Momiji Doll

On February 1st, Daryl van Wouw closed the 10th edition of Amsterdam International Fashion Week 2009 with his show inspired by the rich Asian culture, specifically Chinese symbolism. After skipping the last AIFW to open his own store, van Wouw chose Chinese motifs, a series of sure-to-be-popular sweater dresses and a lantern dress for his new collection, which closed AIFW in front of record crowds. Chinese Opera masks, traditional lanterns and good luck cats were both literally and figuratively incorporated into the collection as motifs, graphics and silhouettes. There were a lot of metallic and patterned leggings over short sweater dresses, combinations that were hinted at in previous Van Wouw collections, but which really came to life here. The sweaters were emblazoned with the colors and geometric patterns of the masks and even the dresses, simpler and more floaty than a typical Van Wouw design, carried the looks seamlessly into the night. The highlight, at least from an editorial perspective, was the bulbous red gown internally fitted with lanterns. Although a little gimmicky, the dress was lots of fun and served to underscore the collection’s theme with an added dose of graphic humor.

Hula Hoop Vase

pimg src=http://www.productdose.com/images/products/draft_5188.gif
alt= //ppThis vase from a href=http://www.giopatocoombes.com/Cristiana Giopato/a incorporates two attractive elements besides just looking good (something I try to convince the ladies of about myself). It recycles an old wine bottle to be used as a vase and it also allows you to customize your vase however you like using the discs. If you hike regularly it will also remind you of the trail markers that hikers make of small rocks to guide other hikers. |via a href=http://www.contemporist.com/2009/02/09/hula-hoop-vase-by-cristiana-giopato/Contemporist/a|br //p

Stingray Rocker

pimg src=http://www.productdose.com/images/products/draft_5191.gif
alt= //ppIf you’ve ever seen deep-sea nature documentaries where scuba divers grab hold of stingrays and ride along, then you’ve fantasized about gliding through the deep blue sea similarly propelled. This rocker by a href=http://www.fredericia.com/show.asp?lang=ukamp;s=furnitureamp;mk=amp;mt=-1amp;mid=11Thomas Pederson/a is about as close as you can get without having to put on the snorkel and mask. Though no one’s going to stop you from doing that if you’re so inclined. |via a href=http://www.notcot.com/archives/2009/02/stingray_rocker.phpNotCot/a|br //p

Bamboo Lamp

pimg src=http://www.productdose.com/images/products/draft_5192.gif
alt= //ppThere’s a retro appeal to these Bamboo lamps that make me think of shag carpets and Day-glo colors. The unique pull-cord dangles are just the touch to tip me into flashback mode. Weird. But somehow makes me want to push the buy button. |via a href=http://design-milk.com/bamboo-lamp-by-moooi/Design Milk/a|br //p
