Influential International Style: Camilla Belle

If you don’t know Camilla Belle yet, you will soon. The stunning Brazilian-American actress is just 22, but is already making a splash on the fashion circuit. Although she did star opposite the Jonas Brothers in their “LoveBug” video, Belle has since stepped it up, starring in sci-fi thriller “Push” with Dakota Fanning. As the face of Vera Wang’s Princess fragrance, it’s no wonder Belle is quite the fashion-forward young lady. Her youth and skin tone allow her to experiment with bright colors, fun prints, and tons of sparkles. Never looking too old or too young on a red carpet has proved difficult for some of her peers, but Belle manages to show them up consistently. To channel her fab style, make sure you choose brights that work with your skin tone, and prints that are not too young for you. Wearing bold is Camilla’s signature and I think she would look just adorable in something like Thurley’s trapeze silk dress. Check out my slideshow for lots of other Camilla Belle looks! Which Country Cutie Had The Winning Look At The Academy Of Country Music Awards?

Okay, I have to admit — I used to hate country music. From the slow twangy accents to the depressingly lame lyrics about dead dogs and barbecue stains and broken hearts, I just could never get into it… until recently! With the invasion of young powerhouse vocalists like Lady Antebellum and Carrie Underwood (“Last Name” — finally a country song I can relate to! Just kidding…) and down-to-earth lyrics from the likes of Taylor Swift and Sugarland, today’s country seems to have adopted a hipper vibe, a more rock-ish sound, and an overall edgier quality that gives the genre a more modern infectious energy and mass worldwide appeal! And to celebrate such musical innovation, the Academy of Country Music Awards honored music mavens young and old in Las Vegas this past Sunday, and if the genre’s leading ladies weren’t already enviable enough in their awards-sweeping talent and golden-haired good looks, their glamorous red carpet gowns almost stole the show out of their own hands! Carrie Underwood, the night’s biggest winner, toned down her usual sparkle with a fairytale-esque pastel ensemble, while Taylor Swift donned a mature one-shoulder red gown by Angel Sanchez that matched both the carpet and the backdrop, yet had her standing out just the same! Vote below on which of country’s biggest stars made the best red carpet appearance! Photo Credit: PR Photos

Ditch The Wayfarers And Get A Pair Of Circle Sunglasses!

It’s been said once and again, Mary-Kate Olsen is a trendsetter. A ways back she stood out in her circle shades in a sea of Wayfarer wearing celebs. A few months later a diverse set of designers like Proenza Schouler, Karen Walker and Ralph Lauren sent their models down the runway wearing, you guessed it… circular sunglasses. Slowly but surely you are seeing people put down the tried and true square glasses for a fresher look, a circle shade. If you want some “look at me” sunglasses, the circle is where it’s at. Small little O’s give a great 60’s John Lennon feel that bring you right back to days of peace and love. Try some purple “Super Duper” Karen Walker shades or if you’re not ready for the $200 dollar investment go for a pair from Urban Outfitters. Still hanging on to the big stunner shades look? You can still go circular! Try some oversized circles a la Nicole Richie for a 1970’s beach party look. Check out the slideshow to see some totally circular styles.

Get Lauren Conrad’s Breezy, Chic Springtime Style!

At The Richie-Madden Children’s Foundation and Sony Cierge fundraiser event, reality darling Lauren Conrad stepped out to show her support showcasing a fabulous spring-time style that was fun and fashion-forward but still stayed true to her signature California-cool style. Lauren kept her look simple but a little bit off-beat chic wearing a billowy Chelsea Flower top paired with slouchy black shorts by Loeffler Randall— I’m totally loving shorts as an alternative to the mini skirt for a night-time look. She rounded out the mix with a pair of Christian Louboutin peep-toe pumps, a sleek black clutch, a totally glam silver necklace and a braided headband that gave the look a fantastic boho twist. Check out my slideshow to get the look!

Influential International Style: Daphne Guinness

Daphne Guinness, heiress to the Guinness family fortune, sure seems to know what she’s doing. Quite simply, she’s a haute couturier’s dream. She’s open to all sorts of eclectic, wacky, detailed styling – and has the collection to prove it. Although she seems to prefer a simple color palette of blacks, whites and creams, they never appear the same way. Whether it’s a kerchief neckline, Jetson-esque cap sleeves or leopard print detailing, Guinness can pull it off in spades. As one of the world’s most prolific collectors of haute couture (what wouldn’t you give to also hold that title?), she’s a risk-taker, and often a winner of the fashion set. Rather than sticking to any rules, she simply has fun. Think Alexander McQueen meets Karl Lagerfeld meets Vivienne Westwood. Check out my slideshow for a sampling of Daphne Guinness’ style! What Do You Think Of The New Britney Spears For Candie’s Ads?

