More On The Curves

Is there something more comforting about holding a phone in your hand that feels and looks curvy? Perhaps yes, and this is why phones like the VEGA, inspired by the design and innovation “brionvega”, demand so much attention. According to the designer, the display is curved for a better grip and use and the black and white OS is super cool. The color function is active only for the video – photo modes and the phone is crafted from polycarbonate.

This Corkscrew Sucks!

Literally. It’s called “My Corkscrew Sucks” and it does… in the best way! Lots of people love to collect their old wine corks for keepsake, but regular wine corks damage the cork in the process of opening. This design uses suction to pull out the cork, ensuring that it’s left perfectly in tact. It’s just as quick to use, safer, and takes less muscle!

The Safety Dance

The Safety Ski Pole is one handy device that you will want, if you are an accident-prone skier. The ski pole is integrated with a GPS tracker that can be used in case of an emergency. Moreover the pole also beams out an SOS signal so that it can reflect on the snow slopes and attract attention. Anything to help distressed and lost skiers I tell ya!

Crazy About Cork

Cork isn’t just the stuff of wine bottles, it’s also a unique & healthy method of farming & material sourcing… not to mention- infinitely recyclable, naturally waterproof, buoyant, & fire resistant. The Rolha (Portuguese for the stopper used in wine bottles) table taps into the unique nature of the material, & consists of just 3 legs & a solid, turned cork top. Each leg is fitted with a screw similar to a wine key, so the user simply has to twist each one into place!

Contribute your pee to compost! (Seriously)

L’uritonnoir is, quite simply, a hybrid of two everyday products: the urinal & the funnel (literally in French, “urinnoir” and “entonnoir”). It was designed primarily for use in public spaces like music festivals or carnivals where units can be placed on round bales of straw. The device funnels urine into the bale which is then removed & converted to compost after 6-8 months due to the chemical reaction of carbon (straw) & nitrogen (urine). Not for the pee-shy, but still cleaner & greener than a porta-potty!

Aqua Benz

The Mercedes Benz Dolphin takes design cues from the naturally streamlined shape of the aquatic animal, applying lightweight material to its aerodynamic form for maximum efficiency. Powered by a dual-stators maglev DC machine, the lighter and cleaner engine was a natural choice to compliment its focus on environmental friendliness and efficiency. It’s a Flipper-inspired family car of the future!

The USB Drive

Sometimes innovation is about coming up with new ways to do the same old chore. For example, if you need to access files from your portable Hard Drive and transfer them to a USB key, then you need to route it through the Laptop or PC. Without PC is a device that eliminates this step; it features a touchscreen that facilitates easy transfer of files from the Hard Drive to the USB.

Without PC is a 2013 iF design award – concept design entry.

The Island Kitchen Is Finally Here

Space crunch + kitchen has always equalled to a compromised kitchen. Realistically speaking, designer Massimo Facchinetti has nailed it with his Ecooking vertical kitchen. This single module kitchen is a hub for sustainable cooking. The technologies of the project highlight energy-saving systems, and come integrated with an internal retrieval of energy system. This is achieved thanks to the close proximity and interaction of appliances with each other and the exchange of heat and moisture.

  • The electrical elements of the kitchen are powered by the energy produced by solar panels.
  • On one side of the kitchen module there is placed a small vertical garden, which allows the cultivation of aromatic plants for daily use.
  • The water coming from the sink is filtered and reused in the dishwasher; then undergoes a second filtering process and is used to water the plants in the vertical greenhouse.
  • A retractable tap that disappears into the sink.
  • Large refrigerator, an integrated cooking system (induction hob and microwave), systems for rinsing and washing (sink and dishwasher with adequate capacity).
  • The rotating hood contains a light that follows you while operating around the column and softens in different shades at lunchtime and when using the extractable tables.
  • In the hood the air treatment system, based on nanomaterials of titanium dioxide, it purifies the ambient air and is capable of purifying a medium sized room in a few hours.

Seating to Oink About

Inspired by Meret Oppenheim’s bird-legged Traccia table, this dual-footed stool applies the functional stability and aesthetic peculiarity of one of our favorite barnyard animal’s feet: the pig! To balance on just two legs, each of the Pig on the Wings stool’s supports loosely mimic the 4 “toes” of a pig hoof. From the barn to the modern loft, this conversation starter is an interesting addition to any space, country or modern. Get it here!

Undetectable Table

The Bordus coffee table takes surprising inspiration from the lines and angles of Stealth Fighters, applying these geometries to form a striking sculptural piece. The polarizing design may appear complex at first glance but is quite simple in form and construction! Nest-able side by side, unique combinations can be created by repeating tables to fit a variety of different sized and shaped spaces.
