Tote A Messenger Bag As Your Chic Fall Carry-All

imageEach year, usually right before fall, I get a hankering for a new handbag, regardless of how recently I purchased my last one. They’re just so fun to build outfits around and I hate to hinder my creativity, you know? Right now I’m all about messenger bags– I’m picturing one crafted out of buttery leather, maybe a tad distressed for that vintage look, and preferably in a neutral hue- chocolate brown, khaki, even dove grey would be lovely. The style is undeniably classic and yet alluring at the same time, and the brand is nowhere to be seen (with the exception of a small amount of indicative hardware, in some cases). Larger ones add a seriously urban element to business ensembles, while smaller types lend effortless appeal to androgynous and feminine styles alike. My personal favorite way to wear one of these schoolboy-esque satchels? Strapped across the body, over none other than a flouncy party dress. Get More Value with a Convertible Handbag!

imageHandbags are my true weakness. Okay, and shoes, and accessories, okay FASHION. But handbags, I love. To get more mileage out of a bag purchase, I’ve been looking to buy one of the fall’s convertible bags. You know, something that goes from shoulder to tote, or hobo to hip-slung with a quick switch of a strap. I love the color, texture and bohemian simplicity of the Kooba tied convertible hobo bag. And I feel like I could honestly carry this Foley + Corinna convertible small leather tote in red almost every day. It goes from shoulder to tote so flawlessly, and the scale is just adorable. DKNY Supports Charity CITYarts In New York City!

imageDKNY has designed a tee with a cause, cleverly dubbed the “Chari-Tee.” DKNY’s Chari-Tee is an interactive program between DKNY and those who love and wear it! The tee retails for $65 and benefits a menu of NYC organizations. Each hangtag lists five NYC charities to which you can donate. Once you’ve decided on the organization, log on to dkny.com and select your choice. DKNY will then donate a portion of the proceeds from the sale of your Chari-tee! It’s a fun, cool way to send instant love to NYC! In addition to the Chari-tee, DKNY has produced eight different eco-friendly printed totes featuring artwork of eight NYC students, created for the CITYarts “Portraits of Peace” initiative. There are 5 of each style — 40 unique bags in total. The totes are only $25 each with all proceeds going back to CITYarts, but they’ll only be available at the DKNY store on Madison Avenue, so make sure you head over if you’re in the area! Hot In The Hive: Beyond Yoga Graffiti Tote

Created by Beyond Yoga designer Jodi Guber and graffiti artist Andre Charles, they are perfect for going to the gym, beach or just bopping about town. These limited edition bags are to raise awareness and support The Art of Elysium, a non-profit that encourages working actors, artists and musicians to share their craft with children living with serious medical conditions. You can choose from one of the 4 slogans: “I am beyond…” grateful, blessed, loved or lucky. Not feeling any of these? Create your own to reflect your personality like Rachel Bilson (“I am beyond DRAMA”) or Cameron Diaz (“I am beyond HOPEFUL”). The possibilities are endless!

Khirma Eliazov: The New “It” Bag?

imageI firmly believe that the best fashion finds happen randomly– especially when you’re not looking for them. So it was that I milled around a Vogue fashion week party several months ago and started talking to a stylish woman who carried one of the most beautiful and unique handbags I’ve seen in a while. When I inquired, Khirma Eliazov replied that she’d designed the bag herself as part of her eponymous line of leather accessories. She then invited me to her fashion week trunk show, where I proceeded to be completely bowled over by further pieces rife with her signature top-quality leather and delightful attention to detail. Erma, as she’s known, credits her first job out of college as an accessories assistant at Mademoiselle with what she laughingly calls her “obsession” with accessories. After stints as a stylist, brand manager, and freelance market editor for, among others, Harper’s Bazaar, Elle Accessories, and, yes, Vogue, she decided to follow her heart and create a collection that is “beautiful, timeless, different, and, most importantly, functional.
