Havaianas Soul Collection

The renowned Brazilian flip-flop maker steps into slip-ons and sneakers

havaianas-espadrilles.jpg

Before Havaianas was born, its parent company Alpargatas, founded in 1907, exclusively sold espadrilles. (Alpargatas actually means espadrilles in Spanish.) Going back to these roots, the Brazilian maker of the popular flip-flops will introduce espadrilles, ballet flats and sneakers next Monday.

While the soles use the Brazilian company’s same ultra-soft rubber (a top-secret formula) that make their sandals so comfy, different materials for the uppers extend the brand with some added function. The espadrilles and ballet flats (both $38) keep it simple with cotton that comes in a variety of different colors. For an eco-friendly option that’s still durable, the
Staple
-designed sneakers ($58-68) are made with Jute fiber that grows in the trenches of the Amazon River. (Havaianas still makes their shoes in Brazil.)

To give some context, cotton takes 10 years to decompose, polyester takes 100, while Jute only takes two years. Jute farming is also one of Brazil’s main economic activities so the purchase of the eco-styles supports their economy and the Brazilian environment.

Celeb Poll – Brunette Beauties

imageWho said that blondes have more fun? We’ve got three brunette hotties and we’re asking you who you think rocked their look the best!

Is it Jennifer Hudson (and her incredible shrinking body) in a skin tight mini with a crazy abstract print? We love the platform stilettos and stacked bangles that she matched with it and the fuschia lips give a pop of color!

Maybe you’ll vote for Hilary Duff who traded in her golden locks and joined the dark-side recently. We love how she paired super trendy taupe pumps with a casual plaid top. Leather-look leggings add an edgy appeal!

Perhaps you’re digging Katie Holmes’ look the most with her classic black and white combo of a sleek blazer and slim cropped pants. We love that the polka-dot pumps add a youthful and energetic vibe!

Let us know who you think is the most stylish brunette by taking the poll below! Check back next week to see how to get the winning look for yourself!

DIY – Nail Art Manicures

imageJust because it’s a recession doesn’t mean you can’t get a cool manicure. Forget going to the salon for an expensive airbrushed design and hit up the drugstore for a find that will send shock waves down to your fingers tips!

All the typing we do here at StyleHive takes a toll on our nails, so we took a break to freshen up our fingers with some crazy cool designs!

Whether you’re feeling French or seeing stars, these are just a few new takes on a simple manicure.

What you’ll need

– 2 nail art pens – colors of your choice
– Base coat – color of your choice (we used white!)
– Clear top coat

Step 1 – Apply your colored base coat. This will be the background color for your nail design. Let dry.

Step 2 -Use your nail pens to apply the design of your choice.

For polka dots, simply draw circles all over your nails using the colored nail pen.

For a French manicure, use the pen to easily mark a thick line across the top of your nails.

Get a Sneak Peek at Matthew Williamson for Macy’s

imageIt’s bright, it’s colorful, it’s printed and it’s classic Matthew Williamson.

However, this Matthew Williamson, officially labeled ‘Matthew Williamson for Impulse, Only at Macy’s’, is priced hundreds, even thousands of dollars below his signature collection.

The limited-edition collection of short dresses, maxi dresses, outerwear pieces, rompers, shorts and blouses ranges in price from $50 to $120, with the suede and leather pieces priced slightly higher. This collection, which hits 225 Macy’s stores on April 13, was previewed on Tuesday evening at a presentation at the Mondrian Hotel in New York’s SoHo, but the designer, sadly, was not in attendance.

‘He has whimsy and fantasy and integrity of design’, Nicole Fischelis, Macy’s group vice president and fashion director, told StyleList. ‘I have been a fan of his work from the beginning and he has been extremely consistent.’

She added – ‘His unique color and print sensibility, his bohemian sensibility and attitude – there’s something very youthful at the same time totally sophisticated. It’s totally for right the contemporary Impulse customer.’

Beauty Pick Me Up – Ready, Set, Glow!

imageNow that the days are longer and the sun is shining brighter, we’re shedding our cold weather layers! Another thing to shed? Pasty skin! Now that Spring is here, that means we’ll be showing a lot more skin and who wants to flaunt pale legs and shoulders that haven’t seen the light of day in months?

Maybe it’s still a little too chilly to go sunbathing by the pool, or perhaps you just don’t have the time in your busy schedule and it’s no secret that tanning beds just aren’t good for you. But we still want that warm, sexy glow now! Luckily for us, self tanners are everywhere these days and we’ve narrowed it down to our top five self-tanner picks that we’ve tried and loved. Check out why then click the slideshow!

Jergens – Natural Glow Express Body Moisturizer: When it comes to drugstore brands, this is one of the originals and the best. At less than $9.00 for 4oz., the price is right and the express version delivers! Get believable, even color in just three days! The only down side? We’re sold on the price and color, but there is the tell-tale self tanner scent.

Clarins – ‘Delectable’ Self Tanning Mousse: Color applies evenly and appears after only a few uses and gives a warm, sexy glow! It dries very quickly with minimal tell-tale self tanner scent and with the addition of Mirabelle oil, it leaves skin soft and smooth, making it a great 3-in-1 product of self tanner, skin moisturizer and sun care lotion!

Victoria’s Secret – Sunkissed Bronze Instant Self Tan Lotion: Instant color! We watched ourselves turn into bronze goddesses before our very eyes! Plus, the color lasts and at only $12.00 for 6oz, we’re loving the price! The one down side? It takes a little longer to dry than the 5 minutes is claims so make sure you have a little extra time before getting dressed.

St. Tropez – Tanning Essentials Self Tan Bronzing Lotion: With a silky feel and light floral scent, this self tanner feels more like a nice body lotion than a self tanner! It builds believable color quickly and dries quickly. The down side? The color doesn’t seem to last longer than a couple days so stock up!

Jane Iredale – Tantasia Self Tanner: It smells like grapefruits and goes on smoothly and streak free. You see a slightly more bronze tone within the first application and builds gradually and believably. The color lasts a long time too and is great for sensitive skin!
