Can’t Wait For The Golden Globes? Check Out Our Red Carpet Gown Predictions!

imageLast week’s People’s Choice Awards only served to whet our anxiousness for the arrival of awards show season, so if you’re as excited as we are to kick off the red carpet’s busiest time of the year, you’ve gotta be counting down to the Golden Globes (2 days!!). While I can’t even begin to predict who will sweep up the majority of the trophies this year (Glee! Glee! Glee!), I have started to speculate on what the night’s leading ladies might wear. Rumor has it that stars are playing it safe by sticking to their signature looks… but maybe that’s just what they want us to think so they can sufficiently blow our socks off come arrival time! If I were to guess, Angelina Jolie will probably stick to her tried-and-true boring black dresses, and Marion Cotillard will show up looking elegant as ever in something beaded and strapless… but newcomers like Lea Michele and Zoe Saldana are a little harder to pin down. Of course, it’s very unlikely that any of the event’s A-listers would be caught dead in something currently available on the racks at Saks or Bloomies, but I think my picks are still a pretty good guesses toward whatever updated, hot-off-the-sewing-machine gowns they’ll end up rocking on the big night. Check the slideshow for my predictions!

Check It Out: This Season’s Houndstooth Is Funky And Feminine

imageThe pulled-together black and white check has been a favorite of ladies who lunch, schoolgirls, and men is suits. But not since Christian Dior showed his “New Look” collection has houndstooth had such a moment. The traditional houndstooth print is commonly black, white, and medium-sized, but with this season’s new houndstooth, all rules are out the window. Houndstooth is now shown supersized and miniaturized, in black and white or full on colors (try mini houndstooth for a ladylike look). Alexander McQueen’s collection focused on a showstopping version of the print, showing head to toe houndstooth and matching smaller houndstooth accessories. At Preen, the print took on a life of its own when matched with other black and white prints, lending an almost psychedelic look to the collection. Depending on how you style it, houndstooth runs the gamut between funky and feminine. See the slideshow for my favorite printed picks!

Label Love: Nanette Lepore Goes Edgy With OONAGH

imageNanette Lepore is best known for her sweet, feminine styles with just a pinch or sex appeal thrown in. Now they’re introducing an edgier, more versatile line of interesting tees and layering pieces for those of us who love Nanette Lepore’s usual array of fitted, tailored and embellished designs, but find them just a little too sugary sweet to suit our tastes. Oonagh by Nanette Lepore features pieces that are draped or have cutouts that add a more daring vibe. Billowing fabric, longer hems and fun stripes really amp up these would be basics, making them unique must-have pieces. Layer one over a pair of faux leather leggings and ankle boots to add attitude, or pair it with a flared skirt and ballet flats for a laid back, hipster princess look. Though we wouldn’t exactly call them cheap, they are much more wallet-friendly on the usual Nanette Lepore offerings and are the perfect way to be comfortable while staying chic. Don’t just take our word for it though! Click on the slideshow to see some of my Oonagh by Nanette Lepore favorites! And if you have any idea how to pronounce “Oonagh,” we’d love to hear from you.

Hot In The Hive: Cynthia Rowley Heart Rings Set

imageValentine’s Day is next month, but I don’t think you need the excuse of the lovey-dovey holiday to rock these super-cute heart rings by Cynthia Rowley. They come in a set of three — one copper, one sterling silver, and one vermeil — so you can choose to either keep them all to yourself for stacking… or dole them out as gifts to your various significant others (or best friends, whatever). Personally, the 3-in-1 set appeals to me as a gal who’s always losing her jewelry — I’ll still have two more when I drop one of them down the drain! And I wonder why no one ever buys me stuff from Tiffany’s…

