Graffiti artist extraordinaire BLU just released another amazing video, this time collaborating with David Ellis. If you’re not familiar with BLU’s work, check out this post we made back in January.

Graffiti Taxonomy

Artist Evan Roth, collected 2,400 individual graffiti tags from all over Paris for his new project called Graffiti Taxonomy. Evan explains that “the sets are not intended to display the “best” graffiti tags in Paris, but rather aim to highlight the diversity of forms ranging from upper case to lowercase, simple to complex and legible to cryptic.”

“The ten most commonly used letters by Paris graffiti writers were identified for further study (A,E,I,K,N,O,R,S,T and U). From each letter grouping, eighteen tags were isolated to represent the diversity and range of that specific character.”

ReubenMiller’s Got a Brand-Spanking New Look!

I’m sure you’ve noticed by now that we’ve got a fresh new look for the blog. After a lot of coding, tweaking and generally making a mess of CSS, I’ve managed to get it to look half-decent (let me know what you think of it!) It still remains a work-in-progress. The goal of this redesign was to make it easier to get around and add some more color. After all, you know we’re suckers for color!

Last but not least, our large header incorporates the work of a featured artist. We’ll be featuring different artists in that space and rotating them over time to keep things interesting. This isn’t a sponsored spot, but rather a testament to our support of great artists. Our first feature is of the brilliant and witty Simon Oxley, one of our all-time favorites.

Enjoy!

Fuzzy Graffiti

Neozoon is re-populating the streets of Paris and Berlin with silhouettes of animals made from recycled fur coats. This form of street art has been coined “UpCycling” — improving on the last cycle of the products life. Quite a concept. Interesting indeed….

According to PETA, about 30 percent of fur sold in the US is from wild-caught game. Once caught, the animals are kept in cramped cages, and many are poisoned before being skinned.

To Sharpie, With Love

The Sharpie is a tool utilized by graffiti artists across the globe. The Sharpie Show, brings it all together to pay homage to this basic instrument and for many, an essential tool:

The Sharpie Show, “an exhibition by artists who utilize marking pens as part of their craft,” comes to Los Angles’ Crewest Gallery Saturday, February 7th, 2009 with an opening reception from 6pm – 9pm with beats by DJ Phyz Ed and live printing by Two Rabbits.

He’s an Italian graffiti artist that paints gigantic wall pieces, whose also done some cool stop-motion work. MUTO is definitely one of them worth checking out. Really impressive for it’s length and the sheer amount of wall coverage (not to mention all the other graffiti he paints over). Check his site here, be sure to scroll through the blog.
