Hot In The Hive: This Works Lip and Eye Holiday Crackers!

imageIt’s always easy to buy beauty products for the girls, but giving them a tiny wrapped box or bag that houses a lone lipgloss or eye-shadow palette seems anti-climatic and not all that fun. That’s why This Works is introducing the limited time only Holiday Cracker. It’s an eye serum or lip product housed inside a pretty package that resembles a holiday or New Year’s cracker. Available in the season appropriate gold, silver or red, each cracker contains either a soothing eye gel to help you look your best for all the holiday gatherings, or a smoothing and nourishing lip balm that makes standing under the mistletoe the perfect place to be. Buy a few to give to friends, or use it as the perfect “Secret Santa” present. Are you the hostess with the most-est? This is a fun and festive party favor to hand out! These Holiday Crackers are perfect for so many things and at only $10 a pop, you don’t have to break the bank to spread a little holiday cheer!

Be Our Guest: 10 Chic And Charming Hostess Gifts Under $50!

imageI don’t know if it’s true for every culture in the world, but I know in most Asian cultures it’s incredibly rude to show up at a friend or family member’s house completely empty handed. Maybe that’s why I have enough oranges to fill a grove on my kitchen table so I’m prepared to give out to any homes I go to (it’s a Chinese thing). Anyway, I’m sure some of my friends hosting holiday parties this year will be confused if I bring a sack of oranges, so I’ve been on the hunt for affordable hostess gifts. For the tea lover, a set of English teas in a hand-carved box is a thoughtful gift. If your host is a budding cupcake maker, give them this cupcake making kit which includes recipes, baking liners, a pastry bag and piping tips. Take a look at my slideshow to see more hostess gifts she’ll appreciate and love!

10 Eco-Chic Gifts For Fashionably Green Gals!

imageI’m all about saving the world one recycle bin at a time, but some people take being green to a whole new level. For example, one of my college roommates used to literally holler at our guests if they so much as took one step toward the trash can with an empty plastic water bottle in hand. Strange experiences aside, I guess it is the ultra-passionate “world warriors” who make the biggest difference, which is why I’m proposing the idea of making this year a green Christmas! You don’t need to make presents by hand to be kind to Mother Earth. For example, Sephora has loads of eco-friendly beauty sets, and Dogeared has its own line of recycled jewelry and totes so the eco-chicas on your list can continue spreading the world-saving word! Give The Gift Of Gorgeousness With My 10 Favorite Beauty Sets!

imageAs any beauty addict knows, brand name makeup doesn’t come especially cheap. When restocking on your favorite MAC lipglass or Urban Decay eyeshadow primer, the price you pay per item doesn’t necessarily burn a hole in your wallet (after all, you can’t skimp on essentials!), but when it comes to gifting, makeup items can easily run you over budget even after just a couple of pots of eyeshadow. This is exactly why I gotta give praise to one of my favorite retail-related inventions ever: value sets! Themed for the holidays or just packaged as an always-festive good deal, gift sets from our favorite department store brands combine brand favorites into one beauty bundle and help you save big bucks (to spend on more makeup, of course!). If you have someone on your list who can’t get enough lip gloss, how about something from Shu Uemura’s Holiday Collection by Tsumori Chisato? Or if you know a gal who loves everything Lancome, consider their all-inclusive Holiday Beauty Box! Take a look at more of my favorite value gift sets in the slideshow!

Coquette Reveals A Lighted Wedding Dress!

imageMy friend Alison of Switch made this lighted wedding dress for her friend Julia’s beachy wedding in Hawaii. I love how this feels like a true wedding dress of the future. After all, we are just weeks away from 2010, no? Alison writes: “It was decided that the dress should honor the metallic look but with a vintage inspired style. To do this, I focused on creating a soft and glowing design that played with the Victorian shape of the dress. The lighting design was intended to be simple with warm and cool whites.” She even made a Luminex shawl for Julia to wear for the beach bonfire! Stylehive Editors’ Holiday Wishlists: xgalexy

imageWhen it comes to composing the ultimate wishlist, my motto is: give me everything I want and nothing I need! I mean, I have no problem shopping for fashion necessities, so this is my opportunity to dream big. Of course, I realize Santa isn’t rollin’ in dough (or is he?) and I don’t think the elves know how to assemble my favorite CoIe Haan handbag, so I tried to keep a balance of sensible and fantastical. I’ve got something for both my gamer and my girlie sides, and everything from the perfect party dress to a practical trench coat (with a not-so-practical price tag). View the slideshow for my 10 picks, including one particular “surprise” that I guess I’ll have to wait until February to unwrap (*wink, wink*)… and don’t forget to check back this week for more editor wishlists!

