Necessary Luxuries: Beauty Products Worth the Bank!

imageThese days, more than ever, it’s important to be smart with your hard-earned money. Frankly, it’s rather unfashionable to go drop serious dough at Barney’s and walk out with several thousand dollars of clothing that won’t be in style next season. However, when it comes to beauty products, some investments are worth it. Of course, keeping your face, hair and nails well-coiffed never goes out of style. I’ve compiled some of my favorite pricier beauty products for your investment consideration. At the top of my list is Chanel’s Precision Gommage Microperle Eclat, which is a finely beaded exfoliating gel that leaves your face smooth and smelling like roses. What’s more, if you use just a dollop once or twice a week, the $45 tube can last you a year. As long as we’re talking Chanel, have you tried their Nail Vernis colors? I know $23 seems like a lot for nail polish, but it goes on smooth and lasts a long time, with a nice shiny finish. One of my daily favorites is Philosophy’s Hope in a Jar Moisturizer, which is an extremely lightweight, oil-free, hydrating moisturizer. Make A Statement With A Bib Necklace For Spring!

But times have changed and this spring, the fashion world has taken on a decidedly grown-up accessory trend: the bib necklace. The statement necklace has gotten a little bit bolder and was a key piece of jewelry in this season’s shows, showing up at Vera Wang, Chanel, Marni and Burberry. From itty bitty bibs to full-blown breastplates, there are tons to choose from. Pick a worldly looking beaded collar like Erickson Beamon’s “Ring of Stars” choker for a well-traveled ethnic look. For vintage lovers there is the “Big Clermont” necklace by Thea Grant that resembles old jeweled broaches, and if you’re on a budget try the “Spring Flora” necklace from Forever 21. Looking for something less 1901 and more like 2021? For a futuristic feel, pick large candy colored plastic beads like Malene Berger’s multicolor necklace or a geometric breastplate from Missoni. Crunching Away Those Swimsuit Shopping Blues…

imageUgh. Swimsuit shopping. It’s pretty much the only shopping I don’t love. Tell me, is there anyone who actually enjoys the process? From deciding on a style to rationalizing a price for something I most likely won’t be wearing all year round, there is certainly no shortage of reasons why. And on top of all of that, there’s the swimsuit color issue- allow me to explain. Black makes you look slimmer. Black also makes you look pale in comparison, literally. Looking pale makes you look less toned. Bottom line: a black swimsuit/security blanket will make me look flabby. Is this over yet?

Oh- and it gets better. In spite of what you may think, swimsuit shopping can actually make a person quite ravenous, what with all of the writhing and wriggling that certain suits require. It’s the perfect time for a guiltless snack, because we all know where self-pity can lead, and it’s not pretty! So I’m forever indebted to 100 Calorie Packs, because after a long day of trying to find the suit I hate the least, I want crunchy and salty, I want it now, and I want no hangover-like guilt. Hot In The Hive: Swarovski-Crusted XBox Microphone Set By Crystal Roc

imageA little bling never hurt… unless of course you decide to spend a whole month’s rent on that little extra dazzle. Apparently Crystal Roc, known for their Swarovski bling-embellished musical equipment and the most gloriously bedazzled sets of headphones I’ve ever laid eyes on, is now targeting the fashionable video gamers/musician wannabes in addition to their professional singing clientele (including the likes of Rihanna, Jennifer Lopez, and Leona Lewis). Made for the popular XBox singing game Lips, and also compatible with select versions of Guitar Hero and Rock Band, this limited edition studded mic set is due out later this year and destined to have gaming gals channeling their inner pop diva. But based on the size of its rumored price tag, I’m thinking that maybe those rare 100 sets reported to be in circulation are best saved for those who already have a comparable income to spend on such lavish geeky luxuries. After all, you can’t exactly moonlight as an open mic XBox singer to help pay for them (but maybe some day).
