Jennifer Lopez Talks Motherhood, Heartbreak, And Her Career In February’s Elle

imageJennifer Lopez is most definitely back, and if you’d like some proof, you can find it in next month’s Elle issue where the actress, singer, and mother reveals much more than what her sexy cover shot would suggest. In the issue the star talks motherhood (she gave birth to twins Max and Emme almost two years ago!), betrayal (she’s had her fair share, she says), and what it was like hosting a dinner for Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor, saying “She didn’t realize what she was going to symbolize. And it’s always scary to be thrown into it — that’s what I felt like when I did Selena. You’re thrown out there, and all of a sudden you’re not anonymous. You are now known. And that’s a lot to handle.” Sounds like this star is accustomed to handling quite a bit, and gracefully at that. Look Casually Chic In A Hoodie Dress!

imageFor many women, wearing a dress is always a good choice. Dresses are comfortable, easy to accessorize, and always help the wearer look that much more polished and put together. They’re decidedly feminine, no matter the style or detailing, and save time from having to find a top and bottom that matches and flatters. You still may be worried that dresses just aren’t your thing, and wearing one makes you feel a little too much like a girly-girl, and you’d give them more of a chance if only they were a little more your style. Your thoughts have been heard because dresses these days are getting just that! The addition of hoods was all it took to add the an extra little something, especially the larger, draped kind that almost shrouds you in an air of mystery and will definitely make people look twice. Hooded dresses are unique and trendy, but are still basic enough that you can add your own accessories and flair to make it a truly one of a kind look that is all your own. Plus, the hood adds extra coverage against the cold weather and looks just as good bare-legged with pumps, or in opaque tights and boots! Check out the slideshow to see some favorite hooded dresses and find one that matches who you are!

Hot In The Hive: Studded Whale Ring

imageThis rhinestone studded whale ring encompasses all that we want in a piece of jewelry. The shine and sparkle will undoubtedly catch your eyes while the whale shape is quite charming and delightful, with just the right amount of whimsical, offbeat appeal. Despite its large size, the ring is a versatile enough to wear daily (as a signature quirky piece, perhaps?), or as the focal piece at a more dressy affair. Let’s not forget about the amazing deal this ring really is too! At less than $12.00, we had to do a few double takes to make sure we weren’t reading the price incorrectly!

MJ Puts The Petal To The Metal With A New Messenger Bag

imageThis has got to be one of the sweetest handbags I’ve seen recently from Marc by Marc Jacobs. The Petal to the Metal leather satchel ($200 at Net-a-Porter) comes in a shade of tobacco called newsprint, yet its style shouts indulgent cupcake from Magnolia Bakery. Overall this is a charming bag because of its compact size. Clearly it is an example of the affordable whimsy and wit so clearly defined and redefined again each season at Marc by Marc Jacobs. The Petal to the Metal leather satchel is a pint-sized messenger bag adorned with a small bird on its front flap. The front flap is accentuated with a zipper detailing around the edge; although not functional, it adds an interesting texture and outlines the shape of the bag. Inside is a pouch compartment lined in an eighties-inspired geometric twill print. The closure is secured by a magnet on the outside and a small non-functional strap loops under the gold-toned dove. I am not sure why the purely aesthetic strap does not cross over the entire bag; it does dilute the look of the design a bit. The dove is embossed with a tiny circle so small you’ll need a magnifying glass to read the Marc by Marc Jacobs logo. The long strap and makes this messenger bag perfect for carrying only your most basic essentials. Overall I do like the look of this bag and it would make a perfect bag for a post-holiday trip abroad or a charming gift for aspiring fashionista teen. This whimsical bag is also the ideal accessory for adding a bit of eclectic fun to your casual weekend look. Pair with an oversized tee and/or blazer, skinny black leggings and some oxford flats.

imageOmelle is known for their fashion-forward yet completely on trend shoes (remember our Omelle giveaway?) These ‘Fiori’ heels are no exception! Sleek and sophisticated with their suede fabrication and smooth front, these heels add edge to basic outfits. Versatile enough with just the right amount of modern style, these heels are a must for any shoe lover. While Omelle shoes tend to lean a little towards the pricier end of the spectrum, their timelessness and wearability make them a smart fashion investment. Another reason to love them? They’re edgy without being studded, bedazzled, or zippered in any way. How refreshing is that?

Hot In The Hive: Unearthen Digital Gold Watch in Gold

imageCall me old fashioned, but I love wearing watches and seeing other people wear watches too! Whether it’s either a digital watch with calculator straight from the 80s or even a vintage men’s Rolex, I love them all. I thought I’ve seen them all, but of course, I was proven totally wrong when I saw an incredible jewelry line called Unearthen. They take one-of-a-kind vintage watches and add a custom-cut pyramid crystal on top. The best part is that the wind up watches still work. I’m not sure if you’ll still be able to read time over that huge rock, but you’ll sure look fabulous. Whether you wear it alone or stack it with other metal bangles, this showstopper will go with the most casual or dressy outfits.

Vintage Fashionistas Carry Their Cash In Style

imageSmart fashionistas know they should always calculate Cost-per-Wear (CPW) when deciding if a potential purchase is a good value. For instance, a top quality winter coat might cost more initially, but it should wear much better and last for far more years than its inferior quality cousin. So what at first glance seems like the bargain choice could actually cost you more to wear over the long run. Get it? CPW is an especially important consideration for those pieces you use frequently. And one of those frequently used pieces that is often given too little attention is your wallet. It never ceases to amaze me when I see a totally chic gal decked out perfectly from head-to-toe pulling out a ratty old wallet from a designer handbag. So why not grab one of these fab vintage wallets with price tags that will leave quite a few extra bills to tuck in the billfold and lower your CPW to a few pennies a day?
