Blurring the lines between athletic wear and street wear, today€™s sneakers are a mere reflection of hip-hop couture. This season, my favorite trend is high-top sneakers. With stylephiles like Agyness Deyn, Daisy Lowe, and Amber Rose spotted stomping around in Doc Martens recently, could it be that the iconic brand is back? Apparently, the company itself seems to think so as they€™ve revamped their line to include not just the classic romper stompers for which they€™re so beloved, but also sandals, pumps, and boots that are quite contemporary-driven. Doc Martens, which began as the footwear of choice for British Punk heads and soon became a style staple of American Gen X-ers, have also updated their classic 8-eye boot beyond the basic dark colors- black, cherry red, hunter- to include royal blue, bubble gum pink, and€¦banana yellow? Swimsuit season is right around the corner and as you sculpt your body into bikini-worthy shape with diet and exercise, it’s nice to know that a recent study in the New England Journal of Medicine reports that the type of diet you use to slim down doesn’t matter as much as sticking to it. That’s right. You can forget yo-yo, crash or fad diets. But it won’t make one ounce of difference if you follow Atkins, the Zone, Volumetrics, Weight Watchers, the South Beach Diet, the Sonoma Diet or any others. Like a lot of areas of life, it’s persistence that pays off. Well, that plus healthy eating and exercise. One in a million can look like Heidi Klum without effort but the rest of us mortals have to work at it. Need some motivation? Boot-cut, wide-legged, relaxed fit, bell bottoms- the denim universe is jam-packed with styles which make choosing a pair of jeans a daunting task. If it ever becomes too jarring, go for the good ol’ standby: straight-leg. We are beginning to see a more tailored look for men when it comes to jeans and trousers. Men shouldn’t be wary of this cut. The trick is to choose a pair of jeans that flatter rather than cling to your body like man leggings. There are various degrees of straight legs. You can go for a more streamlined look with April 77 jeans or you can go for something a little roomy in the thigh from G-Star. Whatever you choose, be sure that you are comfortable. As a general rule of thumb, jeans should fall from the waist and straight down (hence the term, “straight-leg”). You’d be surprised how a pair of straight-legged jeans can flatter your body.
