Hot In The Hive: Olive Poop Bags For Your Pups

imageIf you’ve grown up in a dog friendly city like I have, you know that some dog owners let their dogs do their business, only to walk away without cleaning up. There have been many close calls to to soles of my shoes but I’m always thankful for the people who do clean up after their dogs. Since I’ve been on a eco-friendly mindframe, I’ve been thinking about all the plastic bags out there. Did you know that US dogs produce enough waste to fill an 800-foot-tall football field every year and plastic bags can take over 100 years to decompose? We’ve been using reusable bags when we go shopping to keep plastic bags out of the landfills, so why not change your poop scooping habits too? That’s why dog owners should check out the olive poop bags! They’re made of corn starch and vegetable oil which makes them biodegradable, and they’ll compost in about 40 days. Fido may be man’s best friend, but use these bags and you’re well on your way in being Mother Nature’s best bud!

Hot In The Hive: The Sony W Series Walkman

imageOne would think that being both a jogger and a musicophile is a personality combo made in athlete’s heaven, given all the Apple-Nike collabos and music-friendly running accessories, not to mention all the sweet hour-long cardio remixes I’ve stumbled across on Pandora. But running with your music device is easier said than done, unfortunately, especially if you’re jogging out in the fresh air without a treadmill’s shelf to perch your player upon. In an effort to keep my hands free, I’ve even tucked my iPod under the band of my sports bra… which kept it secure, but soaked in sweat by the time my run was over (sorry, TMI). Sure, you could always buy an armband holster specifically for your mp3 gadget, but I’m still always getting my headphone wires snagged and yanked out by bushes and mailboxes I’ve narrowly had to bypass. Is it just me, or should combining these hobbies be much less complicated?! With the Sony W Series Walkman, it finally is! The 2-gig gizmo combines the music player and the earpieces into a one-part device, so it’s literally just a pair of headphones — no wires to get tangled in or contraption to tuck anywhere but your ears! It functions similarly to the iPod Shuffle, only let’s face it — this is much more convenient for a girl on the go. Plus, even if you’re not sold yet on the concept itself, how can you resist its hot pink design?

Hot In The Hive: Cat Cosmetics Smolder Eye Pencil

imageWhen it comes to testing out new beauty products, I’m my own guinea pig. I’ll try anything once, which is most likely the most logical explanation for all of my busted-at-the-seams makeup bags, overflowing with a whole slew of rainbow shades I’ve hardly given a second look at. This compulsion towards all things cosmetic is also the reason why I almost tripped over myself in excitement at the chance to try Cat Cosmetics Smolder Eye Pencil, a double-ended 2-in-1 shadow/liner duo designed for achieving dramatic bedroom eyes on the go. After all, if I were to favor any kind of makeup over the rest, anything that can be described as both “smokey” and “2-in-1” would certainly top the list. The verdict? Despite the helpful application suggestions that come with it, the cream-based bronze shadow end is a little tough to blend for maximum “smolder” effect, but because of its no-budge formula, the product makes an awesome smudge-free liner duo!

Hot In The Hive: Russian Amber Imperial Shampoo from Philip B.

imageI’ve said it before and I’ll say it again… I have strangely unmanageable hair. You’d think that since I’m Asian and I have straight hair, that I should have the easiest to manage hair ever. I was hoping for the same, but no such luck. I have to deal with a lot of fly-aways and cow-licks and my part never wants to stay in one place. Straightening my hair works out a few of these problems, but then I’m left with flat, dull hair that looks like it’s been shelacked to my head. So many girls and so many types of hair and I just want one, reliable beauty product that’ll give me my dream hair without me having to add de-frizzer, sleek-enhancer, volume spray and heat protection and then have to run the whole, processed thing through a straightener! Do you feel me? Ok, so take a deep breath and calm yourself (and that hair) because I may have found the product we’ve all been waiting for! I present to you the Russian Amber Imperial Shampoo by Philip B. This shampoo gives you your best hair. If you have flat, limp hair, it adds body and shine. Frizziness and fly-aways driving you crazy? Instant sleek. It has been called the “Fountain of Youth” for hair and leaves your tresses looking hydrated, beautiful and at it’s best for up to 2-3 days longer! This means more time in the morning for breakfast… or do what I do and stay under the covers until the last moment! Granted that this shampoo is pricey at $140 for a small bottle, you’ll be saving by not having to buy other hair enhancing products! Save it as a special occasion treat and really top off your look with a great head of shiny, healthy, enviable hair! There’s also a conditioner counterpart and other great (and cheaper!) hair products from Philip B. and you can find them at www.philipb.com.

