Hot In The Hive: Molave Ring Vase

When I look at decor magazines or even the Ikea catalogs, it seems that stark minimalism is everywhere. I’m talking about bare walls, white lacquer furniture and really uncomfortable looking sofas. While I can definitely appreciate the simple and clean lines of modern decor, I like some organic shapes too. Then again, I don’t want my living room to look like a ski lodge or hunting trophy room either. That’s why the Molave Ring Vase is perfect for nature lovers with minimalist tastes. The vase features sustainable Philippine molave wood and a recycled glass cylinder. They even kept the bark on for a authentic rustic look! Best part is, you don’t have to spend an arm and a leg for it (it’s doubly guilt-free!). So keep your walls bare and set this vase down on your glass side table to create a room even the Swedish have to appreciate.

Price: $59

Didn’t have the time– or the budget– this year to go on Spring Break? WhatsWear’s editors were too busy preparing for our upcoming launch to get away either, but we didn’t let that stop us from looking like we spent a week sailing in St. Bart’s, poolside in Miami or cliff diving in Acapulco. Vintage Fashionistas Are Seeing Red

Christian Louboutin knew a thing or two when he chose to put red soles on his shoes. A study reported in the Journal of Personality and Social Psychology says that while red won’t make you look smarter or more confident or more likable, it will make you appear sexier to men. Then there’s the study in Science that says that the color red is the best color when you want to focus. Add in the research examining data from the 2004 Olympics that concluded athletes who wear red uniforms win more often and it’s almost enough to convince a blonde bombshell to become a redhead. Of course, any gal can don one of these red-hot vintage finds and also get on the radar of every available male within staring distance! Just click the slideshow to see the selection.

Channel A Part-Time Greek Goddess In A Draped Skirt

The Grecian trend is wonderful. Pieces that borrow from this look are so dignified without being over done. The folds of the fabric and the long, luscious styles – particularly evident in goddess dresses – create a floating, ethereal look. And the styles can range from somewhat casual to elegant and more formal. One of the best ways to incorporate this Grecian detailing into an outfit – without making a major trend commitment – is to utilize one of the strong suits of this style: draping. Even a draped skirt is a good place to start. You may not look quite like you could walk out of the heavens on a cloud but hey – even a goddess needs a break! These skirts tend to be somewhat high waisted and look best with a structured top that’s easily tucked in. Consider wearing it with a frilly blouse or even a fitted t-shirt. This look is much more low maintenance than an all-out Grecian-inspired ensemble, but it still easily rises to the occasion! See more on this trend and many others at TheFind.

Retro Sunnies With Throwback Appeal

It seems as though the deeper we get into the 21st century, the more we sample trends from past decades– and it is ever apparent with sunglasses (or as our Aussie folks say, “sunnies”). These days, people look like they are extras in a John Hughes films with their wayfarers or paying homage to Maverick and Goose in “Top Gun” with their aviators. There is nothing wrong with wearing retro specs– especially when today’s top designers are modernizing them to make them look chic and sleek. Tom Ford’s collection of wayfarers leans towards the modern side of cool while French Connection replicates the style with blatant throwback appeal. And although aviators are considered retro, a nice pair can go a long way in a man€™s wardrobe (the Dior aviators are a quite snazzy). If you have problems choosing what color frames to choose, the tortoise hue is the way to go. The black and brown goes with practically any outfit. That said, wrap some of these retro shades around your head.

Spindle & Canister: Getting Men’s Basics Right

As dichotomous as it may sound, the truth is that it is often the most basic of designs that are the hardest to perfect. Additionally, making sure that one’s basic garments are of a high quality is essential to building a wardrobe that is fully functional and stylish. The debut Spring/Summer ’09 collection of Spindle & Canister, created by Los Angeles based designer, Temitayo Abidoye, seeks to create classically inspired pieces that fit seamlessly and comfortably into the modern man’s wardrobe. Abidoye pays careful attention to getting the basics correct in order to create a line of investment worthy pieces. The use of quality fabrics including jersey, thermal and cashmere provide a luxurious warmth and comfort to the collection. Not only does one note the pre-shrunken fabrics, but the smaller details such as the worn buttons also help to create a more coherent look to the pieces. The slimmer, fitted profile of the garments, which flatter the wearer and also manage to provide a more modern silhouette, means that any Spindle & Canister garment would make a perfect addition to any man’s wardrobe! Decadent Springtime Goodies For A Deliciously Trendy Easter Basket

If you belong to an Easter-celebrating persuasion (or were just a non-religious lucky kid who got to cash in on all the good holidays), you may fondly remember waking up every Easter Sunday to a trail of plastic grass leading up to a basket filled with chocolate bunnies, jelly beans, Cadbury eggs, and other festive treats that can now be blamed for your current cavity problem. While memories of my annual basket hunt also conjure up feelings of embarrassing stupidity and anxiousness as my parents would sit on the couch and laugh at my inability to find my basket just within the confines of our tiny living room, the payoff of finally uncovering the bucket of bunny-themed goodies was always worth it. Sure, those days of spoiling your ham dinner by scarfing down candy all day are probably long gone by now, and it’s rare that you’d be easily lured out of bed by a handful of jelly beans like you used to (not unless you were promised a double-shot latte to wash them down with), but you’re not too old to appreciate the holiday’s sweetest indulgences, especially when they’re inspired by some of the finer things in life! From exotic chili-infused chocolate bunnies to hand-painted marshmallow eggs, Easter candy isn’t just limited to the 5-pound bags of candy-coated eggs from Walgreens! Instead of just snoozing until next Valentine’s Day, the world’s high-end chocolatiers and candy companies are always coming up with new ways to cash in on the sweets-centric holiday to fuse traditional favorites with modern flavors to produce most chic (and most yummy!) Easter treats. If you can get through it without drooling, check out the slideshow for some more couture candy finds for this Easter holiday!
