He started his voyage with 280 men and five ships on September 1519 and arrived back in port almost three years later with only one ship and 18 crew members remaining. But does anyone know the name of the first woman to circumnavigate the globe? That distinction belongs to Krystyna Chojnowska-Liskiewicz, who completed her journey in 1976 in only 401 days. Oh, and she did it solo! Of course, not all of us have the drive for adventure and the bravery required for such daring-do. But if you don’t see a personal yacht in your future, don’t despair. Hot In The Hive: The Sony W Series Walkman

imageOne would think that being both a jogger and a musicophile is a personality combo made in athlete’s heaven, given all the Apple-Nike collabos and music-friendly running accessories, not to mention all the sweet hour-long cardio remixes I’ve stumbled across on Pandora. But running with your music device is easier said than done, unfortunately, especially if you’re jogging out in the fresh air without a treadmill’s shelf to perch your player upon. In an effort to keep my hands free, I’ve even tucked my iPod under the band of my sports bra… which kept it secure, but soaked in sweat by the time my run was over (sorry, TMI). Sure, you could always buy an armband holster specifically for your mp3 gadget, but I’m still always getting my headphone wires snagged and yanked out by bushes and mailboxes I’ve narrowly had to bypass. Is it just me, or should combining these hobbies be much less complicated?! With the Sony W Series Walkman, it finally is! The 2-gig gizmo combines the music player and the earpieces into a one-part device, so it’s literally just a pair of headphones — no wires to get tangled in or contraption to tuck anywhere but your ears! Dolce & Gabbana Launch Luxury Cosmetics Line

image Dolce & Gabbana, one of the world’s top luxury brands, has launched its much-anticipated cosmetics line for early next month. By adding this line, the company will now be a full-fledged beauty house and will be competing with other high-end make-up lines. Dolce & Gabbana already has a very successful fragrance line, so a cosmetics line was a natural next step. Stefano Gabbana stated, while being interviewed by WWD in his elaborately richly decorated drawing room of his office, that he and Domenico Dolce have wanted to do make-up for years now. It’s a new direction unlike fragrance. The inspiration for the make-up is derived from the collections. “We see make-up as another thing for women, like a dress. We worked on the line like we worked on a clothing collection- you can change make-up like you change your clothes, depending on your mood,” Gabbana added. The sources for inspiration are very familiar to Dolce & Gabbana and the colors are very rich and bold…

Hot In The Hive: Cat Cosmetics Smolder Eye Pencil

imageWhen it comes to testing out new beauty products, I’m my own guinea pig. I’ll try anything once, which is most likely the most logical explanation for all of my busted-at-the-seams makeup bags, overflowing with a whole slew of rainbow shades I’ve hardly given a second look at. This compulsion towards all things cosmetic is also the reason why I almost tripped over myself in excitement at the chance to try Cat Cosmetics Smolder Eye Pencil, a double-ended 2-in-1 shadow/liner duo designed for achieving dramatic bedroom eyes on the go. After all, if I were to favor any kind of makeup over the rest, anything that can be described as both “smokey” and “2-in-1” would certainly top the list. The verdict? Despite the helpful application suggestions that come with it, the cream-based bronze shadow end is a little tough to blend for maximum “smolder” effect, but because of its no-budge formula, the product makes an awesome smudge-free liner duo!
