fabrication and smooth front, these heels add edge to basic outfits. Versatile enough with just the right amount of modern style, these heels are a must for any shoe lover. While Omelle shoes tend to lean a little towards the pricier end of the spectrum, their timelessness and wearability make them a smart fashion investment. Another reason to love them? They’re edgy without being studded, bedazzled, or zippered in any way. How refreshing is that? Price: $373.00 |
