The TS side table features a circular marble top in Bianco Carrara, Nero Marquina, Verde Guatemala or Marrone Emperador, atop a geometric lacquered black frame. The tables come in three heights, so that they work together as a group and can also be used separately.

An iteration of the Beetle Chair introduced in Milan last year, the Beetle Bar Chair offers the same comfort at bar height, something that traditional bar stools often lack.

The Masculo chair was GamFratesi’s first design to make it into production. They have now added a swivel base, which gives the chair a new role in business environments and home offices.

GamFratesi designers Stine Gam and Enrico Fratesi anticipate that the Baroque setting will provide an appropriate backdrop for their work. “We’ve often been inspired by art, whilst also being aware of the heritage of design,” said Fratesi.

Petal-shaped mobiles balance above GamFratesi’s lounge at Stockholm Furniture Fair

Stockholm 2014: as Guest of Honour at Stockholm Furniture Fair, design duo GamFratesi has installed petal-shaped mobiles above the lounge area at this year’s exhibition.

Stine Gam and Enrico Fratesi decided on a theme of balance for their installation at the annual showcase of Nordic design.

“We’ve been working on this idea of balance,” Fratesi told Dezeen. “We’ve been researching it for a while and it is something that is really difficult to achieve.”

They designed a collection of mobiles to hang above and among the lounge area in the entrance hall of the Stockholmsmässan exhibition centre.

“These hanging elements were really interesting to us, something that was moving slowly,” said Fratesi.

The pair referenced the work of twentieth-century American sculptor Alexander Calder for this project.

“We wanted to bring the feeling behind the artist to furniture in a very industrial way,” Fratesi explained. “We were analysing these mobiles and could see that they were very crafted, very thin and hand bent.”

They spent a long time experimenting with the size and shape of the panels to get them to hang in equilibrium.

“We found that they were so sensitive to any kind of changes,” said Gam. “As soon as you change a milligram or a centimetre on one piece, the whole thing becomes completely unbalanced.”

The petals were upholstered in a palette of red and blue shades, all with greyish tones. Fabric produced by Danish company Kvadrat was heat-pressed over recycled felt, which acts as a sound absorber.

Combinations of three, four and five of petal-shaped elements are hung from black metal rods, attached together with small flexible joints.

The mobiles are suspended on thin wires above an open lounge area, arranged around a central white block. GamFratesi wanted to create an open space rather than a closed environment.

“In the beginning, we thought we’d close everything to make an intimate space where people could relax,” said Fratesi. “But then we thought this was dishonest. People are moving around, so why don’t we emphasise this feeling in the space.”

The lounge area is furnished with sofas, dinning tables and chairs plus other designs the duo have created during their career, including the Rewrite desk with a cave-like shield on top.

Table and pouffe hybrid designed by GamFratesi for Ligne Roset

Cologne 2014: Denmark design duo GamFratesi has combined a coffee table and pouffe to create footstools with integrated trays for French brand Ligne Roset (+ slideshow).

Trouf table and pouffe hybrid by GamFratesi for Ligne Roset

Trouf, a cross between a tray and a pouffe, was designed by GamFratesi with both hard and soft surfaces as a multi-functional piece of furniture.

“We wanted to join different functions just combining soft and hard surfaces, and create furniture where the different objects or moods find their place informally,” Enrico Fratesi told Dezeen.

Wooden trays for holding food or drinks are set into the upholstered tops, offset so a fabric section at one end can be used for laptops, books or resting feet.

Rounded edges were designed so sharp corners wouldn’t cause any issues when walking past. “It seemed correct to have a rounded shape,” said Fratesi. “Since the position of the furniture is in front of a sofa or a lounge chair, we wanted to facilitate the passage between sitting and pouf – avoiding any kind of angle and the rigid part.”

A palette of pastel colours was chosen for the fabric coverings, though these can be customised to match or stand out against the users’ existing furniture.

“The colours that we have selected for these models are soft and nearly muted, but in fact the pouf can be upholstered with very different fabrics and colours so that can be in combination or contrast with the seat in front,” Fratesi explained.

The surfaces are slightly raised on small white wooden legs. The trays are available in natural oak or stained the colour of anthracite, and can be removed along with the upholstery for cleaning.

Trouf is on display at Ligne Roset‘s stand located in Hall 11.3 at imm cologne until Sunday. It will also be shown at Maison&Objet outside Paris from 24 to 28 January.

Here’s some more information from Casamania:

Chariot is a mobile table consisting of three simple elements joined together: wheels, trays and structure. The wheels, which in common carts are usually small, are brought to the extreme size, becoming the iconic element of the project.

The rubber profile is inserted into the wheels for easy movement; the two trays act as storage compartments, the metal structure is also a handle: slightly raising the cart, it can be moved.

Like the original, Picnic is raised on short legs with a handle looped over the top so it’s easy to move around. The box is made entirely from ash and stained in black.

This time last year GamFratesi launched their Rewrite desk for Ligne Roset – take a look at it here.

Picnic by GamFratesi for Ligne Rose

imm cologne continues until 22 January. Ligne Roset will also present the collection at Maison & Objet in Paris from 20 to 24 January.

Here are some more details from Ligne Roset:

Picnic

As with their Rewrite desk from 2011, the aesthetic astonishment arises from the unexpected meeting between the déjà-vu (‘already seen’) and a surprising new element: the storage section is evocative of the traditional sewing box or workbox, but when one turns away from the original function (the first priority is no longer necessarily to arrange one’s sewing kit) and updates the materials (black-stained ash replaces the more traditional oak or cherry), it transcends the more ordinary references to take on another dimension altogether, one which is both familiar and strange.

Picnic’s familiar, domestic character is underlined by the softly curved treatment of the storage chest as well as its support feet/handle which enables it to be moved about with ease.

Here’s a little information from Ligne Roset:

GamFratesi is a design agency which was founded in Copenhagen in 2006 by Danish architect Stine Gam and Italian architect Enrico Fratesi. This Italian-Danish coupling brings together two gifted European design traditions: a magical union between Southern and Northern design. And the result: the Rewrite desk, designed like a bubble, a little jewel of modernity and softness.

Those who work from home do not necessarily want their living rooms to resemble an open plan office! At once aesthetic and functional, this astonishing study cocoon, covered in a sound-absorbing woollen material, is perfect for preserving both concentration and intimacy.

AESTHETICS

The soundproofed ball affords protection from both light and external noises and also dampens sounds emanating from within it. The natural, precious materials of which it is composed, walnut and Kvadrat Divina wool, reinforce the overall feeling of softness and security.

The astonishing appearance arises from the unexpected meeting between the déjà-vu and a surprising new element: the desk section is quite traditional in terms of its shape and materials (a wooden table), but when one adds its bubble, it breaks free of all historical or proportional references.

The functional aspect is covered by a lacquered metal chest, fixed beneath the desk, which conceals transformers and electrical cables, and by a slit cable port in the top of the desk. Whist staying connected, the user can isolate himself and construct for himself a very private space which is nonetheless still linked to the outside world…Thanks to its rounded shape, the Rewrite desk can be located as a ‘point’ anywhere in a room, be it living room, bedroom or even a large hallway.

Rewrite has already been displayed at the Danish Museum of Art and Design, Copenhagen.

Desk with legs in solid walnut and top in walnut veneered MDF, with the exception of the slit cable port in the rear section which is made from solid walnut. Ball/screen in fibreglass clad in polyether foam and Divina craie on both its internal and external faces. Chest in white lacquered steel to take transformers and cables, located beneath the top.