Price: $90 for set of 3

TheFind Is Loving NYC designer Kara Ross’ Exotic Cuff Bracelets

imageCuff bracelets are an important accessory to take note of this spring for 2010! We love the edgy appeal of these extra wide bracelets. The addition of a cuff bracelet instantly adds a glam appeal to your look. New York based accessories designer Kara Ross has designed some of the most unique and modern cuffs on the market. We are obsessed with her combination of exotic skins including stingray and python. Ross is a certified gemologist and is inspired by her passion for contemporary art. Current fans of Ross’ dramatic accessories include Anne Hathaway and Thandie Newton. Some of our favorite cuffs by Kara Ross include the python pyramid cuff, (bottom, $410 at Net a Porter). The black python bangle is embellished with a 14k gold plated metal plaque for a bit an unexpected contrast against the black textured python. The Mixed-Stingray Cuff, (upper left, $380 at Bergdorf Goodman) is plated in 14k gold plated metal alloy. The reversed out honeycomb pattern is a unique study in contrasts. I love the use of two shades of cafe and black stingray. This cuff closes with a magnetic clasp. The extra wide Large Python Rhodium Cuff (upper right $326.90 at Vivre) is a lovely and lively bracelet that is sure to capture many compliments. The stunning purple python stone against shiny metal is set off by a sparkling amethyst clasp. Adorned with a cityscape motif and new this season at Far Fetch is the Plated Cuff, (middle right, $374.00). Featuring a cut out of a city motif in black stingray, the geometric shapes combine into a major accessory statement with this extra wide cuff that even Wonder Woman would covet.

Video Style Steal: Ke$ha Accessorizes Like A Rockstar In “Tik Tok”

imageI don’t know if it’s just the curly blonde hair or her overall party-girl appearance, but singer Ke$ha (yes, she spells it with a dollar sign) is already being referred to as a “drunk Taylor Swift.” One cursory listen to her just-released album Animal, however, and it’s pretty clear that her music doesn’t sound even remotely like Swifty’s, but considering her video for “Tik Tok” begins with her crawling out of a bathtub like the tiger from “The Hangover,” the moniker doesn’t seem so far-fetched. Whether you love her guilty pleasure dance tracks or just find them trashy, you’ve got to admit that the girl knows how to multitask with her outfit. After all, you have be pretty versatile to rock the same clothes from the tub to the street and out to the club (and probably back to the tub after that). Click “See Video” to watch “Tik Tok,” then take a look at the slideshow to see how can accessorize a simple tee-and-shorts combo to carry you through your all-day party! Photo Credit: MTV.com

Look Femme-Fatale Fierce In A Fedora Or Trilby Hat

imageDespite trudging through the past cold season seeing warm hair accessories on all the department store racks and adorning the noggins of snow bunnies everywhere, if you’re still not convinced that hats are really your thing, this latest trend in head-toppers may just change your mind. While fedoras and trilbies (almost the same — trilbies have a shorter rim) by themselves are reminiscent of a gun-toting lackey in a Humphrey Bogart film circa 1930, nowadays they’ve been helping the ladies channel their inner film noir gangster — just as far as looking mysterious, of course. Plus, talk about the ultimate quick fix for a bad hair day! Keep it classic with a grey felt version from J. Crew, or go fancy with it in sequins and velour thanks to designer Eugenia Kim. Since the trend is so rapidly rising — especially with the spring-friendly straw varieties — nearly everyone can rock a trilby, not just those risk-taking fashionistas who seem to be able to pull off everything. Check the slideshow for my 10 favorite fedoras!

Classic Black & White Gets A Modern Makeover!

imageThere is not a more classic color combination out there than black and white. No matter the occasion or place, black and white is tried and true and will always make an eye-catching contrast. Whether it’s a dressy outfit or a more casual ensemble, these two basic but still so important colors and a few choice accessories are the only necessities you need to make a statement. However, classic tried and true can sometimes mean cliche and boring and that’s one fashion faux pas that none of us want to commit! No worries, though, because black and white has gotten an edgier and more modern makeover that will take traditional to sensational with just a few new trends added into the mix. Want to give your classic blacks and whites a chic and new look? Just check out the slideshow for some ideas on how to amp up your black and white wardrobe!

Shoe Of The Week: Priscilla Sandal by Topshop Boutique

imageI’m still trying to decide if I think these Priscilla Sandals are super chic or straight-up scary. Let’s just say I’m really intrigued. But whether you love them or hate them, either way they made you do a double-take, right? They look like a fascinating breed of part peacock, part snake, part zebra (ZOMG striped platform!), a little Rihanna, something gold and purple… and some triceratops perhaps? Okay, I’m probably way off, but whatever the origin, the result is some no-joke fierceness. So if you decide that these are, in fact, a pair of platform heels you’d love to be caught dead wearing, make sure you’re prepared to do some serious strutting.

What: the Priscilla Sandal by Topshop Boutique
