Silky Tops Are Sheerly Amazing!

imageI’m not quite sure who said it, but some wise fashion guru once proclaimed that “fashion is all about eventually becoming naked”. To be honest, I couldn’t agree more. There is nothing more liberating and comfortable that wearing little more than your birthday suit. Unfortunately, we are not all Lady Gaga (as much as we would like to be) and parading around in ensembles that barely cover is more likely to get you arrested than praised. This season, though, you can rock the semi-nude look with tops and blouses made of sheer chiffon and gauzy silks and still be appropriate enough to show yourself in public. With anything from billowing bloussant tops to more structured button-downs getting the semi see-through makeover, you have a variety of ways to wear this latest trend. Pair a draped, voluminous top over a pair of cute shorts or sleek leggings, or tuck a sheer button down into a simple summer skirt. Adding a cami underneath gives extra coverage, or if you’re really feeling bold, try pairing the translucent tops with a pretty, brightly colored bra underneath for some peek-a-boo sex appeal. Click on the slideshow to see some of my favorite sheer chiffon tops and work one into your daily ensemble now!

Hot In The Hive: Daria: The Complete Animated Series

image“La la la la la… You’re standing on my neck.” If that little tune rings a bell, raise your hand. One of my favorite shows from the 90s, “Daria” was a total hit with everyone I recommended it to. Daria started off as a character from Beavis and Butt-head but her smart, sarcastic and misanthropic character landed her own show for five seasons on MTV. (You know, way back before MTV started airing shows like “My Super Sweet 16.”) Anyway, since it’s last season aired in 2000, I’ve been eagerly awaiting the DVD set so I can relive Lawndale High, Jane Lane, and of course, the Fashion Club. Luckily the wait is over because all five seasons, both movies, and special features are in stores now. So put on your favorite green jacket, pleated skirt, and knee high Doc Martens to remember why high school sucked and wallow in teenage angst.

Recession Chic: 10 Summer Scarves Under $25

imageOne of the biggest summer wardrobe challenges is how to keep cool with a tank and shorts or a breezy sundress but also have some added visual interest without adding heavy layers. The easy answer to this summer fashion conundrum is to add a scarf! No, I’m not talking about the heavy knits from winter. Instead, I’m thinking about light scarves in silk, cotton, or linens in bright colors that can be tied around the handles of your purse and then wrapped around your neck when it gets chilly at night. With any seasonal accessory, I like to spend as little as possible so I was able to find 10 summer scarves under $25. One of my favorite finds is the Pins and Needles Forest Oblong Scarf from UrbanOutfitters since it’s large enough to drape over your shoulders or even use as a impromptu picnic blanket. For something more decorative go for the Brazen Chain Trim Infinity Jersey Scarf for an alternative to a chunky necklace. Take a look at my slideshow to see more scarves fit for summer!

You’re Bound To Love Ankle-Wrap Sandals For Summer!

imageNews flash: ankle-wraps aren’t just for ballet pointe shoes! Aside from the possibility of some rather “unique” tan lines, wrap sandals make for super-cute summer footwear, especially when it comes to accessorizing bare legs while you’re rockin’ a pair of short shorts or your favorite denim mini. Add height (and a bit of embellishment too) with a pair of ankle-wrap espadrille wedges like this Colin Stuart pair, or opt for some slightly more casual flats like these Jeffrey Campbell Batik sandals, which still pack quite a punch with their bright dyed print! Or to hit up the summer parties after the pool, these silk wrap sandals from Bebe put a sexy, dressy spin on the trend! Be careful when choosing the right pair, though — ankle wraps in general have the tendency to shorten legs, so unless you’re gifted with long, lean, supermodel-worthy legs, make sure to choose a style and color that’s flattering! After all, if they’re not making your calves look killer, what’s the point? Scope out the slideshow for a selection of my favorite wrap sandals!

Have Your Cake & Bathe In It Too With These Dessert-Scented Products!

imageTalk about a guilt-free indulgence! You may be on the right track for swimsuit season with that strict summer diet of yours, but that doesn’t mean you can’t have your just desserts! With sweets-centric beauty brands dedicated to bath time decadence like Cake Beauty and Dylan’s Candy Bar products, candy and cake-scented bath and body products are gaining more and more popularity. After all, what’s not to love about the idea of taking your favorite treats with you in the shower (other than the fact that I’m sure they don’t taste nearly as good as their deceptively delicious scent)? For example, this Laura Mercier Creme Brulee Honey Bath has the same creamy richness and delicious scent of your favorite dessert (it even has a honeycomb for authentic application!), but this goodie won’t leave you feeling sticky, guilty, or heftier afterward! Take a look at the slideshow for my favorite sweet-scented products!

Get In Touch With Your Wild Side With Animal Jewelry

imageFrom leopard prints, tortoise shells, to iridescent fish scales, it’s easy to find fashion inspiration within the animal kingdom. What I love most are all of the wild animal jewelry designs. In fact, I have a giant peacock pendant necklace I love to wear with just about everything and always get compliments on it. I’m always on the lookout for cool animal jewelry whether it’s a bangle bracelet or delicate earrings. For starters, I’ve always dreamed of owning a horse (what kind of girl hasn’t?) so the Betsy Ring from Couture Candy is perfect for any free spirited girl. I can already imagine the wind running through my hair! If you’re looking for a subtle nod to your love of animals, take a peek at the mini elephant earrings which are pretty tiny and only $8. Find Your Perfect Summer Skirt With Stylehive’s Stylescopes!

imageWhen you were a little tomboy of a kid, it was easy to dismiss yourself as “not a skirt person.” After all, skirts are practically like dresses, and you were definitely not a dress person. But as a much more fashion-savvy adult, you know the possibility of skirt styles are practically endless. Not all skirts are flouncy and flirty or floral and ruffled. As for the ones that are… what’s not to love?! Taurus girls can still be totally sporty in an athletic fleece skirt from American Apparel, and Pisces ladies will embrace that dreaded girlie side with a lacey layered skirt. Either way, the stars have aligned in favor of showing off those gams (and the warming weather agrees)! Want to find out which skirt style your sign is destined to make its signature look? Check out the slideshow to see your perfect summer skirt!
