CollegeCandy Wishlist: Denim, Or Sweats?

imageWhen it comes to many things in life, including fashion, I’m a fan of odd, quirky things that leave people asking questions. No, I’m not going to start wearing fairy wings like one of the girls on What Not To Wear, but I did pick up a pair of pants last week that totally fit the bill. They were a pair of skinny denim-like pants by Fragile that I scored at T.J. Maxx for $17, but normally retail for $29 (sweet!) at Hot Topic, a store I haven’t stepped into since my friend’s goth days in high school. Anyway, the pants look like jeans, but function somewhat like sweatpants in that you basically pull them on and button the single button at the top. I would say that they are comparable to denim leggings, although I prefer these Fragile pants since they look more like jeans and aren’t as skintight. These pants are definitely the answer to every college girl’s fashion dilemma: chic sweatpants? That you can wear to class? And not look sloppy? I think it’s time we all made a run to Hot Topic! Head over to CollegeCandy for more wishlist-worthy wardrobe staples!

Eric Proulxs Lemonade Takes a Look at Peoples Post-Advertising-Layoff Lives

Following that last post, we turn to what looks to be a great documentary about the positives that come from losing one’s job in the creative circuit. It’s Lemonade by director Eric Proulx, who talked to just a small handful of the tens of thousands of people who have lost their jobs in advertising over these past could of rough years. Looks like it has the possibility to be something great, considering both the subject matter and the talent behind the production. Here’s the trailer:

Workspace of the Week: Home school room

This week’s Workspace of the Week is Lance Lin’s homework studio:

I love how this workspace is clearly designed for students. The Ikea Expedit Bookcase is a fantastic resource for learning resources. The zones of this room are clearly defined and you can tell that it is used productively every day.

Want to have your own workspace featured in Workspace of the Week? Submit a picture to the Unclutterer flickr pool. Check it out because we have a nice little community brewing there. Also, don’t forget that workspaces aren’t just desks. If you’re a cook, it’s a kitchen; if you’re a carpenter, it’s your workbench.

It Takes Time

On Sep 91′ mom, dad, my sister and me traveled to Europe. It was my first time.
I remember going to Murano and having a fancy pants glass maestro turn a molten white/red glob into a snail right in front of my 17 year old eyes.
Must have taken 45 seconds to do or so. He let it cool, handed it to me while saying that since the cool-down had been fast (it usually takes more than a day) that it would probably break soon.
It’s 2009 and I still have it. The glass somehow found a fragile balance. It’ll break some day///

Absolut Rock?

It’s not every day that a bottle of vodka arrives in the post here at CR towers. It’s an even rarer occasion that a bottle of vodka turns up dressed in a tight fitting, studded leatherette jacket…

A press release informs us that this is Absolut Vodka’s “Rock Edition” which will launch in Selfridges on 1 September before rolling out to top supermarkets and display cabinets at premium bars. Now don’t get me wrong, I’m a massive fan of TBWA’s long-running bottle-shape-celebrating campaign for Absolut. The Absolut bottle has, as a result, reached iconic status – and has starred in brilliantly innovative adverts around the world.

But in the harsh light of day / our office’s meeting area, here’s how the bottle actually looks in its PVC suit.

Absolut Rock? If I hadn’t read the press release, I would have assumed that this was the Absolut Gimp edition.
