Couture In The City Loves Rachel Roy’s TransFOURmer Coat!

imageJust in time for fall, the new TransFOURmer coat from the Rachel Rachel Roy collection is not only super chic, but smart and thrifty too! As seen in Real Simple magazine, the Transfourmer coat is one coat that can be unzipped and worn in 4 different ways. Remove the bottom for a chic motorcycle jacket look or take off the sleeves and bottom for a twist on a vest. The inside is lined with Rachel’s signature graffiti print, for an unexpected pop of color. View the video that demos all of the different looks the coat transforms into, then check out Couture in the City for more thrifty fashion treasures!

Wardrobe Jackpot: Boring Stores, Reinvented!

imageThis recession totally sucks. But, if you ignore the unemployment rate and rising cost of beer, some good is definitely coming from it. And one of those positives is the fact that the plummeting sales of retail chains has caused them to re-evaluate their brand and reinvent themselves for fall. Suddenly stores that used to make me feel nauseous (boasting window displays stuffed with mom jeans and fugly tablecloth patterns), actually have some adorable stuff that us college girls would actually consider wearing. For the closets of fashionistas, this is great news. Now there are a dozen more stores that we can peruse online during class and drool over on our weekly treks to the mall. (Plus now when my mom calls and tells me she’s going to Ann Taylor to pick up a suit jacket, I can ask her to pick me up a cute skirt to add to my care package!) Chucks Never Go Out Of Style!

imageIt’s really strange to go out now and see that Converse Chuck Taylor high-tops are still being worn by school kids. I think of Chucks as the shoe that sort of defined Generation X, and to see that they’re still so popular is kind of nice. Chucks are great because not only do they look cool, they can be adapted to go with just about any casual outfit, and to say that they’re comfortable is the understatement of the century. You even see some people pushing the look to the limit, wearing their Chucks with formal wear. There’s really no end to what you can do with these shoes. The good thing is that these days, you can get Converse Chucks in all the standard colors, but also in some interesting new styles. So whether you’re into classic looks, or rule breaking, there will always be a pair of Chucks out there for you. Click over to our friends at TheFind for more on these cool kicks!

Feather Report: New iPhone App To Help You Get Dressed!

imageFashion + Weather = Feather. My friend Melisa of Feather Report and The Lil Bee has just launched the Feather Report iPhone app. Look to it as your own portable, personal style consultant. You’ll never have to look out the window and wonder, “What am I gonna wear today?” It’s rainy today in SF and this is the outfit that was picked out for me. I love it! What’s great is that each of the items listed in the outfit for today are linked so you can purchase them directly from your iPhone. If I like today’s outfit, I can easily save it to my favorites with a press of a button. I love to get exposed to new pieces of clothing and how to put them all together. Using a GPS weather tracker, Feather Report serves up a new outfit to your iPhone each day, based on your specific location. Outfits are categorized based on body types, occasions, and weather patterns. You can also search for outfits based on your individual needs such as Date Night, Out with the Girls, etc. If you’re traveling, get weather forecasts for your upcoming trips. Sounds cool? WhatsWear Has Discovered A Way To Tweet In Gold And Diamonds

imageTwitter just became a whole lot more relevant to me. For today I learned that Twitter can now be something I wear around my neck… in gold.. and diamonds. Survival of the Hippest is a hot new accessories line inspired by the same social networking system that caused Miley Cyrus to rap and LL to fight even more publicly with Samantha Ronson. Using your TwitterName (or “hashtag” comment if you know what the hell this is), SOTH creates beautiful jewelry — fairly reminiscent of the name necklaces made popular by Carrie Bradshaw. They are custom-made out of sterling silver, 14k gold and [drool] diamonds, and can be placed on a necklace, a key chain, a bracelet, an anklet or a pin. As SOTH pointed out, wearing your Twitter ID around a visible body part will helpfully point you out to your virtual friends, who they note “may not recognize you from your proper name or tiny Twitter picture”… seriously, a SOTH piece isn’t just fashionable, it is your gilded token to making actual flesh-and-blood friends! Also, we must mention these necklaces and bracelets work perfectly as a fun layering piece or as a unique present for your friend who has everything. You can even show these Twitterific pieces to your grandchildren while explaining the Twitter phenomenon. Think about it, they’ll most likely be vintage in just a couple decades! When you’re not busy tweeting, don’t forget to visit our friends at WhatsWear for more unique design finds!

