Shoe of the Week – Sam Edelman Novato Platform Pumps

imageTribal prints really are everywhere this season! Around our necks, on our ponchos, and now on our shoes.

These stiletto platforms from Sam Edelman feature a design they call ‘Lima Print’ in black and white that’s vaguely reminiscent of a South American alpaca blanket, except not as cozy and won’t make you itchy.

Everything from the tribal print to the raffia-covered platform to the wooden stacked heel reckons hand-made ‘native’ goods.

The natural-ness of the shoe means that it’s great for summer parties. Raffia is a great cover for a platform as it goes with absolutely everything and brings down any pretension that comes with a stiletto heel.

Summer Must-Have – The Convertible Maxi Dress/Skirt!

imageNo matter how far ahead I start scoping out the warm-weather trends or how diligent I am when it comes to fleshing out my summer wardrobe, accessories included, I know what will inevitably happen.

When summer actually hits – in all its sunny, sweltering glory – I’ll only actually end up wearing the smallest possible fraction of my new clothing, opting instead for whatever’s most comfortable, familiar, and flattering … and saving the rest for the rare special occasion when I€™m willing to branch out.

That’s why this time around, I’m attempting to narrow down my seasonal shopping to investment pieces that are stylish, comfy, and totally versatile … and what’s more versatile than a convertible skirt-turned-maxi-dress?

I spotted this Twelfth Street by Cynthia Vincent floral skirt/dress at Bloomingdales and instantly fell in love. It’s romantic and pretty, but unlike many of this season’s show-stopping maxi dresses, it’s not the kind of outfit that you can only take pictures in once and then must keep in hibernation until everyone forgets you wore it. It’s pretty without being too conspicuous, and can easily be dressed up and revamped into a totally new look, whether you’re rocking it as a skirt with a pretty blouse, as a halter or strapless dress with a pair of platform espadrilles. Or even over a swimsuit at the beach or poolside!

With so many different ways to wear it and dress it up or down, a convertible skirt/dress like this one can easily become your summer 2011 style staple!

Get The Winning Look From Our ‘Young Hollywood’ Poll!

imageWhen it comes to Hollywood starlets, there’s always a batch of fresh new faces ready for their spot in the lime light!

We asked you last week which young Hollywood starlet you thought showed the best style and you chose Sarah Hyland, best known for her role as the daughter in Modern Family.

We love how she mixed edgy leather with sweet chiffon and continued the appealing contrast with classic nude pumps and a sultry smoky eye to highlight her green eyes. Casacading waves complete her look.

We loved her look and so did you! Take a look at our slideshow to see some more tuff gal + romantic chick combos!

Celeb Poll – MTV Music Awards!

imageIt’s the battle of the embellished mini dresses! At this past weekends MTV Music Awards, all of Hollywood’s youngest and hippest showed up to show-off! We’ve got three of Tinsel Town’s young leading ladies that all showed up in leg-baring minis. Each style was eye-catching and unique and we can’t decide who’s embellished mini we liked the best, so we’re asking you!

Was it Leighton Meester in a glittering long-sleeved silver mini and strappy heels?

Are you going to vote for Emma Stone who mixed a conservative neckline and feminine lace with an edgy, gothic vibe and red-orange satin pumps?

Or is it the lovely vampire-bait Kristen Stewart in a strapless red mini with silver details and classic black pumps?

Let us know by taking the poll below!

Show Your Stripes!

imagePunch up your summer wardrobe with classic stripes!

Go for the fail-safe nautical look with navy and white, the eye-catching contrast of black and white, or really make it interesting with unexpected colors! We’re loving multi-colored stripes or something bright like a pop of yellow for a really fun look, or if you’re wanting something a little more subtle, try heather grey and white or a washed out beige.

Plus, the best things about stripes is that it’s a pattern that will stay in style year after year and season after season (just add layers)!

Rachel Comey Spring 2011 – Runway Review

imageDESIGNER: Rachel Comey

INSPIRATION: The cool indie-spirited girl that Comey always designs for.

TOP LOOKS: A high-waisted white cotton skirt with matching vest and diaphanous blouse with bandeau top; breezy bow blouses with short shorts; a cropped tank top with a button front high-waisted black skirt; bustier top dresses that were flowy and asymmetrical at the bottom; lots of mixed prints

ACCESSORIES: The designer’s own selection of sandals in the form of lace-up flats and wedges, platform booties, and thick heeled open toe shoes

WHO WAS THERE: Plaid-meister Steven Alan, Cathy Horyn from The New York Times

WHAT WE THOUGHT: It’s always nice to watch a show where a designer knows their target customer and hits the bulls eye. As the parade of very wearable pieces went down the runway – breezy white dresses and tops, silk plaid blouses and shorts, sweet halter dresses, and even a darling Chloe-esque summer suit – you could envision the girl who buys Rachel Comey’s clothes. She seems, to this reviewer anyway, to embody a Zooey Deschanel-like charm and quirkiness. And she would probably scoop up everything that Comey showed.

Daily Obsesh – Topshop USA Rust Colour Block Tee Dress

imageMulti-use clothing is the best way to spend your money, especially if you don’t have a ton of money to spend. This Topshop dress is on-trend, versatile, and made of sumptuious silk which is basically a dress home run.

Color-blocking is everywhere right now and we love this cool trend. Very Sixties mod, Twiggy, Warholian. Again, dress home run. Everyone from Marc Jacobs to DVF to Gucci walked a color blocking look down the runway this spring. We’re on good company.

We love the color blocking on this dress. The white is warm and the rust-hued contrast fits almost any skin tone. Plus, it’s about one millionth the cost of its runway doppelgangers!

Twiggy would be proud.
