Hot In The Hive: She Hit Pause Studios Pin-Up Girl Photos By Matt Schwartz

imageToday’s pin-up girl isn’t posed. She’s not perfectly manicured, makeup-ed and primped. She’s not innocently provocative, but casually provocative. She’s unknowingly gorgeous, yet very sure of herself. She’s playful and shameless. Being naked clothed, or covered in gumballs is all the same to her. She sees both sunshine and rain and is just fine being in either one. She’s not always happy, nor is she always sad, but she’s beautiful no matter the mood. Thanks to original Matt Schwartz’s Polaroid snapshots that he captured for She Hit Pause Studios, today’s pin-up girl is ours to admire. The images are such true artistic reality that no matter how raw it seems for her to be lying naked alongside a mirror, or how insignificant she seems as her head bobs out of a massive pool of dark water, she’s still virtuous, flawless, robust. Enjoy the dynamic display of Schwartz’s latest collection of today’s pin-up girl in this slideshow and pick up a few prints for contemporary, femme-foward home!

Label Love: Gaspard Yurkievich Showcases Avant-Garde Classics

imageWho knew something as simple as a classic sheath dress or oversized tee could be made to look so unique and interesting? Gaspard Yurkievich, first known for his eclectic menswear, puts an avant-garde spin on would-be simple basics and classic garments. His new S/S 2010 collection showcases a collection of dresses, tops, pants and skirts that are on the verge of a classic silhouette, only to take a surprising turn in style detail or shape. Silky wovens of varying weights are presented in golden mustard, darkest navy, black, white and a blue and beige floral motif, as well as a smoky, cloudy grey pattern. Asymmetrical hems, flowing fabrics and emphasized shoulders define this breezy Ready-to-Wear collection of pieces and are made even more interesting when styled with layered knee-high socks and heeled sandals of mismatched colors. Blouses are sheer and embellished with mini ruffles and pleats, while many separates classic and stay classic and structured. Truly unique, but still completely wearable, Gaspard Yurkievich delivers and stays true to his personal aesthetic and is truly one-of-a-kind. Label Love: Lizzie Fortunato Jewels Are Fit For Royalty!

imageLizzie Fortunato Jewels may have humble beginnings as a Duke University campus project created by twins Elizabeth and Kathryn Fortunato, but it’s come a long way in its short 8 years of existence! Having already been featured in Harper’s Bazaar, Elle Magazine, The New York Times, and Women’s Wear Daily (among other honors!), the rapidly-growing jewelry line seeks to spread the idea that high-end accessories don’t have to be limited to diamonds, and even the most unexpected materials can be beautiful with the right fashion-forward design aesthetic. The latest collection draws inspiration from a voyage to India and the relics found in an abandoned palace. The result is silver and gold plating, knotted details, bib necklaces, and an overall collection that is exotic and antique-inspired yet with a modern edgy spin. Label Love: Winter Kate Keeps It Cool For Summer!

imageNicole Richie may have said she doesn’t even know why she’s famous, but her line speaks volumes when it comes to explaining why she’s a well-established fashion icon. Winter Kate, which just launched this year, is a culmination of everything Nicole loves about her own style: floaty blouses and structured jackets, ethereal and flowy pieces combined with edgier items like the perfect leather bomber and vintage-inspired yet updated wardrobe staples. While the Summer 2010 collection acknowledges the need to look put-together, it also emphasizes the appeal of effortless, easy-to-wear pieces that can be layered and worn comfortably without feeling restricted or overdone. With plenty of paisley prints, kimono-style wraps, and romantic slip dresses, Winter Kate’s latest looks are undeniably Nicole-influenced, but in a feminine yet casually wearable way that any fans of her boho-chic style can relate to and appreciate. Label Love: Quail Does Vintage For The Modern Girl

imageQuail founder and designer Michelle Nguyen Williams finds inspiration for her eclectic line just about everywhere — her fashionable BFFs, vintage finds from thrift stores, busy LA living — and is able to find beauty in just about all aspects of life. This results in a line designed for the modern girl who is one part fabulously glamorous, one part down-to-earth casual, 2 parts colorful and quirky, and just a tad nostalgic. She loves creating pieces that are completely wearable yet still fun and exciting, and designs that are retro-chic and feminine but still unexpectedly funky and fresh. Visit the Dark Side With Gemma Slack

imageIf you haven’t heard of Gemma Slack, you probably will soon, especially considering Fergie just donned one of her futuristic dresses in the Black Eyed Peas “Imma Be” music video. This UK born designer graduated from the London College of Fashion, but before her turn as a designer she focused on painting and sculpture. After finding her calling in fashion she went through a two year apprenticeship with Gareth Pugh. Not long after, she started her own line for spring 2010. Her sculpture background is evident in her interesting shapes and structured garments, she turns extraordinary materials into tailored garments. She draws inspiration from the dark and gothic in addition to old military armor. The Spring 2010 collection paired super structured leather and metal paneled corsets and bustiers with shredded and cut out mini dresses. For Fall 2010 she ventured into the land of menswear showing slim leather pants, jackets and some crazy mid drift baring tops. While her looks may not be for everyday wear, they are a welcome touch of darkness to any closet.

Label Love: Fluxus Finds A Happy Medium Between Art & Comfort

imageFluxus founder Martin Paquette may draw inspiration from 1960’s art movements, but his collection is anything but dated! Focusing on blending all aspects of life — from art and fashion to practical living — the result is a line that is both comfortable with simple tactile materials and fashion-forward with innovative cuts. With a celebrity fan base that includes the likes of Megan Fox, Lauren Conrad, and Jessica Alba, and a designer collaboration with “Project Runway” winner Jeffrey Sebelia, Fluxus may have already begun making a pretty stellar name for itself. However, despite the company’s skyrocketing status within the fashion world, Paquette doesn’t let it get to his head, and never sacrifices his priorities when it comes to running his business sans outsourcing, facilitating social progress in the workplace, and giving back to inner-city communities.