Karmaloop Introduces The New Chris Habana Collection

imageCHRISHABANA’s new collection is now available at Karmaloop.com. One of my favorite jewelers, CHRISHABANA is serious about not taking things too seriously. The New York based jewelry line takes dark gothic elements (like crosses, skulls and spikes) and twists them around to become iconic, pop talismans. Since its debut in 2004, the designer himself has maintained a playful yet subversive approach to jewelry design. Favorites from the collection include The Spike Earrings, The Cross Triangle Earrings and The Cage Diamond Necklace. For the full collection, check out Karmaloop.com.

CollegeCandy Presents 8 Under $20: Urban Outfitters!

imageI have a love/hate relationship with Urban Outfitters. I fall madly in love with everything on the racks, but hate how much they charge for shirts, skirts and dresses that usually fall apart after a few go-rounds in the washing machine. But then I fall in love again when those trendy little Urban employees stock the sale racks with all that gorgeous goodness. The Urban sale section might be one of the only ones I’m willing to elbow, shove and push my way through. They have some of the best deals around on some serious cuteness, much of it $19.99 or less! Here are some of my favorite pieces that are all under $20. The best part: you don’t even have to leave the comfort of your couch or tempt yourself with the rest of the overpriced items en route to the sale section. The dress on the left will look fantastic with some tights and a skinny belt around the middle. Mix it with an oversized cardi or sweater coat and you’ve got a super cute outfit for a night out. Pair the tunic on the right with some leggings, a cozy sweater and some knee boots and look put-together yet totally comfortable for class. Click over to our friends at College Candy for more!

The Gentleman’s Emporium

Looking to the past for your fashion inspiration? Head on over to the Gentleman’s Emporium for entire outfits, plus a fashion gallery:

“Step into our Victorian gentleman’s portrait gallery to get costuming hints and sartorial cues from the gentlemen themselves. Our fashion timeline highlights certain details specific to each decade, however you will see that the basics of men’s fashion remained remarkably stable. A gentleman would often choose a style that suited him and stay with it for many years, thus you will see frock coats as well as tail coats and town coats (sack coats) throughout the period. When considering your own outfit, remember that there are a variety of styles which are all authentic, and you should feel free to take a measure of poetic license in combining historic authenticity with clothing that suits your own personal preferences.”

Warm up With Fur Embellished Winter Boots!

imageAfter making an appearance on the runway at Marc by Marc Jacobs, the fur boot is back. You may recall the mukluk trend from a few seasons ago. Yes, it’s back and it is part of the larger fur trend we are seeing on faux fur vests in particular as well as handbags. So it make sense, but not sure if I am ready to embrace furry winter boots again this year. What do you think of these fur festooned boots? Will you buy them this winter? The style seen on the runway for fall 2009 is the Marc by Marc Jacobs Faux-fur lace-up boot (bottom right, $350 at Net-a-Porter). A completely fur covered boot this will keep your toes nice and toasty during the snowiest of days or perhaps on the slopes apres ski? The gray faux-fur-embellished boots feature black canvas criss-cross laces at the front, silver-tone eyelets and a black rubber sole to prevent slippage on snowy urban sidewalks or while relaxing in the ski lodge. Another style is Givenchy’s Fur-Front Ankle Boot, (top right, $1150 at Saks.com) and obviously not too appropriate for snowy streets, but perhaps a snow-free night out on the town. These rabbit fur embellished booties with a stacked heel will look perfect with black leggings or skinny jeans.