Hot In The Hive: Wafer dermaSHOT iPod Shuffle Case

imageWhenever you buy a new piece of technology whether it’s a phone or a laptop, you always have to add a protective case to it as well. I mean, you’ll never know when you might slip on a banana peel and lose your precious data! An iPod definitely tops my list for gadgets that need extra protection. I’ve got over 10,000 songs in my iPod and I know it’ll take lots of time to recover all the music if I ever lose it. An iPod Shuffle may only hold about 1,000 songs, but that doesn’t it shouldn’t get a case too! And don’t even think about sticking it in some plain and boring silicone case that everyone else has. That’s where the WAFER dermaSHOT iPod Shuffle comes in! At less than $15, the tasty looking silicone cases come in three colors (chocolate, vanilla and strawberry, anyone?) and provide shock resistance. Wear it to the gym and I guarantee everyone will be drooling over it!

Hot In The Hive: Isla Fisher’s Embellished Sandals For Less!

imageWhen your husband has an alter ego as uber-fabulous as Bruno, you better be spotted wearing only fashion design’s elite from your head to your feet! As a result, Isla Fisher is rarely caught looking less than cute, even when she’s keeping it super-casual on an outing with daughter Olive. While I’m sure Isla’s version of “bumming it” on a sunny afternoon stroll is hardly bargain-friendly, you can snag her summery embellished sandals without having to sell off any of your appendages. MySpringShoes.com sells an indistinguishable strappy pair for just $39.99, which is more than affordable considering their versatility! They’re both casual and comfy yet still dressy enough to wear out with their beaded and bejeweled straps and metallic detailing. If only I had known about this steal before I splurged on the style’s more costly twins by Steve Madden!

Hot In The Hive: Bubble Necklace By Marina and Susanna Sent

imageI recently went to a beautiful garden wedding where the bride looked radiant in white and the bridal party and groomsmen where matching in verbena green accessories. It was a pretty informal affair, with the groom strumming a song on his acoustic guitar as the bride walked down the aisle. This non-traditional ceremony ended with all the attendees blowing bubbles instead of throwing rice or confetti. I haven’t seen the pictures yet, but I’m sure that the bride and groom looked amazing with bubbles surrounding them. When I found the Bubble Necklace at the MoMA store recently, I realized I could get the same look without getting drenched in soapy solution (or hitched!). Made of Murano glass beads, the beads look like they’re effortlessly floating on your decolletage. While they’re harder to pop, be careful not to break any of the glass bubbles!

Hot In The Hive: Clean and Go MO Action Figure

imageI spent all last weekend indoors despite the beautiful weather outside. Why? Because I treated myself to a three-disc special edition set of Pixar’s Wall-E. The set is chock full of deleted scenes, audio commentary, and special clips about making the movie. That meant hours of fun for me! With any Pixar movie, there’s bound to be toys to go with it. Being at a point where I’ve been buying toys for all the kids my friends and family are having, I’ve been keeping a close eye on toys they’d like to have. Never have I really wanted to keep one for myself, until now. The Clean and Go MO is an adorable action figure I’d love to display on my bookshelf. The obsessive compulsive clean freak from the movie can actually clean your room! He comes with a little bristle roller that picks up crumbs and dust lying around. Too bad he doesn’t make cute little noises though, but that just means I’ll incorporate my own sound effects!

Hot In The Hive: iPhone App Coasters

imageThose of the slightly younger set may not know this, but before the iPod and Mac laptops, Apple was on the brink of being obsolete. They were associated with the huge, loud computers in the school library that you could only do research on or else the librarian would throw her glasses at you. The iPod is maybe the greatest comeback product in history. It not only brought Apple back from the brink, but ricocheted them to number one in technological gadgets. Now you’d be hard pressed to find someone who doesn’t have at least one Apple product laying around the house. I’ve had an a few of the iPod variation, but I’m actually lusting over the iPhone. Well, those at Apple must have felt bad for people like me who would love to jump on the iPhone band-wagon but, for whatever reason, have not. There are now iPhone app coasters that I can also put on my table, and for the fraction of the price! These coasters come in a set of 16 “apps” and are made of MDF plywood wrapped in a vinyl and varnish. A rubber back keeps it from moving around and they’re washable and reusable! Ok, so they don’t actually allow you to pull up the weather in Tunisia or give you a recipe for “Easy Chicken Bake” with just a click of a button, but they are awesome and fun! At $60 for the entire set, these make a great gift for the i-Aficionado or for those like me who just want to rub elbows with this elite i-Group!
