Shoe of the Week: Shoes For Lovely People Vanity Heels

imageSummer is almost upon us and that means we can kick off our somber black boots and reach for something a little more light and effervescent. Since the weather is warming up, show off your pedicure with a heeled sandal like the Vanity Heels by Shoes For Lovely People. The white leather is perfect for those sunny days ahead and the woven gold details provide a little bling without having to resort to studs or grommets. The overall design of the shoe is reminiscent of the gladiator sandal The 4.25 inch wooden heel is enough to dress up any outfit but still walk in relative comfort. I would wear them with a rolled up pair of boyfriend jeans for one of those effortless “oh, I just thew this outfit on” look. For an evening date, dress it up with a flirty dress. Best part is, at $115 it won’t totally break your budget!

Rokin Footwear

by Miriam Brafman

Modern soles with a vintage aesthetic help Rokin Footwear successfully blend traditional European craftsmanship with urban appeal for a stylishly simple and wholly versatile shoe.

Christoffer Brattin—the man behind the Gothenburg, Sweden-based company—launched the first collection of men’s shoes in the fall of 2007. “I started Rokin because I thought there was a need for quality shoes at a nice price for the young urban man. I wanted to do a broad collection of both sports, casual and dressy shoes” says Brattin, a former Tommy Hilfiger Europe footwear designer.

Choosing to work only with suppliers steeped in history, Rokin prides itself on delivering high-quality shoes made from natural materials. Design attributes such as the odor-preventing breathable foot beds bring function to sustainability.

The utilitarian and timeless air of each style is evident in the current Spring/Summer 2010 collection—an assortment of 66 designs spanning pink suede derby loafers to lace-up leather boots as well as sandals to sneakers.

Recession Chic: Sexy Flat Sandals For $100 Or Less!

imageMy favorite outfit combination is definitely a dress and strappy sandals. It’s feminine, breezy and perfect for the Spring and Summer seasons. While strappy sandals with stilettos or a high wedge attached is super cute and sexy, we do not live within the pages of Vogue (although that would be awesome), and real life sometimes calls for shoes that aren’t as tall as a first-grader. But just because your day of errands mandates that flat soles be a must, it doesn’t mean you need to give up sex appeal. A flat pair of sandals are easily given a more sensual vibe with the addition of anything from jewels to ankle straps, and investing in a cute and versatile pair means that you can wear it with one ensemble after another. Sexy, flat sandals can look fancy and expensive, but actually comes in a variety of affordable styles. So say goodbye to plain old boring flip-flops and click on the slideshow to see some of my favorite sexy flat sandals for $100 or less!

Goody Blue Shoes

Spring has officially sprung here in NYC, with blue skies on our mind and blue shoes on our feet. With shorts season just around the bend, now is a great time to find a pair of kicks that perfectly compliment your bright personality, as well as the warm weather. There’s always the go-to classics like Vans and Keds, but here are some shoes that excel both in design and style.

blue-emerica.jpg blue-nike.jpg

A step up from average classic skate shoes, these Emerica Reynolds Cruisers manage to maintain an ultra-slim, low profile silhouette without sacrificing skateboard performance and padding. A perfect shade of blue kitted out with gold eyelits makes for a killer combination. Although these are from a past season, they’re still available from Active for $60.

An appealing blue-on-blue-on-blue color scheme, these Nikes tend to look as great on the ladies (including a CH editor who wears them constantly) as they do on men. The Quickstrike release might be hard to track down, but we found a pair here for around $90.

blue-apc.jpg

Blue suede boots by A.P.C., need we say more? The ultimate blue suede shoes, these desert boots look as beautiful as they wear comfortably (and are another pair we own and love). The hue perfectly suits the material—bright enough to stand out but rich enough to maintain a subtle elegance. Grab them online here or from your local APC store for $330.

blue-converse.jpg

While blue Chuck Taylors are a Converse classic, these kick it up a notch with their preppy skate shoes. The boat style of the Sea Star ($55) thoroughly embodies the spirit of the season while the simpler CVO ($50) promotes fresh vibes all year round.

Shoe of the Week: 1971 Reiss Lolita Multirope Wedge

imageGiven the choice between a super sexy pair of stiletto heels or a wedge heel, I’d choose the wedge. Not only do wedges look a little more casual and can go with most of my wardrobe, they’re also more comfortable. Given that the wedge heel gives your feet more of a surface area to rest on rather than on a spindly spike heel, that means you can wear them throughout the day without changing into flats. Believe me, I was able to do it during the long days at New York Fashion Week! Since we’re heading into the gorgeous spring weather, it’s time to update your shoes for the occasion. I love the 1971 Reiss Lolita Multirope Wedge for the rope strap details that touches on a nautical look that comes back every summer. The pinkish cream leather is easy to coordinate with the rest of your wardrobe and the 4 inch wedge heel is enough to have you stand comfortably tall.

Recession Chic: Practical Spring Flats Under $100!

imageOn the perfect lazy spring day, when the last thing you want to do is be teeter around in heels all afternoon, the easy route would be to reach for a pair of flip-flops in your stash of sandals. But sometimes your trusty Havaianas don’t exactly suit the situation when you want something a little dressier than, say, rubber… yet the whole point is that you were trying to avoid the endless “which-pair-is-perfect-with-this-particular-outfit” debate and just slip something on and go already! Luckily, it can be that easy with the perfect pair of practical spring flats! The idea is to choose a pair that can go with nearly everything, while still staying on-trend with the season, making it look like you actually meticulously paired them with each item of your outfit (only we need to know that they’re your new no-brainer go-to pair for just about anything!). But practical doesn’t have to mean boring, and it doesn’t have to mean pricey either! With updated classics like slingback oxfords, or practical yet edgy hardware like studs in place of polka dots, your flats can be foolproof, versatile and stylish… all for under $100! Check the slideshow for my favorite go-with-almost-everything flats!

Evo

evo-barefoot1.jpg

A pared down approach to running, the ultra-lightweight Evo performance shoe allows the foot to fully flex, freeing it from superfluous padding while still offering strong support. Part of Terra Plana’s VivoBarefoot collection, the brand based the design on the biomechanical benefits of running barefoot—a method believed to strengthen the foot and ankle muscles while realigning the body’s natural posture.

We recently put the Evos to the test, tasking a runner with wearing them while training for NYC’s half marathon. While she reports that the initial barefoot feeling seemed slightly strange, overall she found the shoes extremely comfortable, even helping to alleviate an old foot injury.

evo-barefoot2.jpg evo-barefoot3.jpg

Without the interference of a thick sole, the foot’s 2,000 nerve endings stimulate senses all over the body from the tonsils to the kidneys, making for a healthier and more complete workout. The structure compels the foot to land on the ball or mid-range area instead of the heel, not only reducing the impact on the foot (and potential injuries) but also allowing the runner to use energy stored in the Achilles tendon and longitudinal arch.

A collaboration between Terra Plana owner Galahad Clark and head designer Asher Clark (seventh-generation shoemakers of the renowned Clark’s family), Evo sells online or from Terra Plana stores around the world for $160.
