Add Some Summer Sparkle With An Embellished Vest

imageWhile the early spring gave way to plenty of leather moto and denim vests, the season ahead has more lightweight, bedazzled versions in store! Embellished vests are a great way to amp up your summer style, whether you’re looking to add some sparkle to your everyday casual look or hoping for a night-time staple to throw on over a tank on your way out. Opt for something silky and floaty like this beaded chiffon vest by Diane von Furstenberg, or rock your desert boots with some Western-inspired studded suede like this one by Shyde. Whether casual-cute or evening-appropriate, vests are the perfect no-brainer add-on to any outfit, and an instant way to dress up your basic tee. For my 9 favorite embellished vests for a stylish summer ahead, take a look at the slideshow!

Hot In The Hive: She Hit Pause Studios Pin-Up Girl Photos By Matt Schwartz

imageToday’s pin-up girl isn’t posed. She’s not perfectly manicured, makeup-ed and primped. She’s not innocently provocative, but casually provocative. She’s unknowingly gorgeous, yet very sure of herself. She’s playful and shameless. Being naked clothed, or covered in gumballs is all the same to her. She sees both sunshine and rain and is just fine being in either one. She’s not always happy, nor is she always sad, but she’s beautiful no matter the mood. Thanks to original Matt Schwartz’s Polaroid snapshots that he captured for She Hit Pause Studios, today’s pin-up girl is ours to admire. The images are such true artistic reality that no matter how raw it seems for her to be lying naked alongside a mirror, or how insignificant she seems as her head bobs out of a massive pool of dark water, she’s still virtuous, flawless, robust. Enjoy the dynamic display of Schwartz’s latest collection of today’s pin-up girl in this slideshow and pick up a few prints for contemporary, femme-foward home!

Being Part Of A Chain Gang Never Looked So Good!

imageIn the recent fall and winter seasons, rocker-chic and rock inspired aesthetics gained popularity with leather accents, zippers and, most importantly, chain detailing. Nothing says “don’t mess with me” like a few well placed chains or chain accessories to give you a tough biker chick appeal. This edgy style is definitely fun and fashionable to wear, but what happens if you just aren’t the rocker type and still want to participate in this fad? Not a problem. Chain accessories have gotten a softer make-over with thick, chunky chains now being intertwined with thinner, more elegant strands, as well as other more feminine media like crystals and pearls. Now, instead of looking cool but also like you might punch out someone’s teeth, chain accessories are more versatile and lady-like and can be worn from day to night and don’t require a leather jacket and steel-toed boots to complete the look. Finally, more girly girls can now jump on this accessories band-wagon and become part of the ‘chain gang’ without feeling like they’re donning a costume or adopting a look that just isn’t them. Sound like you? Click on the slideshow and see some of my favorite multi-chain, multi-media accessories!

Bag Of The Week: Matthew Williamson Atomic Clutch

imageEver since sequins really hit it big last fall and started dripping off the racks in the form of cardigans, leggings, blazers, and more, shimmery clutches are no longer that unique or unexpected in comparison. However, something about this Matthew Williamson Atomic Clutch seems totally fresh, despite its simple shape and all-over sparkle. Unlike traditional black, charcoal, or metallic silver, the opalescent purple and gold give the clutch a cool holographic-type gradient look, depending on how the light hits it, and the color combo is not only unique but more festive for the warmer months ahead. It’s perfect for a hot summer night out on the town, or a 4th of July party beneath the fireworks (no, it’s not too early to plan your outfit)! Normally a Matthew Williamson bag would burn a serious hole in your wallet, but for 60% off, it’s worth an extra gander!

Our Favorite Makeup Gets Sun-Friendly Just In Time For Summer With Added SPF!

imageNow that the clouds have parted and it’s officially sunscreen season, it’s time to start scouring the beauty aisle for the least oily, heavy formula that won’t be totally gross and cakey under or over your makeup. Or, thanks to some of our favorite sun-savvy beauty brands, you can eliminate one gunky layer entirely and stick to your favorite beauty products that already have sun-protectant in them! Summer-friendly brands like Bare Minerals, Smashbox, and even Sephora know what it’s like to need protection from the sun’s harmful rays without feeling like you’re wearing a painted-on shield, so they’ve added SPF to their everyday products like lipgloss, primer, and foundation to allow your skin to stay safe and actually breathe at the same time! Check out the slideshow for a selection of sun-safe products!

Hide From The Rain In A Hoodie!

imageUnless you live in the United States Of Perfect, there will always be that day sans sunshine. Clouds and raindrops, however, shouldn’t cramp your style by forcing you to either sacrifice your morning coffee as you walk outdoors carrying an umbrella, or your at-long-last perfect hair poof by wearing a hat. Instead, beat the weather blues by slinging on the ever-comfortable hoodie
. Hoodies are great for sheltering a bit of chill, and certainly perfect for protecting your head from a mop of wet hair. Strings or no strings, zips or no zips, pockets or no pockets — they may just be the most versatile form of buffer between you and inclement weather! With as many shapes, cuts and crops to choose from, there are just as many price points to find the layer that works for you. The beachy California surf style is always fresh, and there are plenty of options if you’re anti vintage-varsity-lettering as well. Go ahead, spring: that drizzle’s not going to frizzle us under these hoods. Besides — the best days for shopping are the rainy ones anyway!

Hot In The Hive: Acme Studios Eye Chart Eyeglass Case

imageYou may think I’m weird, but I actually like going to the dentist. Maybe it’s because I’ve been blessed with strong enamel so I almost never get cavities and I like the feeling of super clean teeth after every check up and cleaning. But another appointment I’m loathe to make (besides waxing) is my eye exam. You’re supposed to have one at least every two years so I like to leave them to the last minute. Why do I hate it? Well, I have really bad vision and each appointment is a reminder of how grateful I should be that I live in the 21st century and don’t have to wear coke bottle lenses. That’s why I’m tempted to spare myself the agony and just get the Eye Chart Eyeglass Case instead! The super durable case is made of practically indestructible polyvinyl with a velvety interior so your glasses stay safe from the crush of books and lipglosses in your bag. Plus, I can place the case at a distance and take the eye exam all by myself. Ok maybe not, but I can dream!

Trend Report: Top 10 Military Inspired Pieces

imageAfter years of noticing trends come, go, or stick around forever (leggings, anyone?) I’ve learned to never say never. After all, if I’m not totally sold on a trend, I can always grab something inexpensive at Forever 21 and not feel bad once it’s played out. The latest one to hit the streets (and my closet) is the military trend. I’m not talking about military with big brass buttons or epaulets on the shoulders. Instead, it’s the down and dirty army surplus style made chic by the likes of Rag & Bone and even Zac Posen. If you’re on a budget, take a look at the Twill Tie-Belt Jacket that’s less than $40 and super chic when paired with a super girly skirt and blouse underneath. If you’re not a fan of the jackets, check out the Ecote Surplus Military Shortie that’s perfect with a simple t-shirt and ankle boots. Take a look at my slideshow to see my top picks!
