Recession Chic – Go For The Gold! $100 Or Less

imageMetallics are in and while silver and bronze are just as beautiful, it’s really about going for the gold this season. Eye-catching without being gaudy, gold is a surprising neutral. Like the popular nude tone trend, gold is a color that matches virtually everything. Bold and edgy when paired with black, incredibly luxe with white, and a head-turning color all on it’s own, gold is the way to go this season.

Plus, with the holidays upon us, gold is a festive color that can be as glittering or understated as you please. Gold jewelry is gorgeous, but obvious, so try out this gold trend in garments and other accessories. Look for a sequined dress to really make a statement, or add just a pop with small embellishments.

And while gold itself can get pretty pricey, gold pieces can be affordable and worn before, during and after all the holiday soirees. Afterall, what fun are the holidays if they’re gild-free? Click on the slideshow to see some fave gold picks for $100 or less!

Stylelist Shows Us – How to Wear Socks With Skirts for Fall!

imageStyle setters are saying ‘sock it to me’ this season, strutting the streets in the once-forbidden look of anklets and knee-highs paired with skirts. Designers including Marc Jacobs, Dolce & Gabbana, DKNY, Marni and Cynthia Steffe are among those putting a stylish spin on socks.

‘I think a ballet flat and a sock is a really cute look’, celebrity stylist Elle Werlin, who has worked with Beyoncé and Jessica Szohr, tells StyleList. ‘It kind of has that hipster, geeky-chic vibe and can look amazing. Also, a sock and a great sandal or boot adds a youthful, trendy look to anything you already have in your closet.’

And yes, Werlin says, the socks-and-skirt look is something real women can pull off, giving a youthful twist to the season’s retro-inspired silhouettes.

‘For fall, there were a lot of A-line, ’50s-style skirts, and ankle socks with a small, 1-inch heel gave a new look to the ’50s feel’, she says. ‘The socks add a twist to a lot of inspiration from the past.’

Cute Thanksgiving Outfits That Allow Room For Seconds!

imageThanksgiving is just around the corner and we’re all looking forward to the family time and, more importantly, the delicious and extensive Thanksgiving dinner! But while ’tis the season to indulge and seconds are a must, we don’t need to show our turkey-filled bellies off for all to see.

It’s no secret that skintight jeans or a clingy top would not be the most comfortable or flattering after your third slice of pie and that the wisest ‘cute but comfy’ Thanksgiving options would be looser fitting tops and belly-accommodating pieces.

Draped tunics and oversized tops are completely in style, while sweet, girly baby doll dresses are a classic. Leggings are sleek and flattering, or if you’re looking for something a little dressier, try a pair of jeggings or cargo leggings. Click on the slideshow to see some of our favorite looks and styles to help us look great, stay comfortable and eat our fill this Thanksgiving!

Beauty Pick Me Up – Sleek And Easy Up-Do’s

imageWhen it comes to looking polished and put together, the finishing touches and accessories are just as important as the outfit itself. One of the most important finishing touches to any ensemble is the hair style. While it would be wonderful to be able to get a pricey blow-out every week, or have the time to perfect an elaborate hairstyle every morning, it’s just not practical. So we’ve decided on three easy-to-do up-dos that are versatile and will save you time in the morning, but have you stepping out looking perfectly coiffed!

Side Swept Ponytail – An easy ‘do that’s flattering on all face shapes! Simply rub a few drops of sleeking serum into slightly damp hair, sweep hair to one side and gather loosely at the nape of the neck. Secure with an elastic band and a few pins in the back to keep hair in place (leave the front tousled for an effortless appeal). This look also words well as a loose braid!

Twisted Bun – This style is classy and clean! Add a pumps of a pliable hair mold to damp hair and grasp hair into a ‘ponytail’ at the nape of the neck. Gently twist hair until it naturally starts to turn in a circle. Loop hair around itself tightly and secure with an elastic band (two if you have longer hair!). Hide the ends by tucking them under and use a few bobby pins to secure. This look is also fun to adorn with silk flowers or a shiny headband!

Sleek High-Ponytail – A classic coif that gives sass to any ensemble. Simple use a few drops of sleeking serum and brush hair so that it is pulled back with no part. Gather hair tightly to at least the center of the head if not higher and secure with an elastic band, being sure that the front and back are smooth. Grab a section of hair (about to finger widths) and wrap it around the elastic to hide it, tucking and pinning the ends underneath to hide it. Add a few more drops of sleeking serum to smooth out flyaways!

Bag of the Week – Hammitt Los Angeles ‘Westwood’ Satchel

imageEvery Monday evening, we turn our attention to Gossip Girl so we can swoon over Chuck Bass and, of course, to see the fabulous clothes, shoes and accessories the ladies wear. And sometimes we pay attention to the actual storyline. Maybe. The latest accessory to catch our attention? The Hammitt Los Angeles Westwood Satchel that Jessica Szohr’s character has carried around.

This leopard-printed bag has Italian suede lining, double shoulder straps and gold-plated embellishments that bring out our sexy chic side. It’s fun and flirty to carry around and fits just about everything you need to have with you (we really mean it when we say everything). And while the price might make a small dent in your bank account, we think it’s well worth it.

Lanvin Hearts H&M And We Heart Them Both!

image‘What does luxury mean today?’, ponders Lanvin designer, Alber Elbaz, chatting about his new collaboration with H&M.

‘Can luxury be exclusive and democratic at the same time? How can we translate the essence of luxury to a wider audience? The world around us is changing rapidly and I find myself asking these questions more and more. A designer’s work is usually tailored to a very small group of people, but the collection for H&M was about trying to translate the dream of luxury to the masses. It was almost like going back to school for me.’

Happily, school’s out come November 23rd when the collection hits stores – an array of his signature colorful, Parisian-glam frocks & accessories oozing playful joie de vivre, not to mention sporty classics & natty tuxedos – for daytime! – for Lanvin lovin’ fashionistos.
