Beauty Pick Me Up – Skin Flaws? Masque It!

imageFacial and spa treatments that we used to get at our favorite salon are now becoming more and more readily available in at-home versions.

One such beauty product that’s effective and super simple to DIY is the facial mask. Whether it comes in mask or peel form, the facial mask is a quick way to rectify any skin type. You just have to know what to look for!

Well, that’s where we come in. Check out our tips for the best type of facial mask for different skin types, then click on the slideshow to see some of our favorites!

Normal Skin – This is a simple one! For you, a facial mask should just be for maintenance and prevention. Look for moisturizing face masks chock full of vitamin C or anti-oxidants. Apply a face mask once every 2 weeks.

Oily Skin – Look for a clay mask or a facial peel that will mattify and control shine. Steer clear of anything that’s super moisturizing as this can lead to even more shine. Try a mask once a week for optimum results!

Dry Skin – A facial mask once a week can do wonders for dry skin. Look for options that have vitamin E and are highly moisturizing. A quick tip for a little added hydration? Smooth on a dime sized amount of night cream after your done with the facial mask!

Bag of the Week – Soft Slouchy Crescent Bag

imageHaving a super-duper soft, slouchy leather purse is kind of like having a cuddly teddy bear or your favorite blanket as a child.

You can love it, comfort yourself with it, and it has to go everywhere you go because, well … it’s your binkie. There’s no denying the warm feeling you get inside knowing it will always be by your side.

So if you’re in the market for a friend, then we recommend this supple blue baby available at NeedSupply.com. The creamy color of the leather looks just as soft as it actually is, and the best part? You won’t even spend $50 for it!

So go ahead, indulge yourself.

CH Local: Chicago

From modern haberdasheries to hole-in-the-wall taquerias, our latest jumping-off points for navigating the Second City

Known alternately as the Windy City and Second City, Chicago may be more known for what it isn’t (New York), than what it is. Home to the third-largest South Asian, Mexican and Puerto Rican populations in the U.S., a just-announced bike-sharing program and a growing cast of restaurants serving up much more than just deep-dish, there’s plenty of reasons to check out the northerly metropolis. Get the rundown on what to do while you’re there in our newly-up-to-date CH Local guide, which includes the standout joints below.

Shrine Haberdashers

Upstairs from Jack Spade’s Oak Street shop is Shrine Haberdashers, a well-edited boutique stocking handcrafted artisan accessories (pocket squares, rings, cuff links, etc.), leather goods, ties, hats and scarves. An excellent spot for sourcing hard-to-find accessories, gifts or other dapper duds, the Shrine and Spade combo is a great place for guys to pick up some classic threads.

Transistor

Andersonville has become known for its eclectic mix of vintage furniture and housewares shops like Scout and Roost, but a newcomer arrived in 2010, adding a bit of edge to the Far North Side young professional enclave. Transistor, owned by husband-and-wife duo Andy Miles and Rani Woolpert, is a multi-use space. Framed photos of live music gigs and urban scenes grace the walls; letterpress stationary and cutting-edge turntables line the shelves; and hard-to-find music magazines and hardcover culture coffee table books abound. And, depending on the day, Transistor hosts live radio shows, comedy performances and film screenings.

Big Star

Edging out Rick Bayless’ River North spot Xoco for down-and-dirty Mexican street food, Big Star (from the team behind Avec, Blackbird and the Violet Hour) is a must-hit for tacos al pastor, tacos de pollo and tacos de pescado. Dig in to the always-fresh guacamole, queso fundido and pickled vegetables, and wash it down with a super cheap beer or choose a shot of whiskey from their extensive list of Southern-inspired spirits. Take some tacos away from the walk-up window, or stake your claim on the sprawling patio in the summertime and soak up some rays.

Get Her Look – Leona Lewis’ Special Dinner Date Ensemble

imageIt’s sad to admit, but most of us don’t dine in fine restaurants on a daily … heck, weekly … basis. But that shouldn’t deter us from having a special dinner date look on reserve.

Leona Lewis showed us how to dine in style during a recent stop at Nobu restaurant in London. Her pleated midi skirt and lace T-shirt are completely on-trend without being over-the-top. And her crystal studded platform sandals are just mesmerizing.

This skirt and top look can go dressy or casual, depending on the items you add to the look. Add wedge sandals and a canvas tote for dining at a casual eatery. A belted cardigan and understated peep-toe pumps will make this lace top and midi skirt work-appropriate.

Find out how to get Leona’s special dinner date look at a fraction of a celebrity budget below.

Nails Inc Arrives At Sephora With Lacquers From London!

imageFor some reason, American pop culture seems obsessed with our pals overseas. Maybe it’s the sexy accents or the simple allure of the unfamiliar, but British TV hosts, singers, actors have taken over the airwaves and the big screen alike.

And the same can be said for our preferred beauty brands – namely nail polish lines! Edgy Illamasqua and the more demure Butter London have already made waves among beauty mavens in the USA, and now Brit-based Nails Inc. has touched down in Sephora stores all over the nation!

Boasting one of the most impressive varieties of hues and finishes we’ve ever seen (and that’s saying a lot!) – from glossy cream shades to shiny metallics and high-impact glitter, it’s tough not to be intrigued by what Nails Inc has to offer the makeup superstore!

Either way, if it’s good enough to grace the hands of models strutting the catwalks during London Fashion Week and covers of high-fashion magazine covers – not to mention compete with Sephora and OPI’s own nail polish line – it’s definitely worth taking a gander!

Street Style – Fit To Prints

imageThere’s nothing wrong with cutesy polka dots and florals or classic stripes and there’s definitely a time and place for bold animal prints.

But lately, it’s been all about the abstract or ethnic patterns. Ikat and Navajo inspired, brightly hued water colors and geometric shapes are what’s hot in the world of prints and patterns right now and we love it.

And so do many big-name style bloggers! We reached out to a few of our favorites for print style and inspiration and here’s what they had to say …
