Karmaloop Welcomes Melody Ehsani’s Fresh New Shoes!

One of my favorite designers, Melody Ehsani, has just dropped her latest shoe collection, now available at Karmaloop.com. The LA based designer has a knack for designing and creating eye-catching footwear. Web-exclusive to her own site and Karmaloop.com, Ehsani’s collection offers a fantastic line of shoes, featuring bold, flashy pieces that have caught the attention of many celebrities. Ehsani has just recently collaborated with fellow designer Richie Rich on a new collection, and has also partnered up with singer Keri Hilson, producing her merchandise for her tour with Lil Wayne. The designer has a strong belief in her inner power as woman, which has allowed her to challenge the status quo and conventional norms. Through her line, she pushes other daring women to overcome barriers and shed any weight of uncertainty about themselves. The Melody Ehsani customer believes in self-expression, independence, and women loving fashion for themselves because of the way it makes them feel. The collection yields nothing short of quality high-fashion products that are stunning, comfortable and affordable. Peep the ‘Love Stinks’ heel and the ‘Javier’ heel and join Ehsani in her fight to upset the equilibrium!

Hot In The Hive: Paulette Macarons

I recently discovered the joy of macarons a little over a year ago, but these delicate European deserts date back all the way to the 18th century. The origin is arguably either French or Italian, but the most famous location for macarons is definitely Paris, France at the world renowned LaDuree on the Champs-Elysees. Creamy ganaches, chewy caramels and sweet fruit compotes are sandwiched between two delicious almond-tinted meringue-like cookies. Macarons are crisp and light as well as chewy and delicious at the same time, leaving mouths craving more. They come in familiar favorites like chocolate, strawberry, and caramel, as well as more innovative flavors such as rose anise, pistachio and black currant. As famous as LaDuree is, ordering them to your doorstep in the United States may leave them a little stale by the time they arrive. Since discovering these pretty, pastel gems that are almost too pretty to eat (almost), I have been on an avid mission to find an equally superior macaron in America that is either in my area, or will deliver quickly. There seem to be quite a few places in California that can boast on selling a more than decent macaron. Paulette Macarons in southern California and the Bay Area is a favorite and their passion for making macarons is apparent since it is the ONLY thing they sell! You can sample flavors like Columbian coffee and Violet Cassis and they can even be delivered over-night directly to your doorstep and into your mouth! Macarons are quickly becoming the next big thing in desserts and if you haven’t had one yet, you’re definitely missing out!

Price: $1.60 each, $19 for a gift box of 12, and $36 for a gift box of 24

Modern, Non-Stuffy Wing Chairs For Stylish Lounging

For some reason, wingback chairs have gotten an unfortunate reputation for being in the homes of the old and stuffy. Your grandfather may have had an imposing tufted leather wingback chair you wouldn’t dare touch. But the old and stuffy were definitely onto something with these chairs. They’re designed to be super comfortable and offer some great support in case you ever dose off. The winged nature of the chair gives a place for your head to rest when you start tilting to the side. Now you know why your grandfather loved that chair so much! These days, you don’t have to look stodgy when sitting in a wing chair. In fact, many styles these days mesh well with your modern decor. Some like the Painted Dot iChair with built-in speakers from PB Teen are downright playful! Another one of my favorites is the Lambert recliner for maximum comfort when reading or taking a quick nap. Hot Denim Trend: Distressed Skinny Jeans

It seems like denim trends change about everyday- we had the skinny jean, then the boyfriend jean, and the distressed jean. The newest and latest trend is all of these rolled up into one: the destroyed skinny jean. Balmain and Diesel showed some covetable pairs in their spring runway show, but most of us can’t drop over $2,000 dollars for denim. But not to worry, other brands have come up some equally cool versions. Whether they’re ripped, patched, or bleached, they are certainly super hot for spring 09. Black and acid splashed pairs are great for day and even night when worn tight and glammed up with some heels. Citizens of Humanity makes an ultra sexy black pair with just a few rips for a more put-together look. Cropped capri style jeans are also getting the distressed treatment. Siwy makes a great bleached out pair and American Eagle’s light washed crop are spot on for the warm summer days. Wear them a little slouchier for a more casual look that resembles more of a boyfriend jean or tighter for a sultry retro feel. Just remember- a few little rips is rocker chic, too many rips will make you look like you’re heading to a Def Leppard concert in 1984… not chic! Take a look at my slideshow for my favorite ripped skinny jeans!

