Lambo Logic

The Lamborghini design language seems to get wilder and wilder with each new release which is why it’s no surprise they attract party animals more often than businessmen (i.e. Justin Bieber). Some of us, however, are purists when it comes to the brand and think back fondly to the subtler days of the Diablo and Countach. For us, the Querderro is a reminder of why we started liking the Golden Bull to begin with.

The design is an evolution of the classic brand language that also integrates new visual elements. The structural core of the concept is a lightweight and extremely rigid carbon fiber monocoque shell. Surfaces have precisely defined, sharp edges and crystalline volume.

The side profile is characterized as a sharp wedge and defined by a deep air intake. Butterfly doors swing upwards and inwards (duh).

The familiar low and sharp front includes diffusers for better aerodynamics. Two large intake provide air for brake cooling and emphasize the width of the car from the front view.

The rear pillars act as deflectors, directing air over the engine lid and towards the retractable spoiler to increase stability and traction while also cooling the engine. Aesthetically, the rear end is characterized by the slim, deep lights and diffusers.

Car-igami!

Designers Ludovico Campana & Seunghun Jeong’s submission for the 2014 Michelin Challenge Design competition tackles the issues of spacial consciousness and multi-functionality with a transformable design, inside and out. To save valuable space, the carriage folds flat and turns vertically, making it easy to park and store. But what about the interior? Automatic inflating seats that are completely configureable to the user’s requirements. See another hidden feature —>

In its upright position, a digital screen is revealed and can be used for advertising, entertainment or an unlimited number of other applications!

Split Up Truck

GelenK is an exploration in transformable trucks for both long-distance and urban transport. The vehicle features a “split driving mode” where the trailers are not towed, but turned into individual autonomous vehicles. The system makes it easier to navigate crowded urban areas and move through small streets and narrow corners.

Drive… or don’t!

A winner of the 2014 Driven/Undriven Michelin Design Challenge, the AKA24 concept goes beyond the brief to design a vehicle that switches between user-control & autonomy; it reimagines the entire transportation system as we know it. Operating on a maglev-like system of tracks, the vehicle moves to the protected side walls vertically in “undriven” mode & back to the center lane for the user-controlled “driven” mode. Set your destination & kick back in the multi-position cabin or take the wheel to navigate your own way!

A Cabbie-less Cab

Self-driving cars are now a reality with companies like Google finding success in their driverless programs. We often associate the idea with how it affects us and our personal vehicles, but the question remains as to what it means for public transportation. The BOT concept is one glimpse into how autonomous mass transit of the future might look… and it’s freakin’ adorable! Check out the vid to see why it took home 1st place in the 2014 Michelin Design Challenge!

How a regular guy invented a life-saving car option

Every year, numerous children die because of heat stroke from being left in parked cars. It’s unnecessary and avoidable, so when Opel challenged drivers to imagine their own car options, a warehouse worker by the name of Kenny Devlieger came up with an ingenious solution for giving vehicles an added layer of safety for protecting children. See how it works —>

Gabriel is a small key ring that is connected wirelessly to a pressure-sensitive mat made to fit every kind of child seat. Whenever the driver leaves the car with the child seat still occupied, an initial warning will sound. From that point on, the mat constantly measures the temperature inside the car. If it rises above 28 degrees Celsius, the heat alarm on the key ring will go off, signalling the driver to return immediately to the car.
Gabriel is an option that could benefit everyone. That’s why it was conceived in a way that it’s compatible with any vehicle, of any make or model.

EV for Equality

For years, cars have been retrofit with systems that allow disabled individuals to drive, but never before has an entire car been adapted from the ground up for those with mobile disabilities. The first of its kind, the EQUAL concept extends the compact car experience to disabled individuals in an easy-to-use, stylish vehicle that blurs the lines between what is and isn’t possible. Mouthwatering Maserati

Maserati is the quintessential Italian sports tourer legend, so trying to perfect what many believe is perfection seems like a daunting task. But that’s precisely what Alexander Imnadze seems to have done with his stab at the trident brand: the Bora. It’s forward thinking for today’s Maserati, but a realistic, if not recommended, step in the right direction for their future design language. We’re only getting a taste of the exterior here, but we already like it more than the GranTurismo!

Balancing Act

While most vehicles operate on 2 or more wheels, the Infinitlar concept vehicle IS a wheel! The autonomous, hydrogen powered vehicle is an extraordinary vision of future personal transportation we could be using 30 years from now. It aims to provide users in densely populated urban areas the creature comforts of home while they travel. It’s more like a gyroscopically stabilized “room on wheels” that delivers you from point A to point B so you can focus on other things like work or relaxing!
