Well, it looks like the walk-in designed by Carey Ekstrom of Illinois-based Closet Organizing Systems, above. Ekstrom’s “Old World” design took top prize in the sub-18-feet category of Closets Magazine’s 2009 Top Shelf Award competition earlier this year. (Man, there really is a magazine–and design competition–for everything!) I’m getting kind of depressed just looking at it–that little less-than-18-feet box is nicer than my whole friggin’ apartment.
Under the name Mintselect, Seoul-based designer Jongchul Kim has developed an insanely deep portfolio of product concepts done under his Mintpass brand.
It takes a lot to tickle us, but his Mint Timepiece 5 Progress Bar clock had us at “Hello.” (Dvice succinctly describes the clock as “Day loading, please wait.”)
The Mint Timepiece 6 Finger Language Clock tells you the time via robot hands and sign language:
The Mint Multi-tap is a clever expandable powerstrip:
The Mint Light 4 Rollight is a portable battery-powered strip of LED lights that can be rolled into a flashlight, or unrolled into task or mood lighting:

Hanna-Barbera turns 70 this year, and although the skies are, alas, still free of Jetsonian flying cars, the Paley Center for Media is celebrating in a Grape Ape-sized way. “Yabba-Dabba-Doo! A 70th Anniversary Salute to Hanna-Barbera” explores the history and creative legacy of limited animation pioneers Bill Hanna and Joe Barbera, who first collaborated in 1939 on Tom and Jerry cartoons. An exhibition on view through September 10 at the Paley Center’s Los Angeles outpost is a treasure trove of cartoon history, including Iwao Takamoto‘s first doodles of the Scooby-Doo gang, early designs for The Jetsons, and photos from voice recording sessions of shows such as The Flintstones and Johnny Bravo. If there is any justice in the world, Laff Olympics, Space Ghost, and Snorks are also prominently featured. Meanwhile, Hanna-Barbera’s big 7-0 is also a perfect opportunity for us to call your attention to this clip of Snagglepuss, as portrayed by Bobby Moynihan on Saturday Night Live‘s Weekend Update. It’s terrific, hilarious even.

Jewelry designer Tasha West‘s inventive Astro cuffs sleekly interpret the twelve zodiac symbols, subtly revealing the wearer’s celestial personality.
Beginning with a sketch of the symbol, the New York-based designer twists its form into a 3-D rendering to create the sculptural accessory. While shown in sterling silver, the cuffs come in a multitude of metals—including gold, brass, bronze and copper.
At two inches wide, the cuffs make great statement pieces, but their matte finish and continuous lines keep them from overpowering wrists. Having created custom jewelry for Erykah Badu over the past several years, West acutely understands the art of designing knockout pieces that blend seamlessly with a look.
Prices vary from $238-298, depending on the metal and all are available from the Tasha West website.
