New York Fashion Week Spring/Summer 2010: Alice + Olivia

imageAlice + Olivia is always high on my must-see list during Fashion Week. The amazing clothes, the fabulous Payless shoes that prove affordable can be fabulous, the creative set-ups and designs (previous themes have been “Alice in Wonderland,” “Breakfast In Bed,” “Hippie Queen,” etc), and the celebrity sightings– it’s always a blast! To present the Alice + Olivia Spring 2010 collection, designer Stacie Bendet transformed a raw New York City gallery space into a fashion presentation/rock concert. Inside the vast space were three sections with a group of models in each. The looks were absolutely stunning, as always, and combined uptown chic with a downtown edge and an underlying Parisian-chic sensibility. Stacey set out to represent girls “predicating sexuality, cleverness and charm,” drawing inspiration from the women who influence her. This season also marked the unveiling of the collaboration between A+O and jewelry line Erickson Beamon (I seriously want all of it!). Soft colors such as pale pink, soft purple, and neutrals were amped up with sexy silhouettes and gorgeous draping while other looks teamed ultra-femme styles with more edgy and androgynous pieces. Pretty prints, sequined frocks, slouchy pants, and structured jackets were also standouts, especially this one look that teamed an ultra mini slinky sequined dress with a short sleeved metallic jacket– amazing! Celebs Strut Their Stuff In Catwalk Creations

imageThere used to be a clearer distinction between models and actresses. You could do both, but usually one skill set was stronger than the other. These days, though, many of our favorite celebs are gracing the covers of magazines and pages of photo-shoots in positions that used to be mainly reserved for the models. Celebrity faces are seen all over the place now in venues and mediums outside of movies and movie promotions. Being seen and celebrated for their art (music and movies) was one thing, but now people are turning to celebs for style sense and fashion tips. Logically, celebrities are answering by stepping out in trendy ensembles taken straight from the runway and parading themselves around for their adoring public. Diva superstar, Beyonce rocks this sparkly Balmain dress and it looks a lot better on her than it does on the model! Check out the slideshow for more celebs strutting their stuff in runway creations! Which ones looked better on the celeb than the model? You be the judge!

Lindsay Lohan Working for Emanuel Ungaro?!

imageLindsay Lohan finally has a job… in fashion! And we hope it will involve more than leggings and self-tanner. We’re not really sure how we feel about Lindsay Lohan’s fashion sense (errr), but apparently Emanuel Ungaro trusts her as he just allowed her to sign on to his company as artistic advisor. One thing is for certain, Ungaro is going to get a whole lot of attention having Lindsay working for them. And Emanuel knows this — even if we don’t love it, we’ll definitely be paying attention to it. We can’t wait to see how the new Ungaro line looks. Do you think people will take well to it or do you think they’ll avoid anything bearing Lindsay’s name? Get more details over at Limelife!

Stylehive’s 2009 MTV Video Music Awards Fashion Roundup!

imageThe 2009 MTV Video Music Awards were full of things to talk about- an inspiring, amazing dance-filled tribute to Michael Jackson? Check. Lady Gaga in multiple insane getups? Check, check. Kanye not having control of his mouth yet again? Check… how rude. And who could forget Taylor Swift’s adorable subway station performance of “You Belong With Me,” Beyonce’s hip-shaking “Single Ladies” show, Pink’s trapeze acrobatics, and, yes, the “New Moon” sneak peek? It’s given us plenty to blog, talk, and tweet about, but let’s not forget the outfits! Sparkly and short seemed to rule last night, but looks both dramatic (Gaga) and demure (Swift) stood out just as much, if not more. Click the slideshow to see our favorite looks from the VMAs! Rumer Or Rachel: Who Wore Her Stella McCartney Blazer Better?

