Deckle & Hide

Bloesem Living | Deckle and Hide Leather goods and candles

When we first got our hands on these Deckle and Hide candles, we fell in love with the amazing scent it filled the studio with. (Everyone who entered told us it smelt like a spa!) Originally it was just for our smelling pleasure but then we realised even people from the other stores in the street wanted to get their hands on the candles so we decided to start selling them in the Bloesem shop too! We wanted to share the wondrous smells with everyone and so far the candles have been a hit.

Besides their lovely candles, Deckle and Hide also carries a range of locally (in Australia) hand crafted leather goods. Many of their products are made-to-order. (Saw a beautiful back pack they made specially for a customer on their instagram!)

Very much inspired by the natural concept behind Deckle and Hide's products, we went back to nature with this shoot! And Zara did an amazing job styling and photographing the Deckle and Hide collection. I'm so blessed to have her in my team!

Their leather goods are made from full grain, vegetable tanned bovine hide and kangaroo leather laced detailing for strength and durability. Then they are conditioned with natural oil and finished with beeswax. The leather develops its own unique, aged patina through use as they are not dyed.

Other than their stress-relieving scent, they are made from 100% natural ingredients! Anne and Luke first realised that burning many candles you see in stores could be detrimental to health because of all the toxic chemical in them so they decided they come up with their own line of 100% botanical candles that they would be able to enjoy without causing any harm to the little ones in the family.

Hellen van Berkel

Bloesem Living | Hellen van Berkel scarves

In 2012 we saw the colorful interiors of Hellen van Berkel’s home, today she is back, with more of her beautiful heart made prints and scarves. Though she worked for Esprit for a many years, Hellen has always made scarves, treating each design as it were a painting. Coming out with a collection biannually, Hellen believes in quality over quantity and hope that others agree with her, that it’s better to buy one nice thing that lasts a long time, rather than buying many that won’t stand the test of time. To create the best products, she looks for the best quality materials and production methods all around the world.

Lately, Hellen has been working on some very special scarves she made for the Rijksmuseum, that have just been released for sale!

Other than the scarves you see in her shop, Hellen also makes unique pieces for customers, like scarves made of wool embroidery on one side and silk on the other, and even pillows!

Lile Sadi

Bloesem Living | Lile Sadi 2014 collection

Lile Sadi has all kinds of exciting home accessories. The aim of their original textiles, wallpapers, and bevy of interior products, is to bring minimalism and joy into the homes of people, and I think their products definitely do that. I love that whatever you find in their online shop is unique. What I mean is that they carry bread boards, but instead of the usual shapes, it comes in the shape of a bear. How fun is that?

Their prints are also featured in their wallpapers. The newest range is definitely something that will have us reaching for our wallets. The reoccuring bear print throughout their products is a really quirky take on animal prints, which I totally approve of for a wallpaper!

Bloesem Living | Lile Sadi 2014 collection

Last week we featured their Lile Sadi Petite collection on Bloesem Kids, and we totally reccommend the wallpapers for the rooms of the little ones too.  A fun way to decorate the room , and that you won't look back on and think " why did mom choose that wallpaper?! What was she thinking?" We've all thought that at one point of time, whether it's about a hair cut we had as a child or our fashion sense back then.

Famille Summerbelle

{1. Maximilien et Ludo Mug 2. Paris Tray 3. clown mugs 4. Boom le clown and flower tea towels 5. Paris map 6. Paris mug}

This half Uk half French site, brings the best of both cultures in their products. With Julie creating the designs and Simon running the business aspects of Famille Summerbelle, they have created a great site for interior design and decoration.

We love the colorful and bold prints they offer. The bright blues, yellows and reds from their kitchen line would make any kitchen immediately more exciting … aren't we all guilty of being "too safe" sometimes… buying things that can "go with everything". But Famille Summerbelle will help us be more adventurous and step out of the box!

Starting today Friday 29th november until monday 2nd December you can enjoy a 25% off everything on their site!!

ps. All the products come beautifully wrapped and the tea towels and cushions are packed in a new Famille Summerbelle custom made foldable box.

Orphan Socks

{1. equilateral nails  2. brass pot stand 3. soki silhouettes necklace 4. book darts }

Today we shine the light on Orphan Socks. This brilliant website is an eclectic mix of items. It's Amsterdam-based and collects and sells unique and personal designs.