The new Britney Spears for Candie’s ad campaign has just been released, and all excessive photoshopping aside, she’s looking good- if not a bit Barbie-like. I just have a feeling people won’t even really notice the shoes she’s wearing, which, along with the Candie’s collection, will be available exclusively at Kohl’s. The ad will appear in just one publication- Us Weekly– as a pull-out poster in the April 15th issue. The last time I saw a pull-out poster was in my copy of Twilight, and it honestly made me feel way old, but if you’re nostalgic for the “Baby One More Time” era I suggest swinging by the newsstand in a couple weeks! One more thing: is this not the safest way to have your photo appear in a tabloid? Smart girl.

Reel To Real: “Clueless” Style For The Milennium

Cher Horowitz (Alicia Silverstone) endeared herself to fashionistas everywhere when she pleaded, “You don’t understand; this is an Alaia!” while held at gunpoint and forced to ruin her frock from, like, a totally important designer (so many quotables from this movie — be warned: I’m going to go there many times over). Clueless still holds up today as not just a modern classic, but also as a time capsule for mid-90’s fashion: plaid skirts, embellished jackets and cardigans, high-heeled Mary Janes, knee-highs/thigh-highs, and demure headbands. Craving a style trip down memory lane but don’t want to look like you’ve just stepped out of a Seventeen spread from 15 years ago (Ugh, as if!)? Take a look at the slideshow for a few basics from Cher, Dionne, and the gang’s looks updated for today’s way existential shopper.

Which Young Starlet Showed Off The Most Grown-Up Fashion Sense At Nickelodeon’s Kids’ Choice Awards?

This past Saturday, while UCLA students begrudgingly returned to campus as spring break came to a close, their back-to-school blues were made just a little more bearable with a slew of orange carpet celebrity sightings right on campus! Nickelodeon’s 2009 Kids’ Choice Awards, which takes place annually at the school’s Pauley Pavilion, brought to Bruin territory the likes of Megan Fox, Miley Cyrus, the Jonas Brothers, and the whole High School Musical crew, among tons of other Young Hollywood appearances worthy of making any paparazzo drool. While the kids called the shots as far as who received a golden Blimp statuette and who got slimed, it was the ladies who took the cake on the carpet, looking much more like refined young women than their kiddie characters who shot them to fame. Instead of the more casual jeans-and-heels combo that stars have been known to rock at the lesser-hyped award shows geared towards kids and teens, today’s younger vixens stepped it up a notch with designer babydolls and platform sandals, showing that they can compete stylewise with even some of fashion’s most mature! Vote below on who you think looked the most fab beyond her years! Photo Credit: PR Photos

Video Style Steal: Go GaGa Over Ladylike Interpretations Of Lady GaGa’s “Poker Face”

Whether or not you’re a fan of her futuristic, robot-like, pantsless persona, you can’t deny that Lady GaGa is an interesting character (after all, anyone who can make Perez stop talking about the Octo-Mom for a few posts has to be at least somewhat intriguing). With electro-pop hits like “Just Dance,” “Poker Face,” and any of the other sound-alike tracks off her debut album The Fame, GaGa has gained a rapidly-growing following. While I certainly don’t question the appeal of her catchy beats (although I’m still trying to figure out what on Earth a “disco stick” is), I’m thoroughly convinced that her talked-all-over-town popularity is due largely in part to her bizarre outfit choices and overall “Donatella Versace in outer space” gimmick. And while we at Stylehive would never promote public indecency by encouraging you to go without pants in public, you may be surprised to see just how inspirational some of Lady GaGa’s futuristic fashion choices really are, as long as you don’t attempt a literal translation of her shiny black catsuits and hooded capes. From practical patent leather booties to a chunky cocktail ring and a simple pair of liquid leggings, you can channel the artist’s funky style (one bold piece at a time!) and still stop traffic without looking like a spaceship! Click “See Video” to watch her provocatively funky “Poker Face” vid, then check out the slideshow to see some wearable translations of her eccentric ensembles!
