Dans la continuité de Filmography 2010 et 2011, la jeune Genrocks a eu l’excellente idée de prendre 300 films sortis en 2012 et de nous proposer d’en retrouver des extraits autour d’un montage du plus bel effet et très bien pensé. Une véritable réussite résumant une belle année de cinéma à découvrir dans la suite.

A l’instar de l’agence Reuters l’année dernière, voici une compilation des images les plus marquantes de l’année 2012 sélectionnées par l’AFP et proposant de couvrir tous les sujets de l’actualité dans le monde. Des images impressionnantes et très touchantes à découvrir dans la suite de l’article.
La réalisatrice écossaise Lynne Ramsay nous propose de découvrir cette vidéo intitulée « Swimmer ». Réalisée pour les Jeux Olympiques de Londres de 2012, cette vidéo en noir et blanc a été produite Warp Films et propose une direction de la photographie très réussie signée Natasha Braier. La 48ème édition de Veolia Environmental Wildlife Photographer of the Year Competition avec le National History Museum of London ont annoncés les vainqueurs du « 2012 Wildlife Photography ». Voici une sélection révélant le talent de différents photographes capturant la faune et la flore avec beauté et poésie.
It was a wise comment when someone pointed out that design competitions are a means to measure one’s creativity. They give us that edge that makes us stand apart from the rest of the herd. So does this mean we need to participate in any and every competition? No! Contrary, we need to be selective and choose ones that are capable of give us that cutting edge; something top-of-the-line like red dot.
We were at the 2012 red dot award: design concept winners presentation ceremony in Singapore and this is what we saw:
The evening kicked off with Ken Koo, President red dot Asia, welcome all the guests and winners. The impressive LED backdrop reinforced the red dot branding and the soon enough Dr. Prof. Peter Zec went onstage to address the crowd. The one thing that struck us about Peter’s welcome speech was his passionate commitment to empowering young designers gain their foothold in the industry. He rightly says, that when you are fighting for yourself, and looking for ways to get that edge, a red dot award acts as handy ammunition in your portfolio.
Quite a contrast from the somber proceedings of the red dot award: product design, the concept design ceremony is filled with spunk and antics by the winners on the ramp.
We saw precious poses, couples kissing, Gangnam Style dancing, traditional clothes and loads of sexy attitude! The walk up the ramp is getting creative by the year! Rumor has it that almost every year red dot has to turn down requests from romantic boys who want to pop the question to their girls while on the ramp! As Ken Koo puts it, it is everyone’s night so one smitten couple cannot steal the show! We agree.
Bombay Sapphire created a special red dot cocktail for the evening and designers were seen enjoying them! The night clearly belonged to the young guns! We wound up the party a little past midnight, bringing home heady memories of the ramp walk. However like Peter said in his speech, the evening equally belonged to those who dared to dream, come out of their comfort zone and participate in such a prestigious design competition. Yes, the non-winners were thanked for their contribution as well.

It was a glittering night that had all the elements of a perfect evening. The trophies shone bright, the smiles were flashy and young designers sashayed the red carpet with the finesse of a celebrity. October 19th saw the unveiling of the winners of the coveted red dot award: design concept in Singapore. It was an honor to be a part of the celebrations and festivities and be in the company of such creative people. Here is a look at fifteen concepts from the Best of Best list, that took our fancy; including the top-award – the red dot luminary!
red dot award: luminary – Float Base Station by Huang Hsin Ya & Huang Pin Chen
Float Base Station is a temporary emergency communication station.
Add Up by Prof. Fan Cheng Kuei, Deng Pei Chih & Hsieh Tsai Ni
Add Up is a cash conversion system for a traveler that puts small change to good use.
AIRTUBE Earphone by Seok Jiwon, Lee Hyunjoo & Hwang Sunmi
Airtube Earphones are automatically activated by air pressure when they are placed in the ears. Similarly, the music is automatically switched off when they are removed.
The amoeba is able to adjust its shape to suit its environment. In AmoeBAND, this quality was applied to the typical adhesive bandage to enhance its adaptability.
Zipper is a flying indoor camera nd recording device.
Pojagi Net is a multipurpose dry-compression mosquito net that was designed to address the problem of malaria.
NEST by Yoon Jeho & Zhang Yifan
NEST is transforms from an air mattress to a boat via the manipulation of its internal hooks and ropes.
Rotaress Pouring Pot by Leong Suki & Huang Zhirong
With its rotating handles, Rotaress Pouring Pot offers a simple, low-tech, and very effective solution to the common problems associated with draining a cooking pot.
Sense is a unique bathroom tap that activates and sets the water temperature based on its detection of the user’s hands.
Kitchen Icicle by Park Ji Yeon & Jo Eun Hee
Kitchen Icicle is a set of magnetic-tipped cooking utensils that bring a touch of fun – and convenience – to one’s kitchen.
JARPET by Zhang Di, Zhao Tianji, Ma Yinghui & Cui Minghui

Ever wondered how does a 3D printer work or a do a chair and a wicker basket have in common? The answers are there for all to learn at explore at this year’s Łódź Design Festival. Commencing on the 18th of October, the design festival will run for a full ten days and has the underlying theme of AWARENESS. Currently in its sixth year, the exhibition is split up into three sections: AWARENESS, must have and make me!

The must have poll is intended to promote Polish design, and the best-designed products have been selected to be showcased at a joint exhibition.
The make me! contest and the accompanying exhibition give young designers from all over the world the opportunity to show their ideas to the public, to establish contacts with companies and to enter the market. The winner of the main prize of PLN 20,000 will be announced at the gala event!

I completely resonate with Edward Tufte’s philosophy that ‘good design is a lot like clear thinking made visual.’ A lot of times what we can’t express in words, because we lack linguistic skills or have communication barriers.