Orphan Socks stands for exceptional ordinariness for simple design, but not without an air of cool elegance. They sell a balanced blend of modest and accessible design where craftsmanship and small brands are more important than transient trends and established names.

The site along with its products, give me the vibe of a really upscale flea market. Let me explain! It has this sense of mystery and excitement, like I am not going to expect what great finds are hidden within! Also I like how the designs are really different and "less mainstream" in "hipster talk". All in all, the experience of browsing through their site is more like a treasure hunt and less of a tab-opening-and-immediate-closing process i usually go through when online shopping.

If you are still wondering how they got their name…

"In the meanwhile we love big city urban life but can also smile about small domestic phenomena like that one sock piece in your laundry …"

Anna See

Bloesem Living | Anna See

Since she started selling her work online in 2009, Anna See has been inspired to curate a selection that we now see on her new site. Of the wonderful selection, we have to commend Anna on the amazing pieces she has done herself!

Yes apart from curating pieces by guests artists, Anna herself is a talented artist and her shop features her very own artwork of hand-pulled linocut oil paint and ink prints of nature and fashion, birds as well as colorful hand drawn illustrations and digital prints. What a variety to choose from!

Bookmark this site, because whether its all natural soaps for mom, or Anna's very own illustrated art prints for a friend, a great place to shop for a gift this holiday season and use the following promo code when checking out to get 20% OFF all orders for Bloesem readers: BLOESEM20

The New Domestic

Bloesem Living | The New Domestic

{1. hemp linen 2. wool-slippers 3. khadi blanket 4. striped apron 5. bon journey bag }

The New Domestic is a homeware line designed for domestic living. What the site states is that they combine functionality and style, and we think thats exactly what they do!

From blankets to aprons to art prints, they have the things you need to beautify your home. Even if it wasn’t the holiday season, when everyone’s going to be visiting your house, this would be a great site to look for beautiful homeware.

Bloesem Living | The New Domestic

One of their recently launched products is the handpainted tiffin carriers. Every one of them handmade and handpainted. All that work definitely paid off! Look at the beautiful traditional floral motif, reminds me of the vintage tiffin carriers my grandmother used to have. Like their website promises, not only does the tiffin carrier look good, it is also very functional. The 3 individual tiers help keep meal components neatly separated to keep things crisp.

A great product to help cut down on the number of plastic take out boxes we use. Also packing food to school or the office in this can help save money on buying lunch, or even help you start making healthier food choices.

UncommonGoods is just the site you need for this time of year. It has come to rescue you from the headache of present shopping! From its name, you know it's going to offer some pretty out there kind of stuff and you are right. We love this site because it's not what you would expect, and has some pretty interesting out of the box products that would make great gifts and get us in the mood for Christmas shopping. We had a great time going through the site just looking at what they have to offer! So many fun gift ideas!

This product isn't something we usually see so we were immediately intrigued. This squid actually makes for a really fun and useful present. It lets you hang all your shower products from the shower head in the bathroom so you don't have to have a shelve to place them on, and you can just squeeze the products right out without removing the bottles from the squid.

It's even great for travel, like if you were on a road trip and have to move from place to place, it's handy to just hang in the bathroom and just detach when you leave.

I would love to get this as a gift for the annual christmas gift exchange! I know whoever gets it is going to love it and it's definitely a conversation starter.

Hope this is helpful for anyone who is having trouble deciding what to get your friends and loved ones for this holiday season. Happy shopping!  We shared our favorite products, now you guys tell us which products you guys liked 🙂

Mikkili

{1. H. Skjalm P. cushion 2. ceramic Christmas decorations 3.  the Timecapsule 4. golden dot glass 5. Hello floor lamp 6. tea towel }

Mikkili sells home accessories from a range of different designers and it’s a basically a treasure trove of beautiful additions to a home. What we like is that their collection features products that are abit different from what we are used to seeing in stores.

It’s the perfect place to get some holiday shopping done. Whether its christmas decorations or presents, Mikkili should have something to bring in that holiday cheer. The Timecapsule (number 3 of the collage) is a present I would personally choose for a friend or loved one. A great gift to document the start of a new year or a new phase in life!
