New 351 Series by Uniform Wares now available at Dezeen Watch Store

Dezeen Watch Store: the 351 Series is the newest collection from London-based watch brand Uniform Wares.

There are three watches in the 351 Series; each is a contemporary reinterpretation of a classic timepiece and includes a pared-down PVD-coated ceramic bezel.

The Oxford blue concentric regulator rings on the 351/BR-01’s alabaster dial are reminiscent of the enamel work utilised in seventeenth and eighteenth century British pocket watches. The watch is completed with a barrelled rubber strap that is designed to replicate the shape of a traditional leather strap. Other features include brushed aluminium hands and hour markers, and a stainless steel case.

The 351/BR-02 takes style cues from the 1950s silver screen era, pairing a polished chamfered bezel with a matt black ceramic inlay. The timepiece’s refined aesthetic is reinforced by a calf-leather strap, made exclusively for the brand by a Bavarian strap manufacturer that has been producing watch straps since 1931.

The 351/BR-02 is also the first Uniform Wares watch to incorporate a day and date function.

The final watch in the 351 Series is the 351/RG-01. The timepiece includes a brushed rose gold bezel that is complemented by coordinating hour markers and a textured sub-dial at the six o’clock position. The watch is finished with the same leather strap as the 351/BR-02.

Each watch in the collection also incorporates a domed sapphire glass lens, designed to prevent glare and add clarity. The scratch-proof glass allows light to be evenly circulated around the dial, ensuring the timepiece is easy to read.

The 251 Series incorporates a variety of classic colour palettes, including the popular gun grey with a tan strap and three options that we have back in stock once more: satin gold with a black strap, gun grey with a taupe strap and brushed steel with a walnut brown strap.

The timepiece takes features from mid-century gentleman’s wristwatches and applies contemporary details, including square baton-style hands, raised hour markers and textured dials.

Dezeen Watch Store: London watch brand Uniform Wares has launched the 104 Series, which is available now in black, blue and orange.

The 104 Series is an update of Uniform Wares’ popular 100 Series collection. The new series retains the straightforward simplicity of the original 100 Series design, but now incorporates Swiss-made 5-jewel Ronda movement, bringing the 104 in line with the rest of the Uniform Wares collection.

Contemporary touches including hand-applied batons, slimmer hands and raised hour markers update the design, resulting in a wearable, unisex style. The watch is finished with a rubber strap and hardened mineral crystal lens.

The 104 Series is characterised by colour blocking and texture; each timepiece incorporates subtly different shades and contrasting materials on the case, bezel, dials and markers.

The new 203 Series maintains the references to engineering gauges and industrial equipment that inspired the design of the original 200 Series, but features updated design details and a new refined mechanism.

Unlike the new 152 Series models, Uniform Wares decided to include a larger, more powerful Swiss movement in the 203 Series. “We’ve actually increased the movement size in this one instead of slimming it down”, Uniform Wares co-founder Oliver Fowles told Dezeen. “We’ve managed to fit a larger movement with a larger date wheel in, so the date is a lot more prominent in this calendar watch”.

“Because we’ve been able to use a stronger movement that has a lot more power, we weren’t required to have the counterbalance on the end of the second hand,” Fowles continued. “This means that we’ve been able to remove the tail and make the watches even more in line with the engineering gauges they’re based on.”

With its raised hour markers and sturdier, more durable strap, the detailing on the new 203 Series brings the range in line with the 300 Series, Uniform Wares’ premium chronograph watches. “They were designed in tandem with the 300 Series that we launched a few months ago,” Fowles explained. “They are kind of the smaller brothers of the chronograph collection.”

The watch is available in three colours with varying textures and finishes. The best-selling rose gold option now features a satin brushed grey face with a polished ticker that matches the rose gold case.

The more understated gun grey finish comes with a dark grey satin brushed face and hands in gunmetal grey.

The 152 Series remains true to the elegant design of the previous 150 Series, and is the slimmest in the Uniform Wares collection at only 6.05 millimetres in depth. “We wanted to make the design of the watch even more simple and refined,” Oliver Fowles of Uniform Wares told Dezeen. “We reduced the case size by a couple of millimetres and fitted it with a new tapered strap, which gives it a much more slender silhouette on the wrist.”

“We wanted to keep the traditional gent’s dress wrist watch aesthetic, but also make it a little bit more appealing to people with smaller wrists and the female market” he continued.

To keep the profile of the watch as slim as possible, Uniform Wares replaced the Japanese movement featured in the original 150 Series with a more compact Swiss movement, which also offers improved accuracy and reliability.

The watch is available in three different finishes and each has a new strap style with a padded core, creating a softer, more comfortable fit.

The first model has a black Italian calf leather strap and a polished case, the second has a striking brushed finish and features bright blue hands and a light goatskin strap, while the final colourway has a rose gold case and a walnut-brown calf leather strap.

The blue hands on the grey model reference the colour created when steel is heat-treated, which Fowles explains was “quite a traditional form of decoration back in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries, when watch hands were made out of steel as opposed to aluminium”.

Uniform Wares has also introduced a regulator ring to two of the 152 Series models. “It’s the first time we’ve introduced a regulator ring, which is a feature taken from the old pocket watches used by physicians” Fowles explained. “It makes the minute indexing a lot more prominent and it gives the watch a bit more of an engineered feel, instead of being just a standard dress watch”.
