Give A Modern Twist On The Pet Rock For Father’s Day

imageDoes your dad have every kooky gadget imaginable? From those silly singing trout to spy-like listening devices, he’s got them all stashed around the house. But here’s a gadget that really stands out because it actually lives in plain sight. Best Buy recommends rocks speakers as one of the best Dad’s Day gifts this season (don’t forget! June 21st!), and we totally agree. The perfectly camouflaged wireless speakers are a great addition to any backyard barbeque! He’ll be wondering all afternoon where the music is coming from (until you let him in on his own present, of course!) Check out Pronto’s array of colors and sizes – there are enough to beat out your childhood rock collection. And way less heavy, too. Useful Wedding Presents That Won’t Get Returned The Next Day

imageThis week, we’ve found 10 wedding gifts the happy couple will actually use because c’mon, how many towels or toasters do they really need? Okay, so you’re at a wedding, staring at the gift table and playing that fun game where you try to guess what’s in each dramatically-wrapped box. But as you’re getting into the swing of things, impressing inexplicably single groomsmen with your skills and wit, you begin to notice a pattern: half of the boxes are the exact same size. Know why? They’re all full of tumblers. Six to eight tumblers are great. 95? Not so much. Avoid being a giver of boring, repetitive gifts and give the newlyweds something they’ll actually use. NOTE: If you’re not close with the couple or aren’t sure about what they already own, stick to the registry. There’s a reason they asked for that meat tenderizer. Hot In The Hive: KIKKERLAND Knock Off Lamp

imageI recently went bowling with a group of friends and had a funny feeling that I’d get the lowest score of the night. It didn’t help that one friend had his very own custom bowling ball and another had a charming hop to his bowling technique. While I had a few spares, many of my attempts landed in the gutter. Not to worry! I still had a great time and actually scored better than I expected. So while I was scouring the web to look for a new table lamp today, I was surprised to find the KIKKERLAND Knock Off Lamp from Revolve. No it’s not that kind of a knock off. It’s because you won’t find an on/off switch on this lamp. Instead, standing it upright will turn it on and knocking it on its side will turn it off. Guess this is one time when you don’t want to be knocking pins down unless you want a pitch black room!

Spend Time In Your Backyard Or Patio With New Outdoor Furniture

imageAfter a long and cold winter and spring quickly passing us by, it’s finally getting nice enough to spend more time outdoors! From lounging by the poolside to spending some serious time at the grill, nothing beats spending time in your very own backyard. But if you’ve recently discovered that your outdoor furniture didn’t survive the winter (cracked wood or rusted metal), then it’s high time to upgrade. I’ve also got some buying tips to make sure you get the most bang out of your buck. When buying metal furniture, look for labels that say they’re powder coated and rust resistant. For wood furniture, teak is best, but it’s also very expensive and slow growing. Instead, look for eucalyptus wood, which is sustainable and is water resistant. Who says outdoor furniture has to be hard and uncomfortable? I’d be happy sit on the Corsica Outdoor Oversized Chair all day long. In need for seating space and storage? Get the Chesapeake Bench Ice Chest which keeps all your drinks ice cold and the lid lowers into an extra seating space. Check out my slideshow for more outdoor furniture ideas. Just remember to store everything in a safe place in the winter so you don’t have to buy new outdoor furniture every year!

Wall Decor To Freshen Up A Room Without Breaking Your Budget

imageSometimes, I’m so bored that I can just stare at the wall all day. Which got me thinking, wow- I should really mix things up. I’ve done some research and come up with some really cute wall decor items – from prints to fun shelves to sconces – and compiled them in this slideshow. The best part? Hot In The Hive: Missoni Brings Back The Bean Bag Chair

imageIf the silly (and not especially comfortable) trend known as the bean bag chair has already had its “comeback” in the realm of popular home furnishings, I guess I wouldn’t have been the first to know. After all, I probably haven’t “relaxed” in one since I was in preschool, where they could be found slumped in various corners of the room, misshapen and abused by rowdy children and patched back together with duct tape in the places where they had inevitably sprung a messy leak of styrofoam “beans.” Yuck. Who in their right mind would try to bring back those sad sacks? Why, Missoni, that’s who! But wait — these aren’t just any bean bag chair. With their soft and comfy exterior, eclectic patterns and coloring, and wide variety of shapes and sizes, these bean bags are the old garbage bag version’s much chicer younger cousin. Could it be that Europe’s home decor experts are turning an out-dated uncomfortable fad into the ultimate combo of laziness and luxury? Check out the selection at dotmaison.com and see for yourself!

Mirror, Mirror, On The Wall…

imageLet’s be honest — we all kind of love checking ourselves out. Whether we’re sneaking a peek in the reflection of a street-side window, or openly (well, privately, really) gussying up to dance and sing in front of an imagined-audience-of-many, mirrors play an important part in our lives. Hell, I’m not sure many of us could go a day without seeing a mirror at some point. The best mirrors, however, are ones that are beautiful on their own, without the help of our lovely selves standing in front of them. And the best of mirror-makers are those that consider themselves artists, creating wonderful masterpieces that sometimes seem better fit in a gallery than, say, above your bathroom sink. Turn your home into a gallery that bills your face as the main attraction with the interesting accents that these artists have designed to make these mirrors of our pretty faces. Check out this slideshow to take a peek at some of the coolest mirrors out there!

Hot In The Hive: Condiment Gun

imageI know what you’re thinking, why is a toy gun being featured at Stylehive? But trust me, this is no ordinary toy gun. With all the barbecue parties you’ll be going to this summer, this little condiment gun will be your must-have accessory! Instead of the water guns of your childhood, this one will tickle your taste buds instead of getting you soaked. Load this gun with condiments such as mustard or ketchup, squeeze the trigger and you’ll have exactly the right amount of sauce on your hot dogs or burgers. Once you’re done dressing your barbecue meats, it might be time to ambush some unwitting guests with a good old fashioned food fight. Just a word of warning though, don’t be surprised if they’re packing some condiment loaded heat too.

Price: $24.98
