Hot In The Hive: Bounkit’s Amethyst Cuff, As Seen On Leighton Meester

imageAlthough it’s only in its third season, it’s hard to remember a time when there was no “Gossip Girl” in our lives. There were no full-fledged fashionista high-schoolers with wardrobes that would turn Victoria Beckham green with envy, or crazy and twisted love stories that make you wonder … when are these people actually in class? Who did we turn to for juicy, over-indulgent guilty pleasures and lust-worthy fashion items that we knew weren’t affordable but put it on the shopping list anyway, along with numerous other unattainables? I cannot, for the life of me, remember what we used to do on Monday nights at 9pm. Well, their costume department has done it again, and this time it’s with a gorgeous, sparkling bracelet that is elegant, sophisticated, youthful and not exactly cheap. However, the Amethyst Cuff by Bounkit Jewelry is the kind of jewelry that, although flashy and eye-catching, is still feminine and demure enough to wear with a whole variety of outfits. A flowing tops and skinny jeans for daytime would look amazing topped off with this brilliant piece, while a black dress and sky-high heels would stand out even more. Either way, there is no denying the beauty and appeal of this Bounkit cuff, and how much we wish we could just snatch it off Leighton Meester’s dainty little wrist and make a run for it!

Price: $560
Who Found It: idabone was first to add the Bounkit Jewelry’s Amethyst Cuff to the Hive.

Ultra Velvet for Daytime Drama

imageVelvet is not just for evening anymore. These ultra modern velvet dresses are just as appropriate for day as they are for night. The look is simple and clean in gorgeous shades and graphic patterns. From burnout designs to pleats and geometrics, velvet dresses are a pretty way to infuse a bit of night time luxury into your wardrobe. This classic fabric has never looked so modern! Pair with simple but bold accessories. We love the shades of black and crimson for fall. Minimal with an avant guard edge, the Alexander Wang Burnout Velvet Combo Dress ($420.00 at Shopbop.com, top left) is simplicity at its best. The dress features a jersey and velvet burnout asymmetric panel at the shoulder. From Diane von Furstenberg’s Grano printed velvet wrap dress ($345 at Net-a-Porter) features an abstract all over animal print in striking jewel tones. I love the three quarter draped sleeves, low v-neck and self tie wide fabric belt. It’s a pretty look for daytime with opaque tights and pumps; remove the tights for cocktails and pair bare legs with some strappy platform sandals.

Coquette Is Lovin’ The Zipper Look!

imageEarlier in June I posted some cute outfits and accessories with zippers. Well the zipper trend is even stronger this fall, making its way to even more clothing and accessories. I love this Mason by Michelle Mason Zip Shirtdress ($407 at Shopbop) to pair over leggings or tights and this simple Loeffler Randall Double Zipper Top (On Sale for $120.40). Both say stylish without going over the edge in punk. As for accessories, these grey Ruffle Zipper Pumps are beyond adorable… and if you have any money left after splurging on all these cute finds, keep your change in this Colorblock Zipper Wallet! Children in High Heels — Yes or No?

imageOK, we’ve sat idly by while people pierced their infants’ ears, painted tiny faces with makeup and lipstick, and took their small children along on Mommy and Me spa days. But we have to draw the line at tot-size high heels. No one should have to totter in uncomfortable footwear before their time. (Especially when your mom is taunting you with sensible flats !) What do you think: Are Suri’s high heels and fashion-plate look cute as a button, or freakin’ weird? Check out the full article and leave your opinion by clicking over to our friends at Lemondrop!

Stylish (And Philanthropic) Eyeglasses Fit For Fashionistas

imageYou can feel good about getting your new eyeglasses from GlassesUSA because they’re not just in it for profit, they want to help those less fortunate too. Any eyeglasses that are returned to GlassesUSA aren’t restocked like in other optical stores, but are donated to organizations around the U.S. that sanitize them and distribute them to people all over the world who need glasses but can’t afford vision care. If you’ve worn prescription eyeglasses for any length of time, you know that seeing properly is not just a luxury but a necessity. EyeglassesUSA is committed to making sure that as many people as possible have correct vision. The company has two offices: one in New Jersey, and the other in Israel. Prescription eyeglasses are produced at both sites in order to bring the newest available styles to customers as quickly as possible. One of the benefits of new glasses (besides better vision!) is that a new pair of glasses is almost like a makeover. The right eyeglass frames can take your look from edgy to professional to fashion forward, and eyeglasses are much more fun to try on than most things. Wardrobe Wish List: JCrew’s Slub Cotton Crystal Necklace Tee

