Shoe of the Week: 1971 Reiss Lolita Multirope Wedge

imageGiven the choice between a super sexy pair of stiletto heels or a wedge heel, I’d choose the wedge. Not only do wedges look a little more casual and can go with most of my wardrobe, they’re also more comfortable. Given that the wedge heel gives your feet more of a surface area to rest on rather than on a spindly spike heel, that means you can wear them throughout the day without changing into flats. Believe me, I was able to do it during the long days at New York Fashion Week! Since we’re heading into the gorgeous spring weather, it’s time to update your shoes for the occasion. I love the 1971 Reiss Lolita Multirope Wedge for the rope strap details that touches on a nautical look that comes back every summer. The pinkish cream leather is easy to coordinate with the rest of your wardrobe and the 4 inch wedge heel is enough to have you stand comfortably tall.

Get Porcelain-Smooth Skin With These Pore-Refining Face Primers!

imageUnfortunately we weren’t all blessed with picture-perfect skin; in fact, some of us were “blessed” with pores the size of dinner plates. But luckily, now that there’s such a focus on pre-makeup beauty in the market today (eyeshadow bases, lipstick preppers, foundation primers, etc), we don’t have to be forced to “embrace” our skin imperfections as they are. Refining primers aren’t miracle workers, but they sure can do a darn good job at minimizing the appearance of pores (and not in a “too-subtle-to-be-helpful” way either!), whether meant to be worn in place of foundation or under it. But since we come in all shapes, sizes, colors, and skin types, I won’t just bombard you by insisting that you try out my favorite (*cough* Dr. Brandt! *cough*). In fact, I’ve got a list of 8 (count em — 8!) different pore-refining primers, so you’re bound to find one that suits your fancy, whether you’re on a budget… or even on an eco-friendly routine. I got you covered, much like your minor skin imperfections will be once you find your perfect primer match! Take a look at the slideshow to see my top 8 picks!

Perfect Pairing: Maxi Dresses With Boyish Blazers

imageWith all of spring’s micro mini skirts and shorts, I was left wondering what I can wear when I’m feeling more modest. But for every micro mini on the runway, there were just as many maxi dresses. Long dresses often fall into two categories: the wear-to-the-beach maxi dress, or the formal gown. But the dresses for spring 2010 are anything but these two extremes – they’re perfect for day walking around the city, and when paired with a classic blazer they can even make their way into some offices. A jacket over a long dress looks much fresher than your time-tested cardigan. To avoid looking like you took your boyfriend’s jacket and haven’t gone home since last nights gala add some casual everyday accessories like flats and an oversized bag. Take a loose neutral long dress from the beach to the city by adding a tailored colored jacket and a platform wedge. Minimize the girlishness of a floral maxi dress with a leather vest and some studded flats. Check out some other cool maxi dress and blazer combos in the SLIDESHOW.

Label Love: Less Is More With Apiece Apart

imageI can imagine that a lot of women out there spend a lot of time pondering what to wear in the morning. For me, it usually leads to a mish mash of clothing and accessories thrown together at the last minute. Two friends Laura Cramer and Starr Hout were on a road trip in Texas where they talked about the same thing and had the urge to simplify their closets. They created Apiece Apart as a response to creating their own streamlined wardrobes. Apiece Apart definitely subscribes to the mantra, “less is more.” Each piece is designed to mix and match with each other and most importantly, last through the changes in trends. I’m a big fan of their Classic Relaxed Blazer in a dusty apricot color which can be paired with slouchy boyfriend jeans or a slinky cocktail dress. Their collection is a great way to start thinking like a personal stylist and edit down your closet to be at its personal best. Afterall, you really don’t wear those Juicy Couture trackpants anymore, right? Take a look at my slideshow to see more of Apiece Apart and shop the collection at Les Nouvelles!

Recession Chic: Practical Spring Flats Under $100!

imageOn the perfect lazy spring day, when the last thing you want to do is be teeter around in heels all afternoon, the easy route would be to reach for a pair of flip-flops in your stash of sandals. But sometimes your trusty Havaianas don’t exactly suit the situation when you want something a little dressier than, say, rubber… yet the whole point is that you were trying to avoid the endless “which-pair-is-perfect-with-this-particular-outfit” debate and just slip something on and go already! Luckily, it can be that easy with the perfect pair of practical spring flats! The idea is to choose a pair that can go with nearly everything, while still staying on-trend with the season, making it look like you actually meticulously paired them with each item of your outfit (only we need to know that they’re your new no-brainer go-to pair for just about anything!). But practical doesn’t have to mean boring, and it doesn’t have to mean pricey either! With updated classics like slingback oxfords, or practical yet edgy hardware like studs in place of polka dots, your flats can be foolproof, versatile and stylish… all for under $100! Check the slideshow for my favorite go-with-almost-everything flats!

Hot In The Hive: Police Line Shower Curtain

imageDespite my cheerful personality, I’ve been known to have pretty morbid thoughts and especially enjoy post-apocalyptic movies (sidenote: I totally recommend the comedy “Zombieland”). I also love crime TV shows like CSI and Law and Order: SVU where they definitely use their fair share of police tape from the props closet. So of course I instantly fell in love with the Police Line Shower Curtain from Urban Outfitters. If you’re looking for extra privacy, other than adding a deadbolt to the bathroom door, this could be the easiest and cheapest solution for you. Designed by artist Aleksander Mukomelov, who fittingly designed the uber-conceptual Infinity Bath. At less than $20, it’s a small price to pay to decorate your bathroom and score some privacy too. But don’t blame me if your roommates have a different kind of humor and play the “Psycho” theme song the next time you take a shower!

Price: $19.99

Glitz Your Wrists With A Set Of Stacked Bangles!

imageWhen it comes to jewelry, I love the look of stacked bracelets and bangles. After all, as a girl who’s always talking with her hands (what can I say? I’m Italian!), it’s nice to have a little bling where it counts! However, while I’ve certainly collected my share of trinkets over the years, I have a hard time pairing coordinating bracelets on my own for that effortlessly layered look. The solution? Bangles that already come in a coordinating set! Either matching and intertwined like these gold CC Skye interlocking bangles, or mix-and-matched like this “Cleopatra” themed set, bangle sets practically do all the thinking for you. Just make sure you keep the rest of the jewelry to a minimum so you don’t end up looking like a gypsy drowning in a pool of glitz and glitter. Check the slideshow for some ready-to-stack bangle sets!

Clothiers Are Going Crazy Over Coral!

imageTurquoise has been named as the Pantone color of the year, but nipping at its heels as a close second favorite is the color: coral. Coral beauty products have been a classic favorite of makeup experts when it comes to spring and summer because the color adds instant warmth and is an eye-catching hue on sunny days. The same can be said for coral colored apparel. Either as a flirty dress to turn heads, or a casual way to add a pop of color, like in a tee or tank, coral gives a youthful and daring vibe to any ensemble. Instead of red dress at night, try using a brighter, more saturated tone of coral to be a little more unique. Or make a weekend outfit of jeans and a t-shirt a tad more trendy with a soft coral tone. Coral comes in its own rainbow of shades and can be used for virtually every type of garment. Click on the slideshow to see some of my favorite coral garments and add a punch of color to your Spring!
