Stars Celebrate Matthew Williamson’s Second H&M Collection Launch

imageLast week, the stars aligned at New York’s South Street Seaport to celebrate the launch of Matthew Williamson’s second collection for H&M, the first of which debuted in stores only a week before. Performances by Grace Jones and music by DJ Michel Gaubert and DJ Hanna Hanra provided entertainment while hosts and hostesses dresses as sailors added a beachy, tropical vibe to the soiree. Mary-Kate Olsen, Helena Christensen, and Lucy Liu came out to admire the collection, which is set to arrive in stores on May 14. Williamson himself had this to say: “Working with H&M has been such a wonderful experience. The global launch event in New York City was a spectacular soiree. I was delighted to see so many of my friends from the fashion world support this collection.” The collection will feature colorful prints and sophisticated tailoring, in addition to a men’s line which will be Williamson’s first. Have You Seen The Chanel No. 5 Short Film With Audrey Tautou?

imageWatch the new short film for Chanel No. 5 on the product’s official website! It stars Amelie’s Audrey Tautou and is set to debut as a TV advertisement soon. The mood is definitely romantic with its train setting, longing looks, and its exotic Istanbul locale. Amelie director, French filmmaker Jean-Pierre Jeunet, brings a softer, romantic side to Chanel No. 5 — a stark contrast to the glitzy and glamorous ads starring Nicole Kidman, as well as the ones from the 80’s with Carole Bouquet. Chanel No. 5 becomes a soft, artistic, and sophisticated lady thanks to Audrey Tautou. On a side note, I love the delicate star necklace she’s wearing in the last scene! What do you think?

Reel to Real: Diane Keaton in “Annie Hall”

imageIs there anything more quintessentially New York chic than Diane Keaton’s wardrobe in Woody Allen’s classic ode to love, “Annie Hall?” Trailblazing and iconic, Annie Hall’s style was boyfriend before there was boyfriend: mannish trousers, waistcoats, tailored blouses, bowler hats, wingtip oxfords, and oversize blazers created a look that was part English country gentleman, part West Village bohemian. Even more fashion-forward? The look was pretty much Diane Keaton’s own creation. According to movie lore, the film’s costumer, Nancy McArdle, was at best dubious about how Keaton’s look would appeal to moviegoers but at Woody Allen’s vehement insistence, Diane’s quirky, personal fashion sense was allowed to remain and become Annie’s own. McArdle worked closely with another fashion icon, Ralph Lauren, to design the costumes, including Annie’s signature polka-dot tie. Thus, fashion inspiration for the ages was born. Annie Hall’s continued influence on fashion is seen in many places today, from the trendsetting looks sported by Agyness Deyn, Kate Moss, and Mary-Kate Olsen, to collections by designers such as Marc Jacobs and Boy by Band of Outsiders. The Met Costume Institute Gala Is Tonight!

imageThe Met Ball is tonight, and in addition to the excitement of who’s wearing (and bringing) who there’s the event’s theme, “The Model as Muse: Embodying Fashion,” which explores the industry’s perception of beauty and the power that models have in influencing the fashion of their generation. This year’s event is chaired by Marc Jacobs, and co-chaired by Kate Moss, Justin Timberlake, and Anna Wintour, and the models and icons featured in the exhibit include Naomi Campbell, Linda Evangelista, Shalom Harlow, Kate Moss, Amber Valletta, and Iman, among others. You can see the exhibit for yourself at the Met’s Tisch Galleries between May 6th and May 9th. And now for the gossip– Karl Lagerfeld: not attending! Kate will wear Marc! Coco is *gasp* not going with Zac Posen! It’s going to rain! Naomi Campbell might not show! Oh my… I must stop reading Page 6. For updates go to Modelinia!