imageOkay, I, like most girls, love to dress up. I love zipping up a sexy dress, painting on some dramatic cat eyes, and slipping into some sky-high heels. But I also have those weekends when I am so burnt out, running from class to work to the gym, that I rather curl up in my pajamas and hide under the covers all weekend then spend an hour putting together an outfit. That’s why I couldn’t be more ecstatic that t-shirts are formal this fall. Whoever came up with this idea is a genius and my new favorite person. There are so many options (these tees are literally everywhere, which means you can find them in any price range), but my favorite is the Slub Cotton Crystal Necklace Tee from J Crew. It’s ultra classy and chic, while still being unbelievably comfortable and wearable at the same time. Sure, the price tag is a little steep ($49.50 to be exact), but considering the amount of times I’m going to wear this thing (when I finally get my paws on it), it will be totally worth it. What makes it even better is that with this one addition to my wardrobe I have enough new outfit combos to get me through every weekend in fall. Click over to our friends at CollegeCandy for more!

Get Edgy With The Diesel Home Collection

imageDiesel may be best known for their fabulous jeans, but it looks like they expanding their empire into home decor too. In particular, their home textile collection caught my eye. From eye-catching sheets, studded towels (whoa), and not your grandma’s sofa covers, they definitely don’t like like something you bought from Martha Stewart! The clever tromp l’oeil prints are super realistic and give the illusion that the pillow are tufted, and the sheets appear rumpled. You may have to explain to your parents that you did make your bed when they visit and I’m having a hard time imagining how I’d use a studded towel to dry myself off… but hey, at least it all looks cool! I can imagine die hard Diesel fans, rock stars, and edgy home decorators like Kelly Wearstler gravitating towards this collection. Available in select Diesel stores and other boutiques, check out their collection in my slideshow!

Wardrobe Dos And Don’ts With Celeb Stylist Phillip Bloch

imageCelebrity stylist Phillip Bloch has no wish to see you in head-to-toe neon. “Please do not wear pop colors as an entire outfit, I beg of you!” he warns, the command made less severe by the winking cheekiness in his tone. “A hot pink gown could be a hot pink mess!” It’s his patented way of giving fashion direction with honesty and a dose of sassy sugar that has made Bloch one of the premiere celebrity stylists in Hollywood with a client roster that reads like a Hollywood honor roll. Halle Berry? Check. Jennifer Lopez? Here! Drew Barrymore? Present. And the A-list goes on and on. In my recent interview with Bloch over New York Fashion Week, we also talked about the fashion “dos” every woman wants to have in her closet. His favorites? “I love the big, comfy boyfriend jacket but then it’s all about the silhouette–you want something slim and sexy underneath. You do not want to be in something baggy under there.” What else? “I think the little bump shoulder is great, definitely the statement necklace, and I much like a high boot. I’m not the biggest fan of the little shoe-boot, especially when you wear it with a skirt and you see that big gap in-between [the ankle and the top of the shoe]–it cuts the leg!”

Phillip also shared with me the best designers we’re not wearing: “I’m a big fan of Zac Posen. He gets the hype but not everyone gets to wear him. Also Jason Wu, Alexander Wang, Erin Fetherston, Thakoon, Rodarte–and if you can’t buy their clothes, look at what they’re doing and get inspired by them!” Phillip also gave me the skinny on the concept of “fat-free dressing” using Flexees, Maidenform’s affordable shapewear brand (which Phillip dished is what Lady Gaga wears when she performs). “They’ve made a lot of the pieces so you can actually wear them as outerwear, too, and they come in great fashion colors.” And Hivers, if Phillip’s left you wanting more personal styling advice, look no further: enter to win a Red Carpet Makeover by Phillip from Flexees and Star Magazine. Check out more on Phillip at his site and remember to stay away from monochromatic neon (you’ve been warned).
