Tasty Tastings

A wholesome, flavorsome meal is what cooking is all about. You know you want to serve the perfect dish for family and friends, but sometimes the right flavoring can get the better of you. To make sure that you always dish out the perfect meal, Tastee helps you by doing the tasting for you. Shaped like a spoon, the device is laced with receptors based on the human taste bud. This means it is adept at telling you if you got the flavors right, or if you need to add a pinch of salt and a dash of vinegar!

Tastee is a 2012 Electrolux Design Lab top ten finalist entry.

Tree + Eat = Treat

Treat is a seamless way of storing and managing the leftover food. It employs classic food storage techniques like vacuum sealing and modern remote mobile technology to ensure your food is always consumed fresh. The appliance has a clever and intuitive way of communicating its warning when the food is expiring. It changes its color as the food ages (like the ripening of a fruit!) and then drops down to the carpet below. This happens when the food stored is a lost cause and is completely expired. Access to the Treat with a mobile app is possible. It allows you to preheat your meal with remote settings. Very clever!

The Treat is a 2012 Electrolux Design Lab top ten finalist entry.

Making Kitchens Less Ugly

There are an overwhelming variety of range hood and air ventilation options out there, but almost none are aesthetically pleasing or discreet! The Hidden Air Diffuser was designed for application into most types of ceilings to provide an unobtrusive, near-invisible way of circulating air and ridding smoke. Available options include minimal recessed light combinations or flush decorative vents and all can be painted to blend into any room style for a more open, cleaner look.

Experimental Cooking With Molecules

As an avid MasterChef fan, the appliances that the participants get to use, stump me. Imagine dabbling with molecular cooking and cooking meats in a water-bath. The Mo’Sphere hopes to recreate those magical moments in a regular kitchen. With bringing molecular cooking techniques to everyday homes, the possibility of experimenting with flavors and textures become limitless.

Until now this kind of cooking was restricted to celebrity chefs and Five Star restaurants. Basically molecular cooking appliance makes use of physical and chemical reactions during cooking. Imagine using flash freezing, foams, frosts, gelés and even cotton candy on an everyday basis. Mo’Sphere makes all of this possible.

Mo’Sphere is a 2012 Electrolux Design Lab top ten finalist entry.

Kitchen Tweezers

The Kitchen Tweezers (obvious inspiration) are a modern reinterpretation of kitchen tongs that solve the main problem with the former design’s lack of spring, making them much more efficient and easy to use (not to mention way better looking!). The minimal, seamless design can be cut from a variety of materials that have tensile strength. I’m digging the raw solid wood and carbon styles!

The Tor of Pizza

It takes to be on the other side of the fence to understand the importance of piping hot food. I work from home so I never have to face the challenge of eating a rubbery pizza just because it went cold during lunch delivery. Maybe this is why the Tower Food Warmer focuses on meals like pizza along with healthy options like salad for keeping warm and fresh. The design takes into consideration a clever locking system so that the food compartments don’t open hastily and thus create a mess.

Flower Power

Bloom isn’t at all what you might expect a kitchen appliance to look like, but don’t be deceived by its soft, floral aesthetic. The multifunctional design chops, heats & even cleans up after itself! The “petals” are made of strong, heat resistant, non-stick material that spin to stir or chop food that’s being heated by the base. When the cooking’s finished, just activate the steam cleaning nozzle located in the center of the flower to remove stubborn stuck-on food particles!

Handsfree Cooking!

The Easystir is an automatic stirrer that allows you to pursue other work while it diligently looks after your dish. Foods like soups, broths and curries require constant stirring and I know for a fact that with some Indian cooking you need to keep on stirring for hours; yes HOURS! The stirring speed is adjustable, it is dishwasher safe and it doesn’t require recharging, battery replacements or plugging at all. It simply uses magnets that react to your induction stove!

Electrolux Easystir is a 2012 Electrolux Design Lab Top Ten finalist entry.
