Memorizing The Right Cuppa Java

It takes a good barista to memorize their customer’s favorite cuppa coffee and serve it right for them. However sometimes we get stuck with a snobbish one who just doesn’t get it right. Memory is a coffee maker that uses hand print recognition to make the right cup of coffee for the right person. Set it to your preference of weak, medium or strong coffee or even an espresso to a ristretto. Each time be assured of your favorite blend as Memory will remember your preference accurately. A simple hand scan is all it needs.

Tree + Eat = Treat

Treat is a seamless way of storing and managing the leftover food. It employs classic food storage techniques like vacuum sealing and modern remote mobile technology to ensure your food is always consumed fresh. The appliance has a clever and intuitive way of communicating its warning when the food is expiring. It changes its color as the food ages (like the ripening of a fruit!) and then drops down to the carpet below. This happens when the food stored is a lost cause and is completely expired. Access to the Treat with a mobile app is possible. It allows you to preheat your meal with remote settings. Very clever!

Experimental Cooking With Molecules

As an avid MasterChef fan, the appliances that the participants get to use, stump me. Imagine dabbling with molecular cooking and cooking meats in a water-bath. The Mo’Sphere hopes to recreate those magical moments in a regular kitchen. With bringing molecular cooking techniques to everyday homes, the possibility of experimenting with flavors and textures become limitless.

Until now this kind of cooking was restricted to celebrity chefs and Five Star restaurants. Basically molecular cooking appliance makes use of physical and chemical reactions during cooking. Imagine using flash freezing, foams, frosts, gelés and even cotton candy on an everyday basis. Mo’Sphere makes all of this possible.

Handsfree Cooking!

The Easystir is an automatic stirrer that allows you to pursue other work while it diligently looks after your dish. Foods like soups, broths and curries require constant stirring and I know for a fact that with some Indian cooking you need to keep on stirring for hours; yes HOURS! The stirring speed is adjustable, it is dishwasher safe and it doesn’t require recharging, battery replacements or plugging at all. It simply uses magnets that react to your induction stove!

Significantly Fresher Air

The Aeroball is a great way to filter air and get rid of odors. Tiny bubble-like balls hover and float in the air, cleansing it of impurities and offensive smells. The scented varieties dispense fragrance and enhance the mood. Inspired by fireflies and nature, the balls absorb light during the day and radiate it at night. Very akin to glowlights!

Break The Cooking ICE

ICE is the mix of a lamp, mood lighting and recipe database that can assist in making your cooking and dining experience even more delightful. The theme for this year’s Electrolux Design Lab was to create appliances that enhance your cooking experience by livening your senses. The ICE adheres to this in many ways.

As the designer explains, “When placed above any cooking or dining area ICE can scan its surroundings and assist the user in creating the best meal to suit any occasion. ICE can scan ingredients you’ve already chosen to cook and give suggestions on meals that can be made from those ingredients. The user can also access a vast database of recipes and ICE will guide you every step of the way.”

Musical Dinner

Imagine a future where food is inspired by music. I am talking about the SmartPlate, a dish that understands food and transforms it into sound. As described by Julian, it completes the circle of senses by which we understand what we eat. The plate hookes up wirelessly to your mobile device, and then by measuring the different aspects of your ingredients, it identifies food. It then precisely attaches musical notes, harmonies and rhythm to each ingredient.

Essentially the user can listen, compose and interact with recipes of sound!

Leftover Refrigerator

The Impress Refrigerator has an intriguing way of storing food. It holds containers or bottles in such a way that you can never forget that you have placed them there. It consumes lesser power when fewer items are placed, thus conserving energy. The open interface makes it easy for you to access the food and also never forget about them!

Ah, Refreshed!

With an aim to provide a fuller sensory experience, The Refresh was designed to act as a portable device that instantly cools your beverage. Essentially this means no more warm diet coke! Keeping up with the theatrics of good design, the appliance helps form a light condensation, followed by an enticing mist that envelopes the beverage bottle. Using advanced thermoelectric technology, the electric current causes the internal semiconductor nodes to instantly freeze.

As the designer explains, after the beverage is cooled Refresh converts the excess energy back into its rechargeable battery.

Materials: Clear coat stainless steel over an icy blue frosted glass which creates a smooth, cold and refreshing feel.