Hot In The Hive: Space Invaders Gift Wrap

imageYou might think it’s what’s inside the wrapping paper that counts (and the thought behind it, of course), but when it comes to making the distinction between one seriously awesome gift and the other seriously awesome gift right beside it under the tree, presentation is crucial! This Space Invaders Gift Wrap may be called “Dude Wrap” (maybe in an attempt to motivate your boyfriend to help you wrap presents, and not in newspaper), but I think it’s totally geeky-chic! Even if you have two left hands when it comes to wrapping presents, the gamer-themed paper is cool enough to make even the most wrapping-challenged gifters want to whip out the tape and scissors and toss out the gift bags and tissue paper! Of course, you might want to practice with something cheap first, because at $4.50 a sheet you’ll want to make sure the pixelated print doesn’t go to waste!

Price: $4.50

10 Nifty Gifts For The Gamer Girl (Or Guy!)

imageI may have my girlie-girl tendencies, but the truth is, I’m a no-mercy kinda gal when it comes to gaming. I can play Rock Band with the rest of ’em and I’ll beat your boyfriend’s high score three times over! Video game gifts, as long as the recipient isn’t totally opposed to gaming (if you know someone that is, they’ve clearly never played Mario Party), are the perfect present: you don’t need to know anyone’s size, and it won’t end up in a reject pile of tacky Christmas sweaters. Plus, getting to unwrap an actual toy totally brings back warm memories of being a kid on Christmas day, annihilating all shreds of gift wrap in your path to get to the goods. Help the person on your list banish boredom with their own Nintendo DSi console, or if the person in mind already has every system and game known to man, help them accessorize with a new case! Skim through the slideshow to see my favorite video game gifts this year!

Lingerie Gifts Any Gal Can Enjoy, Whether She’s Naughty Or Nice!

imageYou may have watched this month’s Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show with an ice cream spoon in your hand and an envious glare on your face, but if truth be told, it doesn’t require a Marisa Miller body to enjoy sexy lingerie. So why not consider gifting some super-cute skivvies to the ladies on your list this year? Since we spend so much time covered up (after all, there are too many cute trends this season that require actual clothing), undies are often overlooked when it comes to gift-giving… but if you ask me, they’re totally underrated in the realm of presents! Beyond the hassle of guesstimating sizes, you really can’t go wrong with cute undies, a matching two-piece set, or even a slinky cami — it’s like gifting instant confidence and granting the recipient freedom from those hellish lines at VS. Whether you’re looking for a luxe lingerie set or just a cheeky stocking stuffer, lingerie gifts are they way to go for the ladies you’re close to… just maybe not your boss, unless you’re trying to be awkward. Check the slideshow for the full sultry selection — both naughty and nice!

Have The Best Dressed Tree With Our Top 10 Christmas Ornaments

imageThere are many people I know who decorate with a holiday theme immediately after Thanksgiving dinner and then there are people who don’t start until the last minute (aka the day before Christmas Eve). Either way, the tree is almost always the most important aspect of any Christmas decor. While some may argue the virtues over real versus faux trees, what good is it if it ends up totally naked? That’s why I’m here with ornaments of all shapes and sizes that will get your tree totally covered up. From collectible limited edition Swarovski crystals to the cutest cow ornament ever, there’s a whole world of ornaments out there. Add some DIY cranberry and popcorn garlands, tinsel, maybe some fake snow and you’re all set to wait for Santa to deliver his presents. Take a peek at my slideshow to see them all!
