Arihant Superstructures

10 Cute And Whimsical Rugs For Your Stylish Home

imageIs it just me or the rugs I see in many of the foyers, rooms, and hallways that I encounter are either traditional Persian rugs or plain monotone or color blocked rugs? Where’s the fun in that? There’s a whole world out there where rugs can be fun and practically pieces of art that you can walk all over. Designers like Jonathan Adler and stores like CB2 have been creating fun rugs in response to all those dull dishrags out there. If your tastes run towards the more conservative spectrum, I really like the super soft Sheepskin Rug. For the inner child in all of us, take a peek at the Hopscotch Rug! Just remember, rocks aren’t included in this one. For more whimsical floor coverings, take a look at my slideshow.

Shine On With Kartell’s Cindy Table Lamp

imageWhat do you get when you combine a table lamp with ’70s retro appeal with a sheen of shimmery metallic finish? The Cindy Lamp from Kartell. I’m not sure if I love these lamps or am repulsed. I am drawn to their teardrop base shape and fun metallic chrome-like finish radiating an iridescent glow. I could see these paired with a minimalist room on an all black matte night stand that would make these babies pop. What do you think of these extremely shiny lamps? This Cindy lamp by Kartell comes in three colors: Platinum, Bronze and Violet. $273 at Barneys New York.

Mad For Plaid: The Iconic Pattern Takes Over Home Decor!

imageDid you know that plaid is a Scottish word meaning “blanket?” Of course, the term usually refers to the iconic patterned woolen cloth, but it’s been making a huge comeback. Whether it’s the down and dirty grunge look or classically prim and proper, plaid can fit a variety of styles. Going back to plaid’s homey roots, I’ve gathered some of the best plaid home accessories out there. Anthropologie may be known for their girly dresses and shoes, but I love looking at their hardware section to update the pulls on my dresser drawers. I’m getting more than a few Red Brockhampton Knobs since they’re also heavily discounted! For a thoroughly modern take on the tradition plaid blanket, check out the Missoni Home Kuala Throw Blanket. Give Your Workspace A Mini-Remodel For 2010 With These Cute (And Totally Necessary) Desk Accessories

imageWhether you have a small cubicle, an at home workspace or a big corner office, it’s time to start the New Year with a fresh clean desk. It’s 2010, a brand new year, so while you’re busy revamping your closet and your body, you might as well get yourself organized at work. Sweep off all those old papers and file them away in wire stackable baskets that are the perfect balance of chic and homey. If the business cards you collected at the last conference are gathering dust or you’re just plain tired of the Rolodex, try reorganizing your contacts in a cool mini file cabinet that sits on your desk. A sleek metal desk set will complement the mini industrial file cabinet. Add a pop of color with large clothespins to hold up memos or family photos. A retro sticker blackboard adheres to any wall, is perfect for jotting down all those new years resolutions, and is sure to jazz up your cubicle. Stay On Schedule In 2010 With These Unique Wall Calendars!

imageIn case you haven’t already snagged a 50% off 2010 “Cute ‘n Cuddly Puppies” or “Twilight” calendar (or even if you have — toss it!), I suggest starting off the new year on a design-savvy note and opting for a wall calendar that’s both unique and complementary to your home. After all, with all the electronic and PDA-powered personal calendars out there, regular ol’ wall hangers are really just for show nowadays… so you might as well choose one that makes a statement! If you’re looking for one that’s simple-chic (and can even take you through the years to come!), this perpetual calendar designed by Massimo Vignelli is clean yet still stylish. Or if you’re hoping for something a little quirkier, this 2010 Bubble Wrap calendar is a clever way to keep track of the passing days. Browse the slideshow for more unique wall calendars to add some 2010 flavor to your home!

Hot In The Hive: Luxeed Rainbow LED Keyboard

imageIf you have a tendency to spill coffee or soda on your computer keyboard (RIP to my first college laptop), then make sure you steer clear of this rainbow light-up version from Luxeed, because it’s much too pretty to ruin! USB-powered and illuminated by 430 LEDs, this keyboard can be customized to change color, flash in patterns, or light up at each press of an individual key. It comes in white, which has a flashier, more transparent look, and black, which is slightly more subtle yet just as stylish with its opaque keys and rainbow lettering. At $139.99-149.99, it’s quite a costly aesthetic investment if you’re not already in the market for a separate add-on keyboard, but I have to say I’m tempted regardless! Of course, first I’d have to kick the habit of drinking coffee while composing e-mails…

Price: $139.99 for black, $149.99 for white

Hot In The Hive: Tipsy Toes Ice Cubes

imageThe old adage, “a girl can never have enough shoes” is definitely one of my style mantras. I’m pretty sure I have over 20 pairs of shoes in my closet! So why shouldn’t I apply that motto to the rest of the house too? I could always use a cold drink, so a few of these frozen red heels from CB2 would go perfectly with any sophisticated beverage. The glam ice cubes are made of foodsafe polyethylene that you can freeze over and over again. So the next time you forget to make ice cubes, just throw in a pair of shoes instead. Your unsuspecting guests will surely get a kick out of finding them in their lemonade or gin & tonic!

Price: $5.95

Get The Party Started With Festive NYE Decor!

imageChristmas and Hanukkah may have come and gone and I hope you’re not out returning gifts because it’s time to prepare for your New Year’s Eve celebration! If you’re hosting a shindig at your house to watch the countdown for the ball drop or you’re lucky enough to have a patio to see the fireworks, then your home has to match the festivities outside. Of course, you wouldn’t want to buy things you can only use once a year so the trick is to pick certain colors or finishes that evoke the feeling of New Year’s Eve. I’ve chosen some classic glass pieces as well as silver which can work all year round. I really like these shiny silver pillows that remind me of Andy Warhol’s Silver Clouds Installation. For a glass item, check out the Stelton Set Of Six Glass Coasters to protect all of your wood furniture. Check out my slideshow to see more!

10 Kitchen Goodies And Gadgets For Your Holiday Baking Needs

imageIn the movie “Clueless,” (R.I.P. Brittany Murphy!) Cher lends us a bit of her own romantic advice, ever so adorably insisting that “Whenever a boy comes over, you should always have something baking” (as she throws a whole roll of cookie dough into the oven). I don’t know about you, but when I bake to impress someone, I want the end product to be edible! The holidays are the best time of year to brush up on your baking skills and make delectable cookies, pies, and cakes. But if your baking pans have seen better days and you’re not sure whether the cookie cutter is supposed to be an oval or circle, it might be time to get a few new tools. I personally swear by these Le Creuset Silicone Baking Cups which are reusable — you’ll never have to run out to the store to buy more baking cups again. Take a look at my slideshow to see more!