Which Brown-Eyed Beauty Has The Freshest Spring Makeup Look?

imageWith spring romantic comedies and action-packed blockbusters hitting the theaters and the Tribeca Film Festival in full swing, it may not be awards season anymore, but that doesn’t mean that the red carpet is the least bit lonely! And while the warming weather certainly has us on the lookout for flirty styles and considerably shorter hemlines waltzing down the paparazzi parade, the season has also been lending itself to refreshing beauty trends that are just as note-worthy as the shrinking ensembles (after all — celebs always have to be ready for their close-up!). With nude and natural toned-down glossy lips, thick lashes, and edgy-yet-classy metallic liner, this season’s red carpet arrivals are demonstrating that when it comes to making an attention-grabbing appearance, it’s all about the eyes. For example, the effortlessly seductive Kim Kardashian looked alluring at Tribeca’s “Wonderful World” premiere with lush lash extensions, and Julia Roberts’ charcoal-rimmed liner brightened her pretty peepers at The Film Society’s Gala Tribute. Influential International Style: Heidi Klum

imageOh, to be Heidi Klum. “The Body” / Victoria’s Secret Angel / Project Runway host / wife of Seal / mother of soon-to-be four is also an international style icon. Her quirky personality, signature gams and sense of humor all lend herself to being loved worldwide. She seems to bridge the gap between uniquely European, but also possessing the intense charm of an American girl. Want to dress like Heidi? Well, sure, it helps to have the body that’s sold countless bras and panties around the world, but following a few rules, you can achieve Heidi status. 1) Don’t be afraid of color. Heidi loves rich color, and fabulous texture. 2) Work it in heels. Give yourself the couple inches every woman needs! 3) Dress for success. Dresses are the best tool to show off a woman’s frame. Apply liberally. And 4) Be yourself. Are all of her choices fashion-forward? Questionable. However, you can imagine why the girl who yodels also makes some of the wardrobe choices she does. The Original Cosmo Girl Gets Literary Treatment

imageWhen we think of high-powered fashion magazine editrixes these days, our first thought usually goes to the icy, bobbed dynamo that is Vogue’s Anna Wintour (or the fictional version played by Meryl Streep in “The Devil Wears Prada”). However, a splashy article in this morning’s New York Times titled appropriately “The Original Carrie Bradshaw” reminds us of a woman who is Executive Realness personified: Helen Gurley Brown. Remember her, folks? She penned “Sex and the Single Girl” in 1962 and it quickly became a cultural touchstone. It was the first book to speak frankly about sex, careers, and other feminine issues that had long been hidden away in kitchen cupboards and laundry bins. Helen went on to become the editor of Cosmopolitan magazine in the mid-1960s. For nearly three decades, she helped set the agenda for American women before ending her run at the magazine in 1997. While at Cosmo she created the idea of the “Cosmo Girl” — a free-spirited, intelligent woman who enjoyed fashion, culture, and business as well as sex and fun. And in a new book, “Bad Girls Go Everywhere: The Life of Helen Gurley Brown,” Jennifer Scanlon argues that Helen is an often overlooked feminist icon and pioneer of women’s rights. (Side note: we just LOVE that title.)

Go Edgy-Chic Like Emma Roberts

At the 14th Annual Gen Art Film Festival “Lymelife” Premiere, budding fashionista Emma Roberts rocked a fabulous look that combined uptown glam with a downtown-cool edge. Emma demonstrated stellar mixing and matching, teaming a black sequined Monique Lhuillier tank with light-wash bell bottom jeans from Current/Elliot. She made the look more night-time appropriate with a pair of black pointy Stuart Weitzman pumps, a beaded Chanel necklace, and a sleek pea-coat to fend off the outdoor chill. I absolutely love how this look is sexy, but in that very rare, effortless sort of way that makes it super sleek as well. Check out my SLIDESHOW to get this fabulous look!

Video Style Steal: Keri Hilson Amps Up Her Accessories In “Knock You Down”

R&B songstress Keri Hilson first stole the show with her supporting vocals on Timbaland’s hit track “The Way I Are,” and now with her chart-topping debut album In A Perfect World… she’s making a name for herself as a leading solo artist and has top hip-hoppers like Lil Wayne and Kanye West backing her own tracks. With her club-banging beats and confident lyrics (she even calls out Beyonce in one of her tunes!) Keri is not only climbing the ranks as a singer, but as a style maven as well! An avid Melody Ehsani and CC Skye fan, Keri lives for classy sexiness with a funky flair, and her seemingly endless array of accessories in her latest “Knock You Down” video has me loving the edgy-urban look she has going on. While I certainly don’t condone sneaking around behind multiple fellas’ backs (but hey, go on with your bad self), you have to admit — the girl looks fierce doing it! Click “See Video” to watch Keri in action (with Kanye and Ne-Yo!), then check out the slideshow to see how you can cop her decked-out look!
