Get The Winning Look From Our ‘Best Dressed At The Oscars’ Poll!

imageLast week we had asked you to weigh in on who you thought was the best dressed star at the Oscars! With over half of all the votes, the winner was Halle Berry!

In her sparkling champagne Marchesa gown and showing off her sculpted shoulders in a sexy sweetheart neckline, it’s easy to see why this beautiful actress was voted as the best. We love that she chose to let the gorgeous details of the dress take center stage and kept accessories to an elegant minimal.

We’re showing you how to get her look – from sultry smoky eye to glittering princess gown – so you can look like a star for your next fancy soiree (ok, maybe minus the frothy long train in the back, cute as that was …)!

Nom&Ada

Casual leather sandals that aren’t your grandma’s comfort shoes
nomandada-1.jpg

Bi-continental shoe company Nom&Ada is named after its two founders: The “nomadic” Rie Sawai in Tokyo and the “adaptable” Kimy Andrade in Portland, OR. The two met while studying design at Parsons in NYC and remained close friends after graduating in 2004. Five years later they met halfway between their two homes in Hawaii, and when inspiration struck over iced Kona coffee they decided to embark on a joint venture.

The duo recently launched their website and e-Boutique with their debut shoe, the “holoholo” moccasin. In Hawaiian, holoholo translates to “leisurely journey”—an apt name for the comfortable, casual riff on the classic T-strap sandal. Constantly on the move, Sawai and Andrade say they’re inspired by their travels and nostalgia, and the crepe-soled sandals are perfect for airline travel, with a pair of tights, or for impromptu hikes on a sunny weekend after brunch.

Despite the great distance between the two business partners, Sawai and Andrade do their best to collaborate as much as possible. “The time difference definitely kills,” they said—they even answer e-mails jointly—”but it makes the times that we do get to work together in the same location that much more special.”

There are also advantages to having a close friend halfway around the world, saying “It adds different perspectives to our technical and creative process, and gives us an excuse to travel!” They chronicle their finds and inspirations on their blog, which they also write together. “Even though the majority of our conversation is business nowadays, we find a moment or two to catch up on girl talk,” they said.

The crepe-soled leather sandals are handmade in Japan and come in black, white and camel—with the camel available with both white and flamingo stitching. They sell online for $260.

Celeb Poll – Red Carpet Casual

imageThere were quite a few movie premiers and award events this past week here in LA and that can only mean celebs dressed to impress! With the major awards shows having just ended, the recent red carpet affairs have been more light and youthful and feature shorter hems than the floor-sweeping couture gowns that we’ve benn seeing and we love it!

Amanda Seyfried made an appearance to the premier of her new film, Red Riding Hood, and looked beautiful in a plum hued, dolman sleeved mini with an array of sparkling statement necklaces. Nude ankle-strap heels and a tousled ‘do completed her look.

Model, Bridget Moynahan, kept it classic and simple at the Battle: LA premier in a black lace shift with a flattering v-neckline and basic black pumps from Louboutin. Loose curls and no added accessories kept her look elegant and fuss-free.

The sexy Sofia Vergara wowed at the NAACP Awards show in a strapless and shimmering black sheath with a sweetheart neckline. We love how the longer hem balanced out the bareness on top, while a high ponytail and peeptoe platform pumps kept the look young and energetic! We love the dripping diamond accessories too!

So who do you think looked the best? Take the poll below and then check back next week when we show you how to get the winning look for yourself!

Sequin Tops That Come in Many Different Styles

imageNow that holiday season is long gone, some would think sequin-filled evenings are a thing of the past. But we here at StyleList are firm believers in donning shimmery pieces all year long!

So follow the lead of designers, like Prada and Alice + Olivia, with tanks, blouses and jackets completely soaked with sequins. Either way you wear ’em, sequins are a trend that’s bound to stick around for a long time – incorporating them into everyday staples like cardigans and camis is a must!

Take advantage of the latest surge in shine and dress up a pair of basic jeans or opt for over-the-top glam and add a micromini.

Art & Fashion: Between Skin and Clothing

From Gaga to Gober, an exhibit delves into the intersections of art and fashion
skincloth1.jpg

Lady Gaga may be the most obvious example to date of someone blurring the borders between art and fashion, but lending intellectual clout to the concept, “Between Skin and Clothing” at Germany’s Kunstmuseum Wolfsburg demonstrates how this connection has been continuously evolving since the 1960s.

skincloth2.jpg skincloth3.jpg

Curated by journalist and fashion doyenne José Teunissen, the investigative exhibit shows how the two disciplines “share the same avant garde feeling” through the works of designers like Walter Van Beirendonck, Hussein Chalayan, Martin Margiela and more, set alongside pieces from artists such as Salvador Dali, Louise Bourgeois and Robert Gober.

skincloth6.jpg skincloth7.jpg

Stating that “fashion no longer expresses power, money and social class,” the exhibition studies fashion as an articulation of creativity and its influence on visual culture. Beginning with Andy Warhol and the Pop Art crowd and followed by Yohji Yamamoto and Comme des Garçons in the ’80s, clothing and runway shows are often abstract works of art more than necessary adornment.

First on display in Rotterdam at the Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen, the exhibition has been slightly adapted for its new Kunstmuseum location. “Art & Fashion: Between Skin and Clothing” runs through 7 August 2011.

Daily Obsesh – Bike Chain Bowl

imageA bowl is just a bowl … unless it’s not. Confused? Don’t be. Here’s what we’re saying – you can buy ceramic bowls (boring) to hold cereal and soup, but when it comes to keeping your keys or trinkets together, go with something that’s more interesting!

We like this handmade bowl made from a bike chain. It’s funky, looks cool in your home, and it’s a good conversation starter. You know … you can tell people it fell off your bike so you decided to get creative and – voila! – bowl. Or you can just tell them you bought it online. Either way, you’ll still earn some cool points!

Spring’s Floral Blouses

imageI love spring’s trend of wide-leg jeans and pants. To pull off the look, the perfect blouse is in order. Soft, feminine and flouncy tops work well and nothing is hotter than floral for spring.

Make looser tops belted to make them fresh or find ones that will show off your waistline! I love this Nature Collage Blouse ($198 at Anthropologie) for it’s vibrant yellow color and floral/nature theme.
