Time with a Twist of Orange, Please

Conceived for use by the blind but stylish enough to appeal to a broader market, the Nike Citrus watch’s spiral form stretches to fit any wrist size and hints to its zesty inspiration: an orange peel twist. To tell time, the wearer simply touches the tactile, concave face to feel for the hour and minute hands. Unlike many other products for the seeing-impaired, this one can be universally appreciated and mass-produced to keep unit prices low!

“I wanted to design a simple watch with an interesting surprise” – Marcel Wanders

Dezeen Watch Store: in this movie Dezeen filmed in Milan, Dutch designer Marcel Wanders describes the two different sides of the Dressed watch he designed for Alessi, which is available to buy now from Dezeen Watch Store

"I wanted to design a simple watch with an interesting surprise"

Wanders‘ Dressed watch has an outwardly understated design, but features an embellished decoration on the reverse side of the case that is hidden when the watch is being worn.

"I wanted to design a simple watch with an interesting surprise"

“We made these very simple, beautiful watches with an interesting surprise,” Wanders explains. “The design of the watch is pretty straightforward: the band makes a really simple connection to the core of the watch and we kept the dial very simple.”

"I wanted to design a simple watch with an interesting surprise"

However, the hour hand of the watch features a decorative “little twist”, Wanders goes on to explain, before turning the watch around to show that “on the back there is a fantastic decoration, which is very hidden.”

"I wanted to design a simple watch with an interesting surprise"

Wanders hopes that his design will stand the test of time. “[We made] something that is, I hope, an evergreen, something that lasts forever,” he says. “Because I think that’s what watches are, they are about time.”

Death of the Wall Clock

The BIBO watch (name derived from the Indian name Biboswan meaning Sun God) is a response to the modern work week, which renders wall-mounted home clocks useless when no one is there from 9-5. The entire face unit is removable and can be left on the wrist band, or placed in a tabletop dock where it projects the time onto a wall using a built-in mini-projector! However different, both the strap and dock are stylistically connected by sharing the same striking Madhubani geometric art pattern.

Clearly Cool

The Ghost watch earns its namesake for the completely clear material that composes the entire band. The flexible display reads the time in simple, minimal, dot-matrix style. Colorless and cool, it’s complimentary to almost any outfit. As for how it works… well, we’re not sure… no do we care as long as we can have one!

A Flex Phone Would Be the Best Phone

The concept of smart-watches is hot right now, and even though there are a lot of designs floating around, none have kept us from thinking “yeah… but you still need a phone.” The Limbo, however, is quite different. It seems designer Jeabyun Yeon has discovered the missing link between our transition from handheld smartphones to smart-watches. Design-wise, the idea wasn’t to stray away from anything that might be remotely phone-like, but instead to merge the benefits of both. Why choose one when you can have both?!

Big Pixels are IN!

This cleverly designed Pixel wristwatch is the latest in a trend of oversized squares, using them to denote the time in an easy-to-read yet striking way! At any given time, just 3 squares are displayed on the face, moving about to indicate the hours and minutes while the center square blinks with each passing second.

Mortal Time

Time is a great reminder of the fact that there are some things unexplainable about this world we live in. For example faith, belief and hope, all come to us at a time when we need them the most. To signify the importance of god and faith, we have here the Crux Watch.

  • Hour hand turns around imaginary circle. When it turns it does not touch visual parts of the Cross.
  • Minute hand is long and goes to the end and represents hope.
  • Hands are deep inside the watch, so do we have to be inside ourselves to be able to find Faith, to find ourselves.
