Neverend Clocks

kitsune-funderburg1.jpg kitsune-funderburg2.jpg

Kitsune Noir today launched the first in a new ongoing series of laser-cut birch wood clocks. The premier edition features the decorative patterns of artist and wallpaper designer Dan Funderburgh created in collaboration with the Montreal-based design/build shop (and CH contributor), Furni. Funderburgh’s design takes on the idea of a traditional Bavarian cuckoo clock, with a typically subversive twist—just a couple of sticks of dynamite lurking under the clock face.

Each design in the Neverend series will be made in limited editions of 88 clocks. The Funderburgh clock sells for $198 in black and natural from Furni.

The Marion House Book

Newhouseprojectkitchen

It was the first time this morning that I visited The Marion House Book, but will certainly not my last visit. The author of this great new blog is Emma and she lives in my old town Toronto. I really liked these before and after images of her kitchen…might have something to do with painting our home ourselves last weekend 🙂 I wasn’t sure about black and bought a very dark green color but looking at the black convinced me that black is definitely an option for another wall. Thanks Emma for sharing these images of your beautiful kitchen with us!

The Poppies …and the Jury

Perhaps you already saw it but I’m one of the Jurors for The Poppies … feels a bit like the Grammys, Emmys or Oscars don’t you think…well at least that is how I feel about the The Poppies … a Virtual Award Event and like Jan said: "an appreciation and acknowledgment of the handmade community; a light and fun process to celebrate the Handmade!"Thepoppiesbanner

Of course I’m honored to be one of the jurors and to be in such impressive company ::… Lisa Solomon , Kate Bingaman-Burt, Faythe LevineVictoria SmithAndrea Corrona Jenkins and Jen Anisef….

Going through all the categories is truly a fun task … i get to see so many new and talented people and although it will be hard to give my final votes please know that the juror selection is in addition to the "The People’s Choice" winners, which you can be part off, so please go and vote!

Attempting the Impossible: Catching All 85 Chicago Architecture Tours in Just One Year

0114chitour.jpg

If you live in Chicago like this writer, or even just visiting every once in a while, you’re probably constantly saying to yourself, “I should really get out and see architecture stuff.” There’s so many tours and exhibits here, but unfortunately one always returns to, “But who has the time?” The answer to that question is Jennifer Lucente, who works for the Chicago Architecture Foundation and has decided to attempt to take all 85 of the tours offered by her organization within the year. It all falls under the banner, “Around Chicago in 85 Tours Challenge,” and Lucente will be documenting all of it on all the major outlets, from a (not yet very busy) blog to her (thus far very active) Twitter feed. Here’s a quick description:

From January through December 2010, I have challenged myself to take all of the Chicago Architecture Foundation’s 85 tours. I’ll be walking, biking, busing, boating, and Segway-ing all around the city and surrounding areas learning about the rich architectural history of Chicago. All of the tours I’m taking are open to the public so come on out and join me!
