It’s All About the Ring

Look at these projects here and here, then come back and compare. All three of them deal with a cup design for the visually impaired and hopes to avoid spills when filling a cup. Question is, which one of them solves the problem effectively? What do you think?

Just BeauTeaful

There are two types of people in this world: those who drink coffee and those who drink tea. While coffee drinkers need only doctor up their drinks with cream and sweetener, tea drinkers must carefully eye their steep from start to finish to get the perfect brew. To compliment this process, the BeauTea cup-within-a-cup was designed to give users an immersive experience with a clear view of their loose leaves as they work their magic! See how it works —>

Dogs of World Cup Brazil 2014

Tiny Landscape in a Coffee Cup

Vertical Challenge, Accepted!

Raúl Lázaro’s Giraffe Cup is proof that a small change in an otherwise classic design can go a loooong way to spark the imagination. The leggy design is both a cup and an art piece, sure to start conversations. Exotic enough to make a statement, but not so much that it looks like bad Tommy Bahama!

Cuppa Uppercup

The Uppercup is a sustainable designed, reusable takeaway coffee cup that is elegant and durable. It comes as a great alternate to the disposable cups that we see out there. Constructed as a double wall tumbler, it is made of Tritan plastic and is ultrasonically welded. The BPA free design insulates the cup and doesn’t absorb odors and flavors and is fully recyclable. Looks cool too!

  • The unique rotating lid can be turned to reveal a tilt-up spout and then resealed flat to prevent splashes.
  • The PP and LDPE parts separate for easy cleaning and recycling at the end of life.

An Expression of Espresso

If it weren’t functional at all, I’d still be in love with the look of the Ois Espresso Cup. But it is. So I do even more. Its fine bone china nestles perfectly into the tropical wood saucer to stabilize the cup so you can move with it…. and what good is coffee if you can’t take it with you?

This Cup Has A Ring To It

In an attempt to make life simpler for those with sight disabilities, designer Soon-sik Choi offers an effortless solution to the task of filling a cup. When the cup is almost full the handle makes a distinct ‘ring’ sound. The audio cue of the Xylophone Cup is a good enough warning for the user to know that the cup is almost to the brim and to stop pouring more liquid.

A Drip-Free World!

It’s no secret that the caffeine craving experienced by us coffee lovers is strong enough to risk having a ruined table or smeared papers! But now, that’s a thing of the past! The Drop Rest mug is an ingenious design that catches drips before they make it to the paper or surface of your desk. Capitalizing on the physics of surface tension, a thin groove keeps small, nuisance droplets in place so there’s no need to worry about coffee stains. So simple, it makes you wonder why you didn’t think of it first!
