Vogue Australia Celebrates 50 With Illustrated Covers

imageWhile Anna Wintour has been at work making her magazine “recession-friendly,” the international Vogue editions have been heading in an artsier direction lately with innovative collaborations and special editions all around. Now, Vogue Australia has also decided to do something a bit different. For its 50th anniversary, the magazine is putting out a commemorative issue (September 2009) featuring the work of famous fashion and celeb illustrator, David Downton. In four separate covers, Downton sketched Cate Blanchett in vintage styles that recall the days before photography. It’s a great reminder of the history behind the magazine, as well as fashion’s journey through the years. To read more, head on over to The Frisky!

Enter To Win Workout Outfits From Body Language!

imageLet’s face it- no matter how much you tell yourself that you love to work out, there are days when the treadmill looks like a torture device. Honestly, thirty minutes on a conveyor belt going nowhere isn’t exactly the best motivator (though come to think of it, watching Paula Deen dump a Costco-sized package of butter into a pan on the attached television screen kind of is- anyone else work out while watching Food Network?). But if your exercise ensemble consists of high school gym shorts and a ratty college tee, you may be wearing the source of your less-than-stellar outlook. In other words, get some cute gym clothes! Body Language sportswear is a line of exercise apparel unlike any other- it’s comfortable, functional, and actually sexy if you can believe it (and once you see what they’re giving away, you will). Think along the lines of flattering camis, tops with sexy strap details, fold over shorts, and colors that don’t scream 1985. They’ve even been featured on Desperate Housewives! We’ve teamed up with Body Language to give two lucky winners the best workout clothes they’ll ever own- read on to find out how you can score a set for yourself!

Lemondrop’s Top 12 Things You Should Never Wear to the Office!

imageWe all know it can be tricky to judge what constitutes appropriate work attire. (See old episodes of “Ally McBeal” for reference.) We like to use a version of the expensive-meal rule: Just like you can’t afford something if you have to ask how much it costs, if you’re not sure whether you can pull off a work look, you probably shouldn’t risk it. While shiny gold lame leggings might constitute “power dressing” at American Apparel, in general you should steer clear of these office dress-code violations — especially number one on our list.

12. Leggings
If you’re cold, wear tights. If your dress is too short, put it back in the closet. If you don’t feel like wearing pants, well … tough. Leggings lack the polish and professionalism of standard work slacks or a nice pair of Wolford tights. Toss in the fact that they’re generally unflattering (hello, cankles!) and make you look like you’re headed to a Jazzercize class, and you’re better off calling in sick.

11. Boobs
OK, we get it. You’ve got a mind for business and a body for sin. But trying to emphasize the latter in a revealing tube top or strapless dress could backfire. “If you show too much cleavage, people will not take you seriously,” says Atlanta-based image consultant Peggy M. Parks of The Parks Image Group. “You always want to bring attention to your face so people will look at your eyes and listen to what your mouth says without being distracted on the way up. You need to dress professionally to show that you are there for business and you mean business.”

10. Shorts
First, ask yourself this: Do I work at Hooters? If the answer is no, step away from the booty shorts and flesh-toned tights. Shorts don’t scream “corporate titan.” And no, we don’t care how hot it is outside. That’s why God created air conditioning.

Stylehive’s Stylescopes Encourage You To Raid Your Boyfriend’s Closet!

imageOkay, so it’s pretty apparent that the “boyfriend”-inspired trend doesn’t actually look like it came from your man’s closet, but you gotta admit that it’s a pretty cute concept given the comfy, slightly oversized fits that are still flattering to your feminine physique. And the best part about the misnomer? You don’t actually need your own ball-and-chain to cop the looks. So whether you’re single or attached, the stars say you’re destined to rock the boyfriend look this week, be it a blazer, a pair of shorts, or even a zip-up hoodie that fits slightly better than the one your dude left at your place. Libras can keep it casual or even go pro in a boyfriend jacket and Sagittarius ladies will stay comfy-cool in some denim shorts, for example. Just be careful not to wear too many oversized items at once — you don’t want to look like you raided your dad’s closet instead! Check the slideshow to see the week’s pick for your sign!

H&M Kids: What’s Hot For The First Day Of School?

imageI have to admit I was pretty lucky in terms of not having to endure any particularly embarrassing first day of school outfits growing up, with the exception of the first day of fourth grade cowgirl outfit incident- I promptly insisted on choosing my own outfits from that day forward. Needless to say, had H&M been around at the time, the process of back to school shopping and outfit planning would have gone much more smoothly- and stylishly! Let’s face it, the “my kid looks cute in anything” saying doesn’t apply to humans past age six, and elementary schoolers can be a discerning crowd. Kids need a few great back to school outfits to carry them confidently through the upcoming fall season, and H&M is where it’s at! Get a head start and vote below for your favorite H&M back to school look!

Who Was Most Chic She-Geek At This Year’s Comic Con?

imageIf you’re not familiar with Comic Con, despite what the media and the fangirls may have misled you to believe, it is not actually a weekend-long festival dedicated to shirtless film clips of Robert Pattinson and Taylor Lautner (believe me, I would have been there if it was). The annual event, which took place in San Diego last weekend, has traditionally served to honor the best in comics, action figures, superheroes, and anything sci-fi and fantasy in film and television… and boasts the biggest concentration of nerds in one place next to a Star Trek Convention (I say that with love). However, ever since the recent rise of R-Pattz, Comic Con has gained a much broader following among the preteen female fanatic demographic, much to the disgusted dismay of faithful convention-goers who preferred the event before it was tainted by anything “Twilight.” But the event wasn’t all vampires and pocket protectors. Sexy Hollywood starlets like Scarlett Johansson and Megan Fox helped add a little style sense to the arena while promoting sci-fi flicks “Iron Man 2” and “Jennifer’s Body,” respectively. But who held up the fort most fashionably for the girlie-geeks? Vote below on who you think made the most supernaturally sexy appearance. Photo Credit: PR Photos
