Hot In The Hive: Zip-it Necklace

imageA trend that I’ve noticed with considerable staying power over the last few seasons is the exposed zipper. Found on clothes, bags, and shoes, zippers have been found everywhere from Narciso Rodriguez to Alexander Wang. So it comes to no surprise when I found jewelry that’s made of one of our most used fasteners. Inspired by people who talk too much, Australian design team Cynics created the Zip-it necklace which is made of a real zipper. Available in antique gold, antique silver or polished silver, you can adjust the length to hang freely or in a choker-like manner. The necklace definitely gives a versatile edge so you can wear this with your darkest and skinniest denim or with an feminine floral print dress. The next time someone can’t stop talking, just point and let your zipper do all the work for you.

Jet Set Travel Essential: White And Warren’s Travel Wrap

imageI love having something cozy to travel in. I always cram the most I can into the smallest amount of space. This “something cozy” must be light weight, wrinkle-free and easily rolled then shoved into my carry on. I’ve found the perfect thing: the White and Warren Travel Wrap. At first I thought it was one of those drapey, wrappy cardigans, but it’s actually a long, luscious scarf made out of comfy jersey t-shirt fabric. And it comes in just about any color you can imagine, so it helps make your travel outfit that much more fashionable. You could easily get away with wearing a black tunic and leggings, or a jeans and a white tank and throwing one of these on. The travel wrap is long and wide and can double as a travel throw, but since it’s made of t-shirt fabric it can easily fit in small spaces. Scarves are a must-have when traveling and flying, and this one is a perfect addition to your airplane wardrobe – plus it’ll be great to have when you get to your destination, too, whether it’s winter or summer! Make A Statement With Architectural Heels

imageMove over, “it” bag. For the past couple of seasons, it’s been about the “it” shoes– who could forget the crazy caged booties at YSL, or the futuristic lucite heels at Gianfranco Ferre? All over the Spring/Summer ’09 runways it was the outrageous heels that stole the show. Shoes with unique and artistic shaped heels are a great way to try out a more fashion-forward look. While you may not be ready to rock the futuristic, exaggerated shoulders of the Balenciaga and Balmain collections, you can absolutely try an out there shoe. Look for platforms, block heels, cone heels, and beyond- there was no stopping the designers’ creativity this season! Update your wedge look with a cut-out like the “Ashley” wedge from Kors by Michael Kors. For a platform look, try a circular heel instead of a traditional stacked heel, like Pour La Victoire’s “Felicia” sandal. And don’t think this look only works with large clunky shoes. Ladylike shoes get the “look at me” treatment too! Metallic heels are perfect for evening, like Oscar de la Renta’s cut away cone heels and Proenza Schouler’s silver cut-out heel sandals. Next time you’re putting together an outfit, start with a statement shoe and build from there. Check out the slideshow for some shoe inspiration.

Paul Smith To Design Exclusive Collection For Barneys New York

imageThere are stores I love, and then there are stores I wish I could love more. Oh, and by love I mean shop at. Barneys is one of those stores. Creative Director Simon Doonan has such a refreshingly lighthearted take on designer fashion that other high-end department stores seem to lack, and when the day comes that I lose all self-restraint and decide to blow my life savings on Lanvin bow pumps, I know I’ll need plenty of humor to get me through it. I can count on Barneys for that. In the meantime, I’ll have to focus my sights elsewhere, but when I heard Paul Smith was designing an exclusive collection for the retailer, I figured it deserved some attention! The collection of suiting, separates, and shirts, fittingly titled “Exclusive,” will be available in Barneys flagship stores this fall. Smith had this to say about the upcoming line: “I have been privileged to work with Barneys New York for many years and so it’s really great that I can do something that is especially for them and create an Exclusive collection where the designs are very Paul Smith.” So what can we expect? Lots of striping, check designs, and velvet. So what if it’s for the boys? You know I’ll be there to check it (and the shoe section) out anyway.

How To Have A Secret Garden-Inspired Wedding

imageWith Earth Day having been just around the corner, perhaps you’re looking for a way to make your wedding a tribute to our pretty-green planet. Perhaps, even, you’re looking for a way to get away for your wedding, but don’t have the means to make it a destination wedding in an island paradise. Make your venue a green get-away of its own — with an outdoor garden-themed wedding! The bouquets and flower arrangements will all be plucked to perfection, so now lets get those bridesmaids in bloom with a dress fit for the theme! These dresses are sweet like fresh-cut flowers and will give your maids just the touch of garden-y green to transform your outdoors into the botanical destination you’ve been pining for. Get your girls to melt right into your surroundings to make yourself standout. Not to worry, though… a touch of green with your maids won’t make them green with envy either — they’ll thank you for picking a gown that actually isn’t a nightmare of a bridesmaid’s dress!

Hot In The Hive: Stila’s Mother’s Day Gift Set

imageYour mother may insist that you’re impossible to shop for, but the truth is, picking out gifts for Mom can be even trickier. Gone are the days when you could get away with fashioning a bouquet made of pipe cleaners and tissue paper or finger-painting a floral masterpiece for your kitchen fridge display. If we’re telling it like it is, it’s not just the thought that counts, so unless you’re exceptionally crafty, an acceptable Mother’s Day gift requires a trip to the mall (or at least a considerable effort in the realm of online shopping). So how do you bridge the generation gap and choose a woman-to-woman gift that’s Mom-appropriate and something she’ll actually enjoy? Let Stila (and Sephora!) help you out! The limited edition My Mother, My Hero gift set packs Stila’s four top beauty basics (shadow, bronzer, plum lipstick, and mascara) in a chic gold-brushed clutch to create an essential set of products that are gorgeous yet subtle and basic enough to be worn by both demure and diva mamas alike. It’s the perfect combination of thoughtful, fun, yet practical for any mom that likes to feel pretty, especially on a day dedicated just to her!

Get Comfy-Chic This Summer With Linen Pants

imageNothing feels more like summer than flowy linen pants. When you get tired of wearing jeans or skirts in warmer weather, you can look stylish in the comfy new looks for pants this season. Wide-legged or straight-legged, long or gauchos, the look is a sleek body-skimming top to create the new silhouette. I’m loving the look of these Jackson Linen Wide-Leg Pants from Banana Republic. The tie front waist and large pocket are a fun decorative touch. These Soft Earth Gauchos are a shorter version for maximum coolness and comfort without skimping on style, and these Veselova Wide-Legs from Anthropologie are darker and slimming, perfect for dressing up just a bit for a casual warm night out. Check out our friends at Coquette for more summer-ready trends!
