Jointed Jewels byAmt
Posted in: UncategorizedOne of the nice things about my visit to the NYIGF was meeting dutch designer Alissia Melka-Teichroew in real for the first time … she and I have been emailing very often during the last couple of years, but meeting her in person adds so much to my love for all her designs.
At the gift fair Alissia showed her latest jewelry collection: Jointed Jewel 'Amalia' Collection
When I saw Alissia wearing one of her very new necklaces I almost ripped it of her shirt :)) .. I think she got the message and was super kind to give it to me as a present at the end of the show … and I must say whenever I am wearing it I am getting so many compliments … it is pretty big and so a real eye-catcher you can say and so completely different from all other jewelry! I believe the particular necklace I have is not available for sale yet … it is the Quilt Maple Pendant and will soon be available through her website. But at Jointed Jewels you can buy any of her other amazing jewelry pieces.
Image above are from the Jointed Jewels 2009 … it represents a union of new and old, organic and industrial, functional and decorative. At the heart of the collection was the intention to transform complex and separate elements into a new kind of whole. It started as an exploration of ball joints, commonly found in cars and hip replacements. Alissia had the idea of creating a ball joint -normally assembled with sepa- rate parts- as one single piece. Through the use of selective laser sintering (SLA) she was able to literally make a ball inside a ball.
… yes you read it correct the jewels are 3d printed and you can buy them online here.
And yes these images are from products Alissia has designed too … you see how diverse and talented she is! I love the Strap Collection and the Peasant Collection very much. Although the bench is not in production yet, the smaller milk stools are manufactured and distributed by Y'A Pas Le Feu Au Lac from France.
Alissia is founder and creative director of byAMT Inc, which she in her own words says is a New World-Old World mash-up. The daughter of a French mother and American father, she was born and raised in The Netherlands and for the past 10 years living in NY.
ps. If you are interested in producing any of the product please contact ALissia info@byamt.com

Betsy & Iya, the eponymous jewelry line of Portland, Oregon-based designer Betsy Cross, has always been marked by a certain sweetness and androgyny. Her pieces are sentimental, but working the metal by hand gives them a few rough edges that look appropriate on both men and women. In June…