SOPHOMORE Spring Is Online Now!

Faced with the prospect of a so-called heat wave making its way to San Francisco today, I was especially happy to find a refreshing message in my inbox from SOPHOMORE: their spring collection is finally online! Actually, “refreshing” doesn’t do the collection justice. Standing in front of the freezer with the door open is refreshing. The spring looks from SOPHOMORE are just plain cool. Think cutout dresses, easy fitting tanks, simple, original graphic tees, and of course, a fun spin on last fall’s zipper skirt. It’s really all about the colors for this collection- creamsicle orange and dusty blue offer an effortless, lived-in look that couldn’t be more perfect. Recession Chic: Shop Like A French Woman

At first glance, shopping like a French woman doesn’t exactly seem like the most economically sensible thing to be doing right now. But give me a chance and hear me out. These days, we’ve been shopping based on the lowest price tags and highest discounts we can find. I admit I’ve purchased things that didn’t fit or wasn’t my style just because it was 75% off. Staring into a closet full of clothes I don’t care to wear, I’ve started taking tips from the French! The first thing to do is go shopping with a plan. Much like making a grocery list before you go to the supermarket, make a list of what you need before you go to the mall. That way, you won’t get sidetracked and go home with a bunch of clothes and accessories you don’t need. Another suggestion is to figure out the cost-per-wear for what you’re buying. A $500 high quality trench coat you wear three times a week for a year makes the cost per wear to be about $3. A trench coat made of a lesser quality may cost less at the beginning, but it could mean you have to buy a new one every few months. Also consider and assess every purchase you make. A neon dress may be an of the moment trend, but may not be something you want to wear 5 years down the line. Follow these rules and you’ll be surprised at how much you can get out of a few simple pieces of clothing. Here’s my list of essential items every French woman has in her closet, and you should too! Be sure to check out the slideshow to see where you can get the goods.

1. Don’t be afraid to spend the big bucks on well-fitting suit! You can wear the whole thing together at business meetings or just wear the jacket with jeans for a semi-casual night out.
2. Ballet flats is a stylish and comfortable shoe choice for low-key days.
3. A trench coat is utilitarian, but slap on some red lipstick and suddenly you’re a film noir star!

Hot In The Hive: Edelweiss Classic Swiss Army Knife

Do you know what the motto for the Girl Scouts is? No, it’s not “delicious cookies.” The motto for the Girl Scouts (and Boy Scouts) is “be prepared.” And what better way to be prepared for whatever life throws at you than with a Swiss Army Knife? The distinctive Swiss cross on a red handle has been in the pockets of most men I know, which means I can always count on them for small emergencies. But before they get sick of me asking for the knife every minute, I know it’s time to get my own. That’s why the Edelweiss Classic Swiss Army Knife is a great fit for the girls. The traditional red may have been replaced with edelweiss blossoms, but the inside is still the same. From a small blade, a nail file, and even tweezers, the little knife sure does a lot! Backed by a lifetime warranty, this will have you humming “Edelweiss” from The Sound of Music in no time.

Price: $20

Bring Out Your Wild Side With Help From Stylehive’s Stylescopes!

In preparation for spring, we were all about the festive egg-dye pastels and quintessential floral prints, but now that the Easter bunny has come and gone, we at Stylehive are looking for fashion inspiration from some much more stylish critters. Animal print may scare off some traditionally demure girls who have always written off zebra, leopard, giraffe, and boa as patterns suited only for the tacky and fashionably loud and best left on the African Savannah, but the celestial spirits are here to prove that wild prints can be both sophisticated and sexy! For example, Virgos can look forward to brightening things up in an eye-popping orange leopard tank, while Aries girls will keep it subtle and classy in a printed party dress! Whether you’re destined to sport stripes, spots, or scales, you’re bound to look hot while walking on the wild side this week! Check out the slideshow to see what kind of animal print best suits your sign!
