Artisan Hand Blown Glass Rings

imageI came across a jewelry designer while I was visiting my sister in Boston that makes hand blown glass cocktail rings along with other types of jewelry. Some are transparent others are cloudy and opaque. Glass rings come in a myriad of colors. The inspiration for these rings comes from the Murano glass artisans located on the Venetian island of Murano. The ring actually looks like a stone but because it’s a piece of hand blown artisan designed glass, it’s much more affordable than other oversized cocktail rings. What I like about blown glass is that each piece is unique. Every time I wear my glass ring, someone asks me what kind of stone it is! So it’s up to you if you want to explain that it’s an interesting piece of hand-blown glass… or if you want to make up a story about some sort of rare, precious gem!

imageEvery time I see mesh clothing, the early 90’s song, “I’m too sexy for my …” starts playing in my head. However, I’ve been seeing this trend pop up everywhere from little independent boutiques to department stores and designer labels. When one pictures mesh on clothing, it is usually accompanied with leather, chains and possibly hand-cuffs! The new trend is taking over, however, and has found a way to be edgy without being over the top and totally chic and fashion forward without making the wearer feel like George Michael. From casual knit tops to sparkling dresses (and who could forget those hot YSL cage shoes??), mesh is the way to go. This summer, the L.A.-based accessories and jewelry designer introduces her new collection. Inspired by her favorite cities around the world, Tarina has created an iconic girl who represents the essence of the city and the chic women who live there. The first to launch is Los Angeles, Tarina’s favorite city in the world and the place she calls home, and they’re now available at Karmaloop.com. The L.A. City Girl grew up on the east side, shops on Melrose and hangs out in Hollywood. Taking inspiration from all over the City of Angels, this girl wears a thick sleeve of LA tattoos up along her arm. Sugar skulls from the day of the dead celebration on Olvera Street appear on new stones, while the roses from Pasadena highlight necklaces and earrings. The muted palate of grays, gold, silver, black and white from old Hollywood films all inspire the colors and Swarovski crystals used in this collection. Tarina’s collection is baroque, ornate and full of special details, reflecting her famous sparkling and colorful creations. My favorite pieces are the long multibead locket necklace in gold, the cast metal hollowpoint bullet bead necklace in gold and the metallic bead and crystal stretch bracelet.