imageFashionistas who invest in a Stella McCartney piece are probably looking forward to an outfit that’s sexy, stylish and unique… Unfortunately, when you’re fashionable and famous, it’s not rare to find someone spotted on the red carpet wearing the same thing! But you can’t really blame the actresses who were inadvertently playing “twinzies” for the day — both Rumer Willis and Rachel McAdams looked hot in their Stella McCartney Lace Noir blazers, and both succeeded in making it their own at their respective events! Rumer wore hers at the “Sorority Row” premiere, belted over a pair of tight black dress pants and suede pumps, while Rachel rocked hers overseas at the Deauville Film Festival, tucked under a high-waisted skirt with black peep-toes. Both chic red carpet looks, but who wore it best? Vote below on which actress you think did the Stella blazer more justice.Photo Credit: PR Photos

Video Style Steal: Rihanna & Her Boys “Run This Town,” Street Warrior Style

imageAfter all the relationship drama and Hollywood hype she’s had to deal with in the past year, Rihanna is back — and she’s not coming quietly. In Jay-Z’s latest single “Run This Town,” also featuring Kanye West, RiRi makes it clear that she’s armed and ready for the spotlight, stronger and fiercer than ever. The politically-charged video was filmed in New York’s Fort Totten Park and depicts a chaotic mob revolt, representative of a more literal take on the song’s title. While an exact replication of Rihanna’s video get-ups may send more than a few quirked eyebrows your way, you can take her militia-style costumes as inspiration in perfecting your own look as a style soldier. CollegeCandy Shows How To Jump On The High-Waisted Skirt Trend!

imageLike most of you, I am a [recently graduated but not willing to accept it] college student who would rather dish out money for fashion than food. But sometimes, like in a recession (or when I’m really hungry), that doesn’t work out so well. A girl’s gotta eat (and look fabulous), right? Which is why I was having some serious issues lately. You see, I am in love with the whole high-waisted skirt look that I see on celebs like Lauren Conrad and Amanda Bynes. It’s slimming and cute and I loooove it. But I can’t justify spending a good chunk of change on a skirt that will be out of style in 6 months when I have 10 perfectly fine skirts lining my closet. So I decided to figure out a way to turn what I already got into what I want. Turns out, it’s not that hard to make your own high-waisted skirt. Even for crafty rejects like myself. Jump over to the CollegeCandy blog for the quick & simple step-by-step!

Stylehive Predicts Cycle 13’s Top 3 Before ANTM Even Starts!

imageFinally, the shorties get their shot at the title! If you’re like me and have been counting down the days to the premiere of America’s Next Top Model’s most talked-about season yet, then I probably don’t even have to tell you that Cycle 13, which features models who are 5’7″ and under, starts tomorrow night at 8 on the CW. And while I’ll be the first to admit that I was pretty terrible at predicting last season’s top 3 (well, one of them made it!), that doesn’t mean I’m going to give up! After carefully scrutinizing the contestant profiles on the CW site, along with a very thorough analysis of past winners (thanks to nonstop ANTM marathons on various cable channels), I think I’ve made a much more educated guesstimation of this upcoming season’s Top 3. Check out the model bios and interviews at The CW, then click “Read More” to view my predictions and see if you agree! Photo Credit: CWtv.com

Hot In The Hive: Jee Vice Heated Sunglasses In Orange Jubilee, As Seen On Sarah Jessica Parker

imageWhenever I try and shop for sunglasses, I always see the usual black or tortoiseshell frames. Yawn! And at the risk of getting unfriended by all my best girlfriends on Facebook, I’m actually not the biggest fan of Sex and the City. But that doesn’t mean I don’t look up to Carrie and the gang for some major fashion inspiration especially for sunglasses. So on Sarah Jessica Parker’s first day on the set back in her role as Carrie Bradshaw, she wore a fabulous purple tiered dress, some killer Louboutins, and orange shades. Whoa… orange shades? Leave it to the Sex and the City wardrobe department on finding a pair of orange sunglasses that look absolutely chic instead of looking like something my 7 year-old cousin would wear. Jee Vice has been around since 2003 making sunglasses the likes of Anne Hathaway, Salma Hayek, Katherine Heigl, and Lindsay Lohan have all been seen wearing. So grab a pair of Jee Vice sunglasses and get ready to put your best face on for the paparazzi!

Price: $170
