Vintage Fashionistas: Let’s Talk Trigere

imageIt’s been said that Pauline Trigere never tried to dress a woman that she didn’t understand. And we’ll just say that she understood us well. Possessing what has been described as an “awe-inspiring” cutting technique, she was still demonstrating her skills to fashion students at FIT just months before her death at the age of 93. This three-time winner of the Coty American Fashion Critics’ Award was known for her exquisite tailoring and pioneering use of wool in evening wear. But her extraordinary skills were also evident in daywear and suits and she wasn’t afraid to create with more touchy-feely fabrics like chiffon and silk also. And since her clothes were made to last, we have been left with an abundant supply of varied vintage Trigere treasures. Just click the slideshow to see a selection.
